    I totally agree with this. I hope Lou uses Johnson/Fuld in CF, and Fukudome/Bradley in RF. The latter would be pretty expensive for a platoon - but wins are the name of the game.

    Fire sale? Who are you going to get rid of? Soriano? Lee? Zambrano? I think it might help if Piniella would just start playing guys who produce, regardless of how much they are making. *OUTFIELD: Bench Soriano, Bradley, and if the slide continues - Fukudome. Reed Johnson in CF. Fox and Hoffpauir should also be in the lineup, if you ask me. *INFIELD: Move Theriot to 2B. Blanco starts at SS - because his glove is better, not because anything Theriot did/didn't do. We are a better team with Blanco on short. Call up Scales and let him play some 3B with Fontenot and Fox. Creating the competition will light a fire under someone's ass. Soto is platooning until the best defensive catcher stands up. It's obvious that the Cubs aren't going to get offense from that position this year. They aren't getting offense from any position in the order, but you get my drift. Pray that the rest of the NL Central keeps letting the Cubs hang around despite mediocre play. Hope for a hot surge during the stretch drive and into the playoffs. This is not a playoff team.

    Look, Z acted like an ass - but this is the second time in a week or two that I have seen an umpire contact a player. Players get HEAVY penalties for coming in contact with umps, and I think the line has to be drawn now. Not that the players are going to get hurt - but there is no justice in players getting increased penalties for the bill of their hat contacting an umpire when the ump can basically do the same or worse with no consequence. I don't think that Z should be the example in this situation. Sure, he deserves to miss a start, but I'm sorry - the ump contacted the player FIRST in this situation, which may or may not have caused his flippant reaction. I think it was animated and over the top, yet entertaining. Why was he tossed? For the contact or the questioning of the call. I think it is important to distinguish, because if Zambrano was tossed for the contact than I think it should be thrown out and he shouldn't be suspended at all.

    The stolen bases I saw last night in the game were on Lilly. There was no way that Soto had a chance to throw the runners out.

    I'm with the Voice of Reason on this one. To say that MLB was not negatively impacted by PED's is admitting that your head is buried in the sand.

    The guys on XM radio this afternoon (can't remember which show - think it was Kennedy) absolutely slaughtered Juan Pierre's defensive ability. Was talking about how it didn't take long for L.A. to realize that JP was killing them in the OF with his arm. I chuckled.

    Amen, NY. How is Bud Selig avoiding the heat? Do people REALLY think he had no idea what was going on, or that he wanted it to stop? In my opinion, the "Commish" and the Owners are more to blame than these players. The Players Union as well. It's a big money-making shame. I have read both of Canseco's books, and even though he is a "slimeball" according to everyone, I don't blame him for writing the book. He was blackballed by MLB, and was not protected by the "Players Union" and was sold out by all of his colleagues. Of course, the players who used/use PED have to answer for themselves and "pay the piper" eventually - but everything Canseco said in his books is proving to be true, and even though he may be "the Godfather" of steroid use in MLB - all of the players who pumped themselves full of chemicals to solidify their security in MLB and warrant the huge contracts are even more dispicable for acting as if they were clean and selling their soul to PED's. Makes me sick, and destroys the record books.

    I'm not buying the "Lou's doghouse" bit, as if Lou is going to treat Fukudome poorly or something. The guy has talent, and I'll bet he is going to be just fine. Let him get used to MLB, and hopefully shake some of the pressure off. Let him be free of some press, and I'll bet he is a different player.

    Maybe he doesn't want to sign with the Dodgers? I don't understand - take the one year deal and another hack at free agency next year. I guess he wants a long term deal, but we all know clubs are hesitant to do that with the stuff he pulled in Boston the last 4 years he had there. Will be interesting to see how this shakes out....

    Fontenot is going to hit 20 dongs. Fukudome is going to hit .280 and be productive.

    Someone will give him a 2 or 3 year contract. Not for $25 per, but someone will.

    About the Blanco=Bakos thing.... Blanco didn't exactly swing a rubber bat. I think the offensive highlight that Bakos brings to mind when he was a Cub was one time he splintered his bat and the barrel end stuck in the ground like a javelin. That was cool.

    So let me get this straight - the Orioles end up with Pie and Hill, and we are not getting Brian Roberts? Sweet, tap-dancing Julio. What a terrible off season. So much for "winning now." There has to be some kind of catch. There is no way that a ML GM is this big of an idiot.
