  1. I think most of those wrasslers bit it because of addictions to pain killers, coke, and extremely skank women.
  2. 22 runs in 2 games? Yeah, you better shake things up Johnny Baker. At least wait until Tom Walker slumps to sit his hot bat.
  3. I'm sitting here trying to figure out if there was ever a Cub HR that I have witnessed that was more exciting than this Kerry Wood HR. That was straight electrifying.
  4. ok. his team had a 100 mil+ payroll and finished in fourth place and with a losing record. enough said Let's not forget all the injuries that cost the Cubs star players. There is not a doubt in my mind that if Dusty Baker had a healthy squad, we may have at least one ring to brag about in the past 2 years. Not to sound too apologetic on Baker's part. You can't disregard the injuries to the pitching staff, Nomar, and others. And I don't think anyone (including Baker) want a championship more than the true Cub fans do. NOBODY.
  5. I do not equate Soriano with Curt Flood for standing up to the demand that he change positions. The clear, bottom line is that baseball is a team game, and Soriano obviously sees it in another light. He doesn't want to be on that team or fit into it. It's obvious. So give him $10 million.
  6. Todd Walker is not the best defensive 2nd Baseman, but I think he gets a really unfair rap. Take this comparison from his last full year, 2002. The next year, Luis Castillo won the Gold Glove at 2B in the NL. Castillo is considered one of the best defensive 2nd Basemen in the game. Numbers don't tell the whole story, but they do tell some of it. L. C. 2003: 152 games, 286 putouts, 433 assists, 10 E, 99 DP, .986 F% T. W. 2002: 154 games, 315 putouts, 438 assists, 8 E, 93 DP, .989 F% The knock on Walker is his range and inability to turn the DP, but as those statistics show, Walker obviously got to as many balls (or more) and turned double plays at the same frequency as Castillo. The next year for Walker was not quite so good defensively. He played in less games (139) and commit double the errors (16). Red Sox management claimed that no team had more hits that got through the right side than they did (an obvious knock on Walker), but I think it is kinda obvious that it is a concentration/work issue more than it is a "inability to field" issue. To me, the 02 stats on Walker show that he can clearly play defensively. The question is why not every year?
  7. Novoa has already lost 15 pounds? Do they bottle that stuff? I could use a little.
  8. Personally, I like the WBC. I think it means a lot, and it is better baseball than the Olympics ever provided. I really enjoyed it, and the competition was excellent. It could be the best thing Bud Selig has ever done. God knows he needed something good on his report card.
  9. I have always heard that Japanese baseball was equal to AA or AAA level baseball here in the states. After watching a few games of the World Baseball Classic, and now that our All-Star caliber US team has been eliminated, a few things have been made clear to me: * All the talent in the world will get you nothing if you can't play the game right. Bunting, hit-and-run, stealing bases, solid pitching, and playing balls-to-wall defense are STILL what win baseball games. * We can no longer accept this prima-donna BS from today's Major Leaguers that they are the best talent in the world. Even though it is probably true, you still have to play like the best to be the best. * Never underestimate your opponant. Thoughts?
  10. The only reason that I think Walker is being doubted is because of the condition of his knee. I have heard rumors, and I am wondering if there is more to his injury than is being presented through the media. You have to remember, a patients medical records are private and the new HIPAA act prohibits outside sources from knowledge unless patients allow it. Walker may not want his employer, the Cubs, to disclose anything that is not obvious. There is no question that Todd Walker is the best overall 2nd Baseman of the three. None whatsoever.
  11. Hey Vance, I am about 1 1/2 hours west on I-20 from you - and my daughter Jordan Grace has some cool Cub stuff that I got off Ebay. I have found that on Ebay, you can get the best deals on Cub stuff. Stores really take advantage of the cost of licensing I think...
  12. What's next - chin straps and freaking heart guards? Those new "snakeskin" looking, multi-colored sleeves are really irritating too.
  13. Didn't most of those wrestlers die because of pain killer abuse? We should all probably curb the Watsons.
  14. May Kirby Puckett's memory be eternal.
  15. I think a good baseball team maintains a balance of strong starting pitching, strong defense, and hitters who can execute and move runners. There is a "Luck Factor" that always plays a part, but when you do things right, the luck happens naturally. A team can't hope for luck, or rely on it - it just happens when you do the little things and play the game right. All three of these aspects work in each others favor: strong defense improves the pitching; putting up runs places the pitchers/fielders in the right position to defend the lead. The name of the game is scoring runs, and holding leads. I think the 2006 Cubs, on paper, have all the tools to do the job. The defense is improved, the bullpen is improved, and the offense has been redefined. The pitching is still in question, but in better shape than more than half of the other NL teams. Anything is possible with the 2006 Cubs, but I think it all depends on the offenses ability to execute the little things to put the runs up, and the obvious health of the starting pitchers.
  16. The season is the season. Spring training can be misleading. Not to sound pessimistic, but Nomar was lights out last Spring....
  17. I heard the critical report also. Bleeding in the brain. This is not good, folks. Prayers going up for Kirby.
  18. Anyone with the internets can listen.... http://www.espnradio1000.com/
  19. I hope you are proud of yourself.
  20. Yeah, just what we need - our new leadoff hitter on the shelf with 3 broken fingers.
  21. Being a LSU fan, I got to see Theriot play. One of the good characteristics of his game has been his ability to have good AB's and draw the walk. He doesn't have power, but he is quick, and scores runs. He had some good AB's last year. Not sure if he will be an everyday player at the ML level, but I'd love to see it because he is the type of hitter that the Cubs need: good BB/K ratio, quick, and scores runs. He has done it at every level, to some extent. And let's not forget Mike Fontenot. He has good pop for a guy his size. Personally, I think he may have a better chance than Theriot - but I never thought Ryan would be anything more than an A or AA player at the top of his game. I am glad he proved me wrong.
  22. "Hey Pee-dro, Jobu needs a refill." CLANK!
  23. Not that it is very important - but I hate the Navy blue warm up duds.
  24. Manny or Aramis? I don't think they have Aramis yet - could be wrong.
