  1. Espn bottom line said Marlins wanted extra cash on top of Manny's salary being eaten.
  2. Penn State is in a much worse position than the Packers. It will be sad to see it happen, but it almost should happen. It's about 99% likely that Penn State screws the pooch on the whole thing. They'll either keep him around forever, they'll fire him (PR nightmare), or, if they get him to leave amicably, will just make an internal promotion for new head coach instead of making a splash They need some type of under the table buyout keeping him with the university afterwards where he agrees its time to step down. Yeah its really a no win situation for Penn State at all.
  3. I don't know if Max will stick as a catcher either. Either way I have seen him play about 10 times this season and he can freaking rake and with some serious power too.

  5. http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=224434&src=152 Hmmm, Stern is very much a traditionalist and would fit well in perceived "good ole boys" clubs. Seems like his recommendation would have quite a bit of impact for anyone riding the fence on Cuban. Stern knows Cuban has been good for the NBA, referee criticisms aside. Cuban took over the Mavericks and not only made them a contender, but also made them one of the most popular franchises in the NBA. Cuban may have been a disciplinary headache, but he's been one of the best things to happen to the NBA in the past few years. Very true. I'm pleased, but not surprised, that he got Stern's endorsement. I showed the link a while back but when Cuban took over the Mavericks they were the 27th most valuable franchise, and he took them all the way to #3. Bottom line this is one of the most single important aspects a commish would care about. Not to mention Cuban might have been right a long time ago with all the ref criticisms he had and the whole mess the NBA is now going through.
  6. That kind of suprised me as well. I think all the GM's are equally suprised he is good again. Unlike the Farnsworth good every other year, Huff seems to be good every 3 years.
  7. Words really can't express my hatred towards mexican soccer and their players and their fans. There are some that are ok, but because they are almost considered to be a part of South American culture they almost seem to get away with it. If something like this happened in England FIFA would jump all over it. Down in Mexico, its become way to accepted. Mexican Hooligans >>>> English Hooligans.
  8. Looks like just one man's opinion though. He doesn't cite any polls. I'm surprised to see Tennessee that high (10th) and Alabama that low (8th). I would have put Bama ahead of, at least, Oklahoma, Miami and Texas. Possibly as high as fourth (kicking Florida down a peg or two). And I respect the heck out of Bear Bryant. Bama? Hated? I don't see it. They're been absolutely irrelevant to most of the country for a long time now. If I had to guess the teams on this list, they probably wouldn't have been in my first 15 guesses. Miami should be higher..they've been hated by a lot of people for a long time now. Florida State should be on that list. I've still noticed a lot of hatred for Nebraska even though they haven't been on the map for awhile. I still stand by Bama. Maybe I had them a bit high (my Tennessee bias showing I suppose), but when the entire South hates you, you're hated by a whole lot of college football fans. Bama's recent record (past 10 years) certainly drops them. In rivalry games they are certainly hated by a couple of schools almost more than anyone, but outside of that and the SEC I don't think many people really pay attention to them.
  9. I would because it would allow us out from Soriano's contract and Manny will be a FA at the end of the year. We'd have our bat for the stretch and then sign Dunn in the offseason. :D Topping the worst OF defensively of Manny and Soriano....adding Dunn! Imagine that of, yikes! I wonder what type of money Dunn is going to get. Well, under my scenario Dunn would play LF, Fukudome in RF, and a yet to be determined player in CF. I know vance but the thought of it made me want to buy season tickets just for the entertainment value in the OF alone! Imagine how fun it would be to watch Dunn launch balls out of Wrigley that might land on the roof tops across the street. It would be nice. So you'd basically trade Dunn for Soriano? yes, because I think you could get Dunn for less dollars and less years than we committed to Soriano. I think while they are different types of hitters, they bring basically the same value as a hitter. Really? I think Dunn brings much more value as a hitter. Not sure how much is offset by the defense, but I don't think it's enough. And Soriano seems to be breaking down quickly. Manny is a career .312 hitter. He is a .320 hitter with runners in scoring position and scoring position with 2 outs. Dunn in no way bring much more value as a hitter. Dunn's best season isn't even as good as Manny's career avg's.
  10. Why are you trying to take that title away from Ryan Braun? :-)
  11. Salty? Don't you mean Teixeira? Last years trade. Though the braves gave up a lot more than just Salty.
  12. Did he really do a curtain call on a game tying HR in the 6th inning? what? i was outside during that moment, if true, thank god i wasn't watching Wait. A guy isn't allowed to do a curtain call on game tying HR in the 6th inning? I don't recall that happening, but considering the roll he's been on, I could easily see Cubs fans calling for a similar player to do a curtain call. I am mostly talking about him having the slowest walk to 1st base in baseball after his 3 second pose. The one against the Cards was worse than against the Cubs. If he does that against Zambrano he will take notice. And if that happens, we can expect Soriano to get one in the ribs and then a nice baseball brawl. Soto will single handedly take down the entire Brewers team ;-).
  13. I am of the opinion that no middle relievers are worth 3-year contracts. Howry was good the past two years, but the contract was no doubt ill-advised. It appears that Jim is becoming more and more attached to cheaper bullpen labor, so hopefully he avoids these silly deals in the future. At the moment he was signed it was very much needed.

  15. I can't wait till Brawn gets drilled by someone this year. Will tonight be the night? I won't be suprised if the Cards do it.
  16. Compared to how he is pitching now. It's the same as selling low with no replacement in sight. Should his role change, without question yes.
  17. There is no reason to drop Howry. I would not pitch him in a tie game in the 8th or with a 1 run lead though. If he rights the ship he will be huge in October. If not so what, we are not going to replace his potential. Calling him trash is uncalled for.
  18. lots of players are available, most everyone.
  19. If only anything in this post was actually true. (Automatic bid in 2005. West Virginia and their non-con of Marshall, E. Washington, E. Carolina and Miss. State were the only other eligible team in 2006. I should sig this.) I know it's not completly true but with my Michigan ties I like to knock ND :-).
