  1. What does this mean? I keep hearing the same thing from people, "Don't blame/pick on/single out/criticize/etc Mr. X, there are plenty of other people involved as well." If we can't pick out and discuss specific stories within the story, how in the hell do you get a grasp on the big picture? We keep hearing about how it's a huge mess that the league should have taken care of and the league failed. Well, all of these people being discussed are part of the league. It's like a bad school. You can't blame the student for not caring, you can't blame the teacher for not being able to handle 25 students who don't care, you can't blame the principal for not being able to get his teachers to teach better, you can't blame the superintendent because he has no funds to use, you can't blame the parents because they've tried. Everybody is a part of this mess. Regardless of all this, my main problem is with Dusty's BS about not knowing what steroids were, but still lamenting the loss of his friend Alzado. And then him saying he didn't know what was in the story, but then admitting he read it. Him talking about McCarthyism and the witch hunt, then talking about how he was one of the biggest people talking out on this subject. If you want to stay quiet to protect your team or player, you have the right. But don't come out years later saying you had no idea what was going on but you were also talking out against steroids at the same time even though you aren't even sure what steroids are.
  2. Who said it was Baker's fault? And who is singling Baker out while letting others off the hook. Baker had some really stupid sounding and contradictory quotes in the paper about this issue today. He's part of the story. You said he should have said something to Bonds...what I said was how do you know he didn't say anything to him? And honestly, you think Dusty could have made a difference in Bond's action? Let alone the other guys like Palmero and Giambi, who Baker had nothing to do with at all. This was a higher up issue, much higher than even the team level. Higher than the team? That's the commish, and the commish has no power without the consent of the owners and players.
  3. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2359699 Sounds like the Vikings asked Pep to learn how to be an actual Quarterback now that Moss is gone Or he thinks he should be allowed to have sex with hookers on boats whenever he wants without repercussion.
  4. You think so? I think it's been pretty sloppy and uninspiring, like a AAA all star game or something. Close and interesting, yes, but good?
  5. If I hear one more thing about how much more fundamentally sound latin players are compared to American players I'm going to throw something.

  7. Not really. I wouldn't mind seeing them advance, but not just to see them lose.
  8. Jason Bay is the best. Koskie, Morneau and Stairs are probably the next group of well knowns. The pitchers are rather mediocre or unknowns.
  9. Except for the moron constantly banging junk together. Yeah, it seems like there are 4 people making noice, and the rest of the crowd is silent.
  10. The Cubans got down early and pulled their starter, but they've hit Chen in the 3rd and now lead 2-1. The ballpark is dead.
  11. I think Buck is treating this like a spring training game, possibly interviewing for his next job to show he knows where the bread is buttered.
  12. How hard is Bay going to hit Leiter? He's got a 1500 OPS against him, but not HR yet. Morneau is at 1000.
  13. Me neither. If you went off looks alone, every running back at the N.F.L. combine last week was on the gas. There's evidence, it's just elsewhere. Football is played once per week, baseball 5-6 times per week. That makes all the difference in the world. That and 21 year old running backs didn't go from tall slender athletes into monster behemoths in one offseason in their 30's.
  14. Where is Dusty being singled out? He's one of many, because of that should we never mention his name in the discussion? What thread are we in again? So now somebody can't start a thread responding to an absurd quote from Dusty? Singled out would be saying that Dusty should be banned from baseball, it's all Dusty's fault, Dusty is the problem. Talking about his part of the problem is not singling him out. Sticking your head in the sand to ignore the problem is exactly what helped make the problem what it is today. People are saying "everybody is guilty therefore nobody is guilty." That's absurd.

  16. First thing he could have done is say, "Barry, I'm hearing a lot about your Anderson and steroids. Are you using them?" Worrying about whether or not that was the best thing for the team is completely ridiculous when your consider that way of thinking is exactly why so many people ignored it during the 90's. People like to rag on MLB for ignoring the situation, well, Dusty was part of the MLB, he was part of the ignorance. Everybody likes to pin it all on Bud. He's not dictator, Barry is guilty, Dusty is guilty, lots of people are guilty of contributing to the problem and/or doing nothing to solve the problem.
  17. Why is it an either/or proposition. There's still plenty of headlines on the WBC and spring training if that's what you want to read. And it's very easy to ignore this story.
  18. The only explanation is that Dusty wants Barry to die. That's obviously true.
  19. I'm not holding his feet to the fire for not confronting Barry, but I still contend he had an obligation to do it. What I really don't like is his BS hemming and hawing when talking about the steroids scandal.
  20. What has the team done for him? They are employing him and paying him an exhorbitant contract. What else could they do? Foot massages? paying a man a contract and giving him a foot massage arent in the same ballpark. hell, they arent even in the same sport! have you ever given a foot massage? Would you give another man a foot massage?
  21. Well you could have got that practice in the past, when you were asked repeatedly to make the move.
  22. I know a kid who got called on it by his coach in college. Why is it suddenly perfectly fine to do the wrong thing just because so many others are doing it?
