  1. I would be shocked if Abreu was not a Yankee next season.
  2. But Theriot's a little white guy that gets dirty, has grit, plays the right way, and all those other cliches that people use to help explain their inexplicable preferences. Theriot is kind of like "Rudy", you really like his heart and that fact that he has made it this far but when you look up and down he is the weakest link. Cedeno should win the job over him in ST, but he has choked up the few small chances he has had.
  3. Not yet. ARod has until 10 days after the World Series ends to opt out. I would imagine Boras is trying to see how much he can squeeze out of Steinbrenner and the Yankees before that date. It appears that Steinbrenner's sons are taking over daily operations. I wonder what their take on the Arod and Torre is?
  4. ♠ I'm a little surprised that South Florida is so close to O$U. #14 and #15 is great :-)
  5. Pitchers are going to have to spend more time practicing fielding bunts before games.
  6. Why would the Twins be taking on salary with Santana unsigned, and why in the world would they trade Garza with Santana unsigned? Makes no sense.
  7. Stupid parity, I hate it.....nobody wants to see South Florida in the national championship game. It's bad for college football due to lack or ratings for BCS games. I do, plus I want to see the BCS shot to hell. South Florida in the NC would be great. I could really careless about what ratings the game gets because USC, ND, and others are not in a BCS game.
  8. If you have Homer Bailey in a keeper league, you might as well trade him now.
  9. This is the greatest college football season ever. BC will lose a game I am pretty sure, as will O$U. I seriously have no clue. Still can't even predict what will come of the national championship, and I won't be surprised to see a couple of 1 loss teams ahead of South Florida when the polls come out this week.
  10. I read that earlier today. Is that your opinion, or is that from Hendry's mouth? Because it reads like you're speculating that they wont pick it up. It's based on very good sourcing with the Cubs. I talk to them every day. Can you go backhand Ken Rosenthal for us?
  11. I think the first 2-3 FA signings could really dictate what direction this market goes, should it be slightly higher or lower than last years.
  12. I see him getting something more along the lines of what Mathews Jr. got.
  13. Sure but all sports have bad divisions that boost the record of other teams. Heck the main three have bad CONFERENCES...the NFC, NL, and Eastern Conference are all bad, and so the "good" teams in those conferences have a natural advantage. My problem is more that there isn't an even schedule for teams in the same division. Part of that is a function of interleague. Part of it is a 6 team division. In any case, it's a pet peeve that I'd like to see fixed. I'd like to see a 28 team division and the Yanks and Red Sox in the other. We would all get bumped to ESPN Ocho just to get any hightlights or coverage.
  14. I keep reading it waiting to figure out what the joke is, but I don't get it.
  15. Kaka with Arsenal would be insane. They are so loaded on young talent right now, and Kaka's pace and flow would fit right in with them as well. That would be seriously illegal. And Henry would feel dumb for leaving, like, the best team conceivable. Good thing Arsenal can't afford him. Not only that, but they'd be crazy to sign him even if they could. Don't f with what they have going already. If they need to add somebody to go over the top, they don't have to make it the most expensive man ever. They could just give Kaka some real estate here, of course that doesn't include the transfer fee. This place would be very damn sweet, too bad I dont have 325,000 pounds sitting in the bank. http://www.thestadium-highbury.com/stadium_main.htm
  16. man I feel sorry for Homer Bailey, Joey Votto, and Jay Bruce.
  17. Mike and Mike interview In other words: "It's too early to know what his chances are, some owners may be opposed to him, others have called to support him, he's had a positive net effect on the NBA and hopes baseball realizes it." And a bunch of stuff about dancing, a little about the NBA. If he has some supporters, that would be great right now. I think once he makes his sales pitch he will he will gain more support. The man is a great business man and will make MLB more profitable.
  18. Kaka with Arsenal would be insane. They are so loaded on young talent right now, and Kaka's pace and flow would fit right in with them as well.
  19. I dont see the Twins trading Nathan to the Yankees unless Joba is involved. Considering they gave up AJ Pierblowme for him, Liriano, and Bonser. If they could get a great prospect for Nathan now that would be one of the greatest trade turnarounds ever.
  20. You save 21M by trading for him and just extending him because TX would still be on the hook. 1. I thought texas only paid for the first few years and that this was the last year of the payment. 2. You would have to pay dearly to stop Arod from testing the market. I know that the cubs save 21 million (unless point 1 is right), but is the money really saved when you view rest of the market? Aram has a good contract (relatively), and the market is in one of the high end upswings right now. I think financially, in the long run for most GM's, it makes more sense to just wait, pay the extra few million and keep your star players. Especially if they are young stars who could offset the cost of Arod initially. EDIT: Just looked it up...Point 1 is wrong. Texas is still paying for him. The thing about stopping ARod from testing the market is that if you have that TX money you can essentially (by way of extention) outbid anyone he'd sign for as a FA by 21M and still end up paying the same as any of those teams who would sign him as a FA would pay because 21M of that would be coming from Texas. If the yankees know that they won't retain him then they should try to trade him for anything. Anything is better than ARod walking away and getting nothing in return. Although, the Yanks can and will offer him arbi if he voids the contract, so you'd have to give them the equivalent of a back of the first round + sandwich pick talent. I'd love to trade Samardzjia + Veal/Petrick/Gallagher/someone else for ARod and sign him to an extention. Although, I'm guessing we would have to be in a bidding war with the Angels on this one, which we'll lose (however, the Yanks might want to move him to the NL). After 2010, his salary will increase significantly, but thats the time that we lose some of our current contracts. Take advantage of the Texas money if at all possible. He must opt out within 10 days of the end of the World Series, I don't think the Yankees can trade him before that.
  21. I was thinking going forward with: -----------------------Jozy------------Rossi---------------------- -------------------------------Deuce------------------------------ ---------Beasley-------------------------------Donovan--------- -------------------------Bradley/Feilhaber------------------------ ---Pearce/Bornstein--DeMerit/Onyewu--Boca--Cherundolo--- ------------------------------Howard------------------------------- I know people hate Bornstein, but go ask Lionel Messi if he is any good. Then the question of where does Freddy play if he blossoms? We have a lot of attacking mids. If Freddy blossoms, he'll probably be better than our 3 attacking mids are, so he can replace whichever. However, if he does blossom, it's a good problem to have. It would be nice to have a surplus of attacking, world class players. A surplus never seen before. Given the way the USSF butchered the Klinsman negotiations they need to make this up somehow. Not to mention I think we would have a better chance of getting Rossi if Klinsman was the manager.
  22. The first thing you will need is a sex tape of new GM Bill Smith. The 2nd thing you will need is an 8 year/$200 million dollar contract extension.
  23. I would love to be worth $100,000 just to go away. Maybe the O's will want him back for Tejada
  24. The Torre Domino Effect: How many players will leave just because Torre is gone should it happen? Despite having the money available the Yankees won't have a prime FA market to reload like they have in the past.
