  1. The Brewers are a rivalry like it or not, based on proximity alone. The rivalry is not like the Cards/Cubs but is not forced. I read something that before the braves moved to Atlanta the Milwaukee/Chicago games were pretty heated. Getting KC for Milwaukee would be a loss. We might win some more games initially but before last year the brewers were thought of as a team that was almost there. Give me the brewers.
  2. IU is not going to go after Bruce Pearl. Pearl will never work in the Big Ten. I would imagine IU looks at Licklighter, Anthony Grant, Scott Drew, or Sean Miller. Hell maybe they even try and get Matta, he grew up a huge IU fan. No way would Lickliter or Matta leave. Lick isn't a true Hoosier like our last guy. He already left the one school he had loyalty and ties to. I think Iowa is a better fit for his personality than IU. Miller would be a good target. Thank you Exile for talking about Drew, I was about to say the same thing when I saw his name mentioned. I laughed a couple weeks ago when the national media was praising him after that 5 OT win for how much he's cleaned up that program and the amazing turnaround he's had. Well yeah the turnaround has been something, but it's not so amazing when you hear about how he's done it. Please IU, please bring Steve back home. It would be so sweet to beat him at a "real basketball school" when he's "back in red" and hear what excuses he would come up with. I actually liked Alford a fair amount and defended him quite a bit when he was here, but he did himself no favors on the way out. IU offers and Licklighter is gone in a second. You would blink and he would be driving out of Iowa City. What are you basing that off of? Obviously IU is a superior program and no one would dispute that. But IU would be facing sanctions that could really make it tough on him and don't return a ton. He has a 7 year contract paying him roughly the same that IU was paying Sampson and would have to pay a $3M buyout if he left. He's not a quick fix guy and knows he has patience and time at Iowa. That wouldn't be the case at IU. We have $40M worth of renovations to Carver plus a new practice facility coming that he's helped put together. He has no ties to IU at all. Plus he's a really low-key guy who doesn't enjoy a lot of limelight. Maybe you're right. Like I said no one would argue that the IU job is a better gig. I just don't think the timing is right and I think the Iowa job fits his personality better. Because a coaches ultimate goal is to win a national championship. How are you going to do that at Iowa? Your state rarely produces top flight talent. When it does, Kansas is usually there to take it from you. At IU if he does things the right way he would get enough time to turn things around. He would also be able to recruit a much more fertile state. I'm not going to argue that it's much easier to win at IU and Iowa may never win a title. In regards to the Kansas thing, that was more an issue of Iowa coaches leaving. Raef was the only one who really spurned the other two for Kansas. Hinrich was committed to Iowa State until Floyd left. Collison was Iowa's until the Dr. Tom fiasco. His family was lifelong Iowa fans/boosters. Then Bowlsby pushed Davis out, but Davis went to the president and made sure he could coach that last year on his contract. He then refused to recruit anyone at all during his lame-duck year and Collison had no choice. I think Lickliter could have guided the Horner/Brunner/Haluska group that mostly underachieved under Alford but still got a 3 seed to a much deeper run in the tourney. Possibly a Final Four. We also passed over Kyle Korver (whom Lick would have drooled over) and All-MVC guys in Jacobson and Funk who really would have rounded out that squad. Gatens is a top 100 kid and some have Cougill (who is committed in the '09 class) ranked that high. There are two top 100 kids in the '10 class in Derby and Barnes (likely to ISU). I'm not dellusional at all about Iowa. You can't win just recruiting Iowa. But there is good talent to supplement and you have some fertile ground surrounding you which he's doing a good job with in '09. Indiana obviously provides much more. I think more than anything it's timing. If he had stayed at Butler it would make a ton of sense. You may be right though. Do people really think IU would go for a coach who has been at a fellow big ten school for not even a year. Especially when there are no ties to IU. This idea is insane. Licklighter may leave my hawkeyes some day. But it will not be next year to join the mess IU has created for themselves.
  3. It shouldn't but it will. The NCAA really doesn't want to hurt Indiana. Get rid of the problem then NCAA thinks ok hears the slap on the wrist. I see maybe 1 scholorship being taken away.
  4. When I say bad, please read that as an obvious double dribble and a travel with under a minute to go. And Eddie H wasn't even doing the game.
  5. I just wonder what the NCAA does to IU after this is all said and done. Indiana, while not what they used to be, are still a big name Basketball school. I see Sampson getting fired then the NCAA will barely give them a slap on the wrists. NCAA rarely goes after the top name programs. IU is definitely that in basketball.
  6. After the first week or so Spring Training bores me. It's like I've seen baseball again (which I am excited about) but then I realize these games mean nothing.
  7. Does this really surprise anyone. It was just a matter of time. IU knew what he was about before they hire him. I feel no pitty for them.
  8. Step one of baseball being back starts tomorrow =D> Step 1-Pitchers and Catchers report Step 2-Individual Tix go on sale Step 3-Whole team Reports Step 4-First ST game Step 5-Regular season starts.
  9. Thanks a lot vance I had completely forgot about that loser.
  10. I'd have to go with the Twins stadium as that's the only one I wil probabaly make it to. Because of proximity to me.
  11. Never did this before so sign me up.
  12. It was just a mere two weeks ago that IU fans were telling me that Purdue will get crushed in their only meeting this year. I think they're starting to sweat a little bit now. I still have a hard time buying into the Purdue thing since they struggled against my hawkeyes at Purdue, who are very bad.
  13. Since 2005, Michigan has recruited 3 QB...Ryan Mallet, David Cone, and Jason Forcier. That can't be good. And what's worse it seems like they put all of their eggs in their basket for Terrelle Pryor, who may not even got to Michigan. There is not a distinguishable QB on Michigan's roster (unless someone familiar with Michigan football can fillme in), so they better hope they land Pryor, or they are looking at a LONG...Notre Dame type season. BTB, even if they land Pryor, I believe Pryor will end at either DE or TE/WR before he leaves college. He just doens't look naturally as a QB. My guess.....David Cone???? it's not that pryor may not go to michigan - it's very likely that he's not going. it's been reported by multiple sources that pryor was going to commit to ohio state on LOI day, but his dad talked to him the night before that and asked him to take an official visit to penn state. so he's going to take officials to psu and oregon now. but ohio state is still the favorite. apparently his dad had some sort of work-related injury and is in a wheelchair or something... i heard this discussed on the radio. it'd be hard for his dad to travel to columbus to see him play, so that's why his dad wants him to come to psu. but apparently the son likes the columbus area better than happy valley and also was spending a lot of his time at the all-american game with ohio state commits. plus they pay better. so that's still the odds on favorite. but the way i hear it now is that michigan (and i suppose oregon as well) are big long-shots. apparently they have a kid who transferred from georgia tech, and he was somewhat highly-regarded coming out of high school, but even if he turns out to be a player, he's going to struggle a lot at first. and, michigan does not have anybody who can run the spread option. the ga tech transfer and david cone are both pocket passers. the only real running quarterback is a guy they just signed from florida, and he wasn't that highly-regarded as a qb prospect. for him to come in and start immediately would be a huge stretch. Steven Threet is the QB that transfered from Georgia Tech. He was pretty highly regarded coming out of high school, and was doing very well in practice ball according to the rivals and scout forums. He'll probably be the first option for next year. Michigan also recruited a guy out of Florida named Justin Feagin who's the dual-threat type QB who might also get a look. We'll probably be seeing some sort of dual QB system next season with what we have at QB. I'm not expecting much from Michigan this coming year. It's going to be a tough year with the transition. They'll probably lose 3-4 games next season. And this is why I hate UM losing 3 games is a bad season. Losing 3 games they are probably in the Outback maybe the Capital one bowl. Not to shabby for a bad year. :banghead:
  14. I wonder if there will be a day when all the dates will be one price. (The prime date price)
  15. Every-one's forgetting the important day. Individual tickets go on sale in 16 days. When this day hits I know for sure which games I'm going to.
  16. First off the Rangers are an American League team. Just make the Cubs your National League team. The twins are my American League team. You can be a fan but you probably won't be a diehard at least overnight. I'm not saying a person can't be diehard evenually. I'm a huge Minnesota Wild fan (NHL). Growing up didn't get into hockey at all moved to Michigan got introduced to the sport became a mild Red Wing fan. I never got to into the team even though they were contantly winning. Moved to Iowa and went to St. Paul for a NHL game really enjoyed myself. I started to watch the Wild more and eventually started to hate the Red Wings. I think if a person really wasn't a big fan of a sport but then got into the sport more you could easilly drop one team for another.
  17. That stinks and now 1 more year we have to hear about the '72 dolphins.
  18. In about 3 1/2 hours the '72 dolphins will be crying in their champagne.
  19. I just threw up. I have to agree with others the music kind of blew. Plus the evil music started when we were playing and winning the NLDS. That didn't match up.
  20. This is the only reason a non Patriot fan should want them to win. That being said I will cheer for the Pat's in this game as if they were the Bears. The most overrated and worst sports of all time need to finally shut up.
  21. At Tiger Stadium Yankees At the Metro Dome A's Yankees (ALDS) Angels At Wrigley Brewers Cardinals Mariners Rockies Pirates Astro's Tigers Nationals There are others but I can't remember because I've seen so many.
  22. Probably just because it's a tangible sign that the season is one step closer.Yep, it's more symbolic than anything else. There's nothing specifically about pitchers and catchers reporting that gets me excited, but it means we're one step closer to spring training games, followed by the regular season. I look at it kind of like boiling a pot of water. Pitchers and Catchers report- The oven is turned on. Individual Tickets go on sale- Some small bubbles start to appear. First Spring Training game- Many bubbles are starting to appear. Opening day- The water in the pot is officially boiled.
  23. Since Vance is the only one so far to put a date out there I'll put one out there too. I'll be there May 29th through 31st.
