  1. I signed up as well hears a reach hawkcub.
  2. Go Drake. Gotta go with an Iowa team. Since my Hawkeyes were pretty much guaranteed not to make it from day 1 of the season.
  3. KW is not going to be a stater again. That ship has passed.
  4. The call on #2 when the announcer said Daryle Ward Chicago Style Salami was pretty bad too.
  5. Not a bad compromise -- depending of course how the "significant signage" looks. If they take down the ivy and cover the bricks with ads, I will publicly tar and feather their CEO in a public square. That I would sure agree with. I'm thinking signs on the electronic scoreboards in the grandstands and maybe even a small one on the big scoreboard in center. Then of course all over the concourse. Isn't there already signage in those places already.
  6. 1985 all over again. Yeah I said it.
  7. With Marquis having issues with now 3 well respected baseball managers I think teams will have to be desperate to want him. If it happens once it might be the managers fault. If it happens twice well maybe just 2 bad situations. If it happens 3 times there is a pattern here.
  8. Well the cubs lose. Eh it's only Spring training.
  9. That's really it. As long as those things are intact (I would include the bleachers, but since they were just renovated, I don't see it being an issue), and any renovation is congruous, the rest doesn't matter. The grandstands/bathrooms/concourse are not charming, they suck. Seeing that the bleachers were just renovated and the field replaced, we aren't going to see a new stadium in the near future. So significant improvements are going to have to be made. Yeah, the great Wrigley grandstand project is approaching. Only question is what to do with the Cubs when it's happening. Why do they have to do the whole thing at once? They did the bleachers in one off season. Just do part of the grand stands for 3 or 4 years.
  10. First game many of us get to watch the Cubs and they give us that line up. Give me a break. Always nice to see what our bench and AAA is going to look like.
  11. I agree, I just hope they don't eliminate the pillars and put the upper deck in another time zone See through Pillars :D
  12. Baseball immerses itself in history more then any other sport. People were talking about Bonds and the HR record for 2 years maybe 3. It was a big deal when he got to second place. In the 80's every Pete Rose at bat (when he got close to the record) was cutting in on prime time programming when pursuing the hits record. This all being said the name Wrigley field is part of MLB's great history. You can go to many places in the world and many people know that Wrigley Field is the place the Chicago Cubs play baseball. Anyone who wants to taint it is just evil. So you people who think this is no big deal. You are just incorrect. Baseball is about history and the name Wrigley Field just oozes it.
  13. The funny thing about Brent Musburger is everybody thinks he's biased against their school. I love him for CFB but any other sport just does not seem right.
  14. What will probably happen is they will call it Wrigley Field presented by "a companies name". Sort of like the Rose Bowl does. All the other bowls are called stuff like the Tostito Fiesta Bowl or the FedEx Orange bowl. I think the the Rose Bowl is called the Rose Bowl presented by AT & T. They will do that with Wrigley as that's the only way this happens without a huge backlash.
  15. I'm here with the fine manager of the Chicago Cubs. :D
  16. Yeah there is a reason tailgating is so big before a brewers game. It's because it's the only choice.
  17. I'm really only half kidding. I really hate the Cell and hope they don't decide to play there. Yes crime is bad there, and yes, its relatively safe IF you're there in a group. HOWEVER the park and its neighborhood are just lame and awful. Its surrounded by acres of parking lots!!! I wish they could play in Milwaukee instead. MUCH better neighborhood and better ballpark too!! I like the Cubs and all, but it'll get old watching them play some crappy team in a crappy ballpark. No thanks! i've gone there, by myself, at night, on the El, and have never had issues. there are thousands of people going to and from the park at game times...you're unlikely to be wandering dark alleys at night. also, while not Wrigley by a long shot, The Cell isn't a horrible place to see a game. Has anyone mentioned that the crime statistics are actually worse for the area surrounding Wrigley Field than the area surrounding US Cellular Field? I was going to say that but I'm sure someone who's misinformed would have blasted me for it.
  18. While closing down Wrigley down for a year will suck, going to U.S Cellular is not the end of the world. For those of you who don't think Reinsdorf would allow this, are you insane. True he's a Sox fan but he's a business man first. Do you think he would pass on any lease money from the Cubs not to mention all of the concession money. As an out of state Cubs fan this would not be wonderful but remember you are still in Chicago. One of the greatest cities in the WORLD, if not the greatest. As far as safety goes. 10 of thousands White Sox's fans go there every game yet you really never hear anything bad happening. Actually from what I hear the area around the park really isn't that bad. We all need to remember someday the Cubs will need to address the age of Wrigley. Would you rather play in Shamburgh or Clark on Addison going forward.
  19. There's no question that they would outdraw the Sox. They might not be selling at the level they are now but they definitely would sell more then Sox Fan's think.
  20. my guess is they'll do something very similar to Soldier Field, wherein they retain the facade of the park and gut all the stands /clubhouses and start over As long as they keep the big things that make it Wrigley Field, I'm ok with it. Keep the scoreboard, the Ivy, the brick, the bullpens along the foul lines, and the Wrigleyville atmosphere. Don't give me any damn jumbotrons. Quite honestly any new ballpark would get rid of certain things. The Ivy is gone unless they can figure out away to grow it through padded walls. Same thing goes for the brick. Because they would have to build it to code.
  21. i've done it and i'm still alive...it's not bad at all. hotel was nice and only a block from the station...i think it was right around 85 bones a nite. What was the name of the hotel? looks like the name has changed cause i think it was a wyndham last year when i was there, but HERE is a link to hotels.com's info. they have a complimentary shuttle if you don't wanna walk to the station, which is actually a bit more than a block, but i never bothered using it. Thanks Wekse, I'm actually staying at this place called Spring Hill Suites by Marriott which is a block away. I called them and they said the Blue line was a 10 minute walk. Your hotel was 127 for those days while the one I'm staying at is 109. Sucks I'm not staying right in Chicago but this will have to do. At least I don't have to ride a Metra train.
  22. i've done it and i'm still alive...it's not bad at all. hotel was nice and only a block from the station...i think it was right around 85 bones a nite. What was the name of the hotel?
  23. I saw some rooms by O'hare that weren't so expensive. Well some people say the area around Midway is iffy. While others say it's just fine. How about the area around O'Hare. Could a person get back there, by train late at night. Or would it be kind of unsafe to do such a thing.
