  1. I'm really not trying to make excuses for him, or make it seem like I have sympathy for idiots who decide to drink and drive.
  2. Yeah, it's hard to have sympathy for people when they endanger lives with poor decisions - but there are thousands of ways to do that. We all obviously have very strong feelings about this - but with respect for Hancock, we should stop passing judgement as we all have our faults.
  3. The important thing to remember is that Josh Hancock is dead. For a reason. I don't think drinking and smoking makes you a bad person, but you have to realize that it is stupid to do those things, and even more stupid to operate a vehicle while under the influence. Everyone knows that. But Josh Hancock wasn't a hellbound loser. He just got pinched playing with fire. Many of us do it all the time, and because we have gotten away with it we think it will never happen to us. You have to be careful out there. Hancock is gone because he wasn't. EVERYONE has their skeletons in their closet. BTW, I don't know if it is linked anywhere on this site - but here is the surveillence of the accident....
  4. I wouldn't change a thing. Soriano is starting to hit, and with Theriot seeming to stick in the #2 spot - DLee is going to have plenty of RBI opportunities. Not to mention there is a pretty good chance he is going to be setting Ramirez and the 5 and 6 hitters with a guy in scoring position the way he is racking up doubles. Leave them as they are, with Floyd in RF and hitting 5th. Soriano Theriot Lee Ramirez Floyd Barrett Pie DeRosa
  5. It's all part of my schtick. Grown men should be responsible.
  6. Guys - I was ABSOLUTELY being sarcastic about that. I was also being serious about MLB getting these guys chaperons. Driving after drinking is in excusable. Can you imagine how we would be viewing this if Hancock were still alive, but another person was killed? Driving under the influence is an inexcusable action. I still hate that this happened to Josh Hancock.
  7. I think it is time for MLB to step up. All the money that MLB clubs are generating warrant for each club to create 10-15 modest paying jobs in which hired people would transport MLB players, coaches, etc. out for entertainment. You can't expect a guy between the age of 21 and 40 to be responsible enough to call a cab - or....wait for it.... a limo when he has been drinking. Hire a fleet of drivers to take the guys out when they want to have some fun - or better yet, these guys make more with the league minimum than many lawyers and doctors - hire your own guy. You just can't expect professional athletes to control themselves. It is the best thing to do for safety and public image. It sucks what happened to Josh Hancock. It doesn't make him a bad guy, just a stupid guy. His character shouldn't be assasinated, he obviously (and allegedly) made a stupid mistake.
  8. Well, that is terrible. Ack, I'm going to just wait for test reports before going down this road. Let me clarify: I think it is terrible that such sensitive information was the dig of that statement. I am with you - mourn now, speculate later (if ever).
  9. My cousin went to college at NEMO State, and said he frequented that road very often - and that it is pretty tough with concrete dividers or something like that. I am sure someone here might be able to confirm that. Alcohol or not, it is a tragic loss, and people get killed in sober auto accidents all the time. Lost one of my best friends in a single car accident. The kid was 18 at the time, just finished his first year in the Texas Rangers organization, and had a golden arm (touched 99 on the gun, reportedly). It took me a long time to accept that he was driving after a night of drinking - but ultimately that just doesn't matter. A guy died. My prayers to his family, fans, and teammates. Always a terrible loss when a person passes in this manner.
  10. That was hilarious. I was watching it live on Fox and LaRussa first rejected questions from Post Dispatch writers. When Chunks continued with a question later in the interview, Tony asked him when he changed jobs and reminded him that he was NOT answering PD questions in protest to them taking a "cheap shot" at the Cubs in the article. I thought it was kinda classy, but also a little extreme. I am guessing that LaRussa did it for several reasons, including the fact that he wasn't happy that it may have fired the Cubs up. Either way, it was high comedy when this big fatty stood up in LaRussa's face.
  11. Izturis does have value for this team, just not on an every day basis.
  12. Imma go run with a tire tied to my waist so I can get faster now.
  13. He handles balls real well. Very, very unfortunate wording.
  14. OK with me except I'd switch around Soriano and Rammy. Exactly. Or.... SS Theriot 2B DeRosa 1B Lee 3B Ramirez RF Floyd LF Soriano CA Barrett CF Pie
  15. Theriot has been around 90 on the gun before - that's a pretty strong arm at any level of baseball. And to say Theriot is 5'11 is VERY generous. Unless he has become taller in the past 4 years.
  16. Theriot has a better arm. He was a hell of a SS at LSU, and wasn't too bad in the system. Worth a shot.
  17. The ultimate composit wood bat is the Baum bat. It is pretty much unbreakable, though it can happen. They hit, sound, and feel just like wood.
  18. Logjam in the OF? Move Soriano back to 2nd base, Theriot to SS, and there you go. SS Theriot LF Murton 1B Lee 3B Ramirez 2B Soriano RF Floyd CA Barrett CF Pie
  19. I don't think the fact that Theriot hasn't been given a shot at SS says anything other than the Cubs are content with Izturis overall. Cesar is going to make good plays - but you have to ask yourself if the team would be better overall with Theriot at SS. Who knows? I'd like to find out, though. Personally, I think this team has been flat at the top of the order with Soriano leading off and Theriot, Jones, and Murton bouncing around in the 2 spot. I think it is proven so far that the production is better with Theriot batting 2nd - so why change that? We have seen Soriano hitting with 0-2, 1-2 counts in the leadoff spot all year. He isn't swinging the bat yet. I think it is time to recognize that Soriano is not going to be on base very often, and that means we can't expect many RBI opportunities for our very solid 3 & 4 hitters. Stop screwing around and put guys in the 1 & 2 holes who understand plate discipline and how to situationally hit. Soriano belongs in a run producing role, like #5 in the order. SS Theriot RF Murton 1B Lee 3B Ramirez LF Floyd 2B Soriano CA Barrett CF Pie or CF Pie SS Theriot 1B Lee 3B Ramirez LF Floyd 2B Soriano CA Barrett RF Murton
  20. Something has to give. Theriot and Pie are going to make the Cubs a better team. I would like to see how it would work with Theriot at SS. I do like Floyd's bat as I think it will juice up the lineup with a MUCH needed power stick from the left side. I am not opposed to moving Soriano back to 2B to keep our outfield kinda the way it is. CF Pie SS Theriot 1B Lee 3B Ramirez LF Floyd/Murton 2B Soriano RF Jones/DeRosa CA Barrett That's a freaking winning lineup, my friends.
  21. Happy Birthday, Bruce - great having you around.
  22. IT IS TIME for Theriot to get a little time at SS. AND at the top of the order. Soriano is not hitting. YET. Let's hope that Soriano gets moved down into the meat of the order (5th) where he will probably be more effective. SS Theriot RF Jones 1B Lee 3B Ramirez LF Floyd CF Soriano CA Barrett 2B DeRosa
  23. I kinda like the Hedgehogs pornstache. It seems to work for Jeff Kent too - he's had a fruitful career.
