  1. Personally, I like Theriot (largely because I am a LSU fan). I know that he can and probably will do better than a .326 OB%, and like mentioned above, before the September decline - he had pretty respectable numbers. I am making the bold prediction that he will score 80-100 runs in 2008, and steal at least 30 bases, with an OB% over .350. If he starts stinking again, I am sure Lou will replace him with Cedeno or Fontenot, or whoever. I'm pulling for him, and if he hurts the Cubs, I'm pulling for his replacement.
  2. No, its not. At all. Maybe a little bit at first, but this is his second freaking book. He's just motivated by money/spite, nothing I see to really trust there. I'm sure some of what he said in the first book may have happened to some degree but its in his best interest to sensationalize, because otherwise he loses that lucrative book deal. At least multiple people admitted their wrong doing when the Mitchell Report hit, he'll never admit he made stuff up, at least, not until he's out of book deals. Ok, what did he make up or sensationalize? Rafael Palmeiro? Tested positive and currently in hiding like a Munich terrorist. Mark McGwire? Pretty sure he used the juice also, as he now looks more like a pock-faced middleweight than the contender for the WWE Intercontinental belt he favored when he was bashing HR's at a record pace. But no, Jose Canseco, is the scumbag here. The only black-eye that baseball has tried to bury because HE was more or less blackballed, blacklisted, whatever from baseball before he got the chance to hit that 500th HR, or add to his impressive Major League totals. MLB didn't want Jose Canseco, and for whatever reason, it looks like the MLBPA turned their back on one of their own. Why? Did he know too much? Did he talk too much? Hmmmmm. Guys like McGwire, Clemens, and the like are the ones kids and fans looked up to and labeled "heroes" of the game, when the reality of the situation is that since the villainous Canseco started tooting his horn, the "preservers of the integrity of the game" have been grilled by Congress and made to at least acknowledge the rampant drug abuse that is MLB. I am jogging my mind to find the testimonies that Canseco ever made that proved to be outright lies, or at least came out that way in the wash. Help me out....
  3. You are not nuts, bhogg. Yes, Canseco is a freakshow. But in a twisted way, his word is more solid than just about any MLB player alive. That's how sad the state of the game is.
  4. Either BOOM or HARVESTER OF SORROW. Book it.
  5. Why not? I would say you don't leave an offer on the table AND expect it to work out. Nothing wrong with leaving an offer on the table and searching elsewhere. What's the worst thing that could happen if you leave it on the table? You don't have to honor it later on down the line.
  6. Why put down an ultimatum? How does that benefit you? CubinNY had a good bargaining chip by leaving the offer on the table. Did CubinNY lose anything? No. Still found a property by expanding his options. Hendry may have left an offer on the table that the Orioles may take. He has already given up too many prospects for guys like Juan Pierre, Steve Trachsel, etc. Roberts will make this team better, but the Cubs are in good shape with DeRosa in the meantime. No need to push the issue.
  7. Reed Johnson likes to get hit by pitches almost as much as he likes to take a walk. HBP is getting on base, so I'm down with that.
  8. I read his book with no problem - and realized that I was reading the words of a man who had zero loyalty to the MLBPA and all the players he ratted out. I found it interesting, and it seems that every person he outed is coming through in the wash. So far. His tune in the book was that steroids were good for the game, and make you the most you can be - if used correctly. He seems to have changed his tune in the hearing. Perhaps he is a dynamic character? Scumbag - yes. How many of our "heroes" are just as crappy? Clemens? Sosa? etc.....
  9. I think it is wonderful that the Cubs have TWO corner OFers who CAN play CF, but we have two pretty decent corner OFers on the bench (Murton, Hoff) who can't fit in on this team because they CAN'T play CF. Of course, Pie and Patterson are pretty decent options in CF - but since nobody is going to work, the Cubs have FIVE OFers who just seem to be square pegs....
  10. Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same thing. Doh!
  11. It seems to me that Lou, at this point, would favor Micah Hoff in RF if a platoon were to take Pie out against LHP. I really don't understand the Murton phenomenon. The guy rakes LHP, had a pretty nice rookie season, and seems ideal for the #2 spot in the lineup. SS Theriot RF Murton 3B Ramirez 1B Lee CF Fukudome LF Soriano 2B DeRosa CA Soto or SS Theriot CF Fukudome 3B Ramirez LF Soriano 1B Lee 2B DeRosa RF Murton CA Soto
  12. Seriously, Izturis is tanking his perfomances so that he will get released and picked up by the Reds. It's halfway done. The masterplan, dude.
  13. Evan Longoria is going to win ROY.
  14. The hit Longoria in the head?????
  15. classless Who is OMC and what is that all about?
  16. Wow, Duncan deserves that. Spikes to the groin/inner thigh = not cool.
  17. I don't understand what Girardi's problem is with that play. His catcher was all over the plate, like he should be on that play. What is the baserunner supposed to do? Concede himself as an out? This is Major League Baseball, as he well knows. Guys are trying to make a team.
  18. They probably should. They aren't going to be good for several years, wasting his best, and most cost effective years, and he's bound to be hurt by then anyway. Remember, Dusty Baker is "managing" in Cincy now.
  19. Hell, even with a .326 Ob% for Theriot - he scored 80 runs. His batting average would be better than Uribe's. I'll take Theriot.
  20. For those of you who don't already know - San Francisco will not be trading Lincecum.
  21. They need to have a hot dog eating contest up there. http://takeru-kobayashi.com/porkchop/pht_34.jpg
  22. Wait - Howry blew 4 saves compared to how many BS for Dempster???
  23. Does anyone feel that Fuld is actually ready for MLB? Take a look at his MiL history and it's easy to see that he needs more time on the farm.
  24. Len and Bob are great. Bob, to me, seems to get better every season. I was a big Stone fan, and will have many fond memories, but I am happy with what we have.
