  1. Was he horrible, or could he have been better? I don't think he was horrible when you look at the complete year, I think he was horrible in a few stretches. Defensively, Theriot is rarely going to make hightlight plays, but he is going to make the plays he should be making. His range could be better, but he isn't a liability defensively. He's a smart player, who maximizes his abilities. Offensively, he was very streaky in 2007. It was also his first full season in MLB. His OB% was below par, but I will not be surprised to see a better year out of him. Scoring 80 runs is a respectable number in MLB, even for a first year guy on a playoff team. I don't understand all the hate. He was horrible. The Cubs had the worst SS production in the NL last year and he was largely responsible. Yet, the Cubs were VASTLY improved at SS in 2007 from 2006 - and they made the playoffs. There is a very good chance he'll be better in 08 than he was in 07.

  3. I am also not a pessimist when it comes to Theriot. If he starts stinking, I'm sure Piniella will replace him or give him a break, like he did last year. Theriot had a couple of horrible months, but I think/hope he can keep his OB% around .340/.350. I think he is going to score plenty of runs and be a contributor.
  4. That was a gude.
  5. I have $100 on the comeback of Enrique Wilson. Book. It. Dude.
  6. I am pretty sure it is $179 or add supefan for another $50 Yeah, the "Early Bird" rate is ONLY 4 installments of $44 and change. They keep jacking it up each season. Wonder how they justify the big increase this year?
  7. What about that MLB channel that DirecTV is supposed to be putting together? When is that supposed to happen?
  8. ...I thought it was just the opposite. Inhale nice and deeply, and tell me if you can smell the sarcasm.
  9. Believe it or not, playing the OF in Arizona with the high skies is pretty difficult for everyone - from what I hear. Yeah, Felix Pie sucks at defense.
  10. I have a couple of Marucci bats that were made for Closser, when he was with the Rockies AAA affiliate a couple years ago.... now they have a little worth to me.
  11. Does anyone remember how dominant Wood looked right before he went on the shelf (was it 05 or 06?) and was pitching out of the pen? He was hitting 99-101 on the gun against the Cardinals, who were one of the best hitting teams at the time. Made them look like complete garbage. That's what I'm hoping for.
  12. I am right there with you - John McDonough was great at what he did. The concerts seem to be counterproductive with the damage the inflict on the field, though. I have no problem with the Under Armour signs, either. As a matter of fact, the more I think about it the more I like the nostalgia of advertisements throughout the parks. Just don't mess with the Ivy.
  13. Does Zell have anything to do with the Under Armour adds in the power alleys? I don't have a big problem with that, but I don't think he gives a squirt of piss for the Cubs or Wrigley Field, just the opportunity to make a buck off it.
  14. Sam Zell is a schmuck. Here, he tells a journalist "f*** you": Here, he calls an executive a "mother f***er" :
  15. I think Roger threw himself under the bus, not Macnamee or Pettite. Those two were smart not to lie under oath, that's all.
  16. Lou Piniella is going to play the best people who will help the Cubs win. He isn't going to care about salaries. He showed us this last season in the playoffs by carrying some young guys on the playoff roster. That statement, IMO, took some "pressure" off some of the young guys.
  17. These are all scenerios that could and should be used before Cintron enters the equation: SS/2B Theriot/Cedeno Cedeno/Theriot Theriot/Fontenot Theriot/Patterson Cedeno/Patterson Theriot/Soriano Cedeno/Soriano The Cubs will be just fine until DeRosa returns. I wouldn't be surprised if the health situation has zero effect on the Roberts "negotiations."
  18. You really think we'll see Cintron before we see Eric Patterson or Cedeno? Fontenot?
  19. What's the big deal? So Piniella motivated the youngsters to prove him wrong - and if they don't want to do that they should want to ram it down his throat. Kudos for us having a guy managing the Cubs who knows how to play the mental games.
  20. Would this team be better with Soriano at 2B or CF, and Murton in LF? Offensively it seems so. Murton, to me, seems like he would be an ideal #2 hitter. He would also fit in nicely in KC, Texas, and several other teams. He just has the makeup of a good ML hitter, to me. He seems to be nothing more than tradebait for the Cubs, as I don't recall any plans for him being discussed.
  21. Nice Work =D> Thank you, my Long, Longfellow.
  22. Cintron & Fontenot? I'd think the options would be better with Cedeno at SS and slide Theriot to 2B, or Theriot at SS and Cedeno or Patterson at 2B. If worst comes to worst, you could even put Soriano at 2B and Murton in LF (sounds best to me).

  25. That stadium is one tropical storm away from making the Rays homeless. Great thinking whoever designed that. Maybe I'll go read the article.
