  1. I'd rather see Soriano protecting Fukudome... CF Johnson SS Theriot/Cedeno 1B Lee 3B Ramirez RF Fukudome LF Soriano 2B DeRosa/Cedeno CA Soto or SS Theriot RF Fukudome 1B Lee 3B Ramirez LF Soriano 2B DeRosa CA Soto CF Pie Or trade him for Santana or something....
  2. If anything has been learned this past couple weeks - it has to be that when you get on base, your chances of scoring increase greatly. Rocket science. I'd keep the guys getting on base at the top of the order. Johnson/Theriot is working....
  3. Cedeno had another great game tonight. A couple hits, a walk, and a perfectly executed bunt. I am impressed with his execution. The kid is looking good. Theriot had a big hit too. This is a great problem to have. This team is playing unconscious right now. I love this.
  4. Records aside, when is the last time the Cubs had an offense as good as this? I can't remember one that got on base like this.
  5. I think it is cool that Theriot seemed to be the first to congratulate him in the dugout. When Theriot had a big hit the other day, Cedeno seemed to be one of the first to jump on him in the dugout.
  6. I'm a Theriot fan because I love LSU and what he did there. I want him to be a good contributor, but the big picture for me is I love the Cubs. If Cedeno is better, I want him on SS. He has better tools, and lots more potential. Theriot is hot right now, but his hits are soft. Lots of seeing eye singles and doubles that dribble down the line. Don't get me wrong, that works for me - and I think he'll do it more consistantly than Cedeno will put one in the seats with the bags juiced. That may be better in the long run - but as long as Ronny is swinging the bat with theatrics - you HAVE to keep him in the lineup. Even if it costs Theriot AB's.
  7. So do you trade Pie and Hill for Oswalt?
  8. Damn, this is a tough call. I don't stop putting Cedeno out there right now, though. Theriot is never going to hit for this kind of power. At least let them play up the middle with DeRosa filling in around in the OF. Jeez, who isn't hot - Fontenot? This team is the balls.

  10. I see a LOT of pessimism in this thread - but look at a few things.... *This is a good start. The starting pitching hasn't really been great except for Z and Dempster. Wait until everyone gets on track (or off?). *As stated, Ramirez and Soriano haven't settled in yet. Again, wait.... *Good teams find ways to win. This team is good without the production of two of their biggest bats, and the starting pitching isn't stellar. The team is all chipping in to carry the weight - a good sign of strength. *We still need a true #2 starter, or perhaps another ace. *God help us when Soto starts hitting HRs. *So far in 2008, with a runner on 3rd and 2 outs late in the game, the Cubs are hitting .405 (17-42) with 35 RBI. That includes 5 doubles, 4 BB, and 7 K's. *With the bases loaded, the 2008 Cubbies are hitting a robust .389 (7-18) with 22 RBI and a .458 OB%.
  11. I'm not going to lie, the last time I was at Wrigley I was lit. Thank God for the burrito joint underneath the L. I didn't throw anything on the field, and I sure didn't kick any babies/old people. I had a [expletive] great time. Thank you Budweiser products.
  12. If I was a hitting coach, the first thing I would do is have all my guys read Ted Williams' book "The Science of Hitting." People can learn plate discipline.
  13. Good stuff, Bruce.
  14. For the record - I was round-a-bout trying to point out that if Dusty and Jacque ever want to paint the picture that Chicago is a town that doesn't like blacks (which some people seem to think they are doing) - there are several black athletes (American blacks, Hispanic blacks, etc.) who captured our hearts and are our heros. Also - I teach my kids that there are all kinds of different looking people in the world - and that we are all the same, just a little different. If that makes any sense. Bigger car is right - there is still racism out there, but to say Chicago is a racist town is just plain ignorant. Right?
  15. Golf clap. I chuckled. I know, because Chicago hates black people like Michael Jordan, Ferguson Jenkins, Ernie Banks, Andre Dawson, Walter Peyton, Sammy Sosa (in the heyday), Billy Williams, Bill Clinton, and Ced Landrum.
  16. Walker is living here in Shreveport. He's been laying low, enjoying the family from what I hear. Indoor soccer, stuff like that.
  17. well luckily the phillies did not have this attitude with mike schmidt, or he'd probably have been just another hot prospect who flopped rather than the greatest third baseman of all time. I'm sure that Pie is going to be fine. Maybe the Cubs should have given Choi another year at 1st base? Pie's defense alone would justify him starting.
  18. yeah the problem with this thinking is that until you let pie adjust to major league pitching, there's always going to be "someone better in the lineup now." I'm sorry that there is a problem with my thinking, but as long as the Cubs are winning games with RJ in CF, I'm all for it. The way I see it, a player learns how to play in the minor leagues and has all those things worked out when he earns his spot in the show. I have no problem with Pie getting some OTJ training, but now when only 4 guys in the lineup are producing. When Soriano, Ramirez, and everyone are settled in - that would be a good time to let him get the time to adjust.
  19. Yes, Felix has a long swing, but he is going to be fine. I think Reed Johnson is better in the lineup now, though. If it benefits Pie, let him get some AB's in AAA - Murton deserves to be up.
  20. You get Barry Bonds, I'll take Carlos Beltran.
  21. In his defense, he was strapped with key injuries (that may or may not have been his fault). You can't ignore the # of pitches per game, the ridiculous lineups, and the fact that Dusty spent a couple of years begging Hendry to get him better talent on the field. I think his undoing was his faith in vets, and his lack of faith in farm-hands. Dude.
  22. Mark Grace was a pretty low draft pick. I don't know how he was ranked after signing, but he had great ML numbers.
  23. My inner pitching coach was telling me he wasn't releasing the ball out in front. No control of the curveball tonight, folks.
  24. We have some nice depth, folks.
