  1. Over the course of the season, you are half right (a pitcher can't control if he gets the W). But in the first game back following surgery the ERA and W-L is pretty meaningless. The peripherals tell you much more.
  2. Frank Robinson with a wise old man delay tactic, having his reliever throwing the ball into play.
  3. That he always has a bad inning. Unless you're expecting shutouts all the time, he does not always have bad innings. He's not God. He's had bad innings, yes, but every pitcher does.
  4. I'm wondering if he can beat his career low OPS+ of 40 for KC in 2002. He did that in over 550 PAs. Mendoza averaged 41 for his career, but never had 400 PA in any one season.
  5. I'm fine with Wood's outing today (though I wish it had gone another inning or so). He looked very good aside from the homers of course. But if the offense doesn't improve, Wood won't matter. Not trying to be glib, but should we care how he looks or what the results are? Giving up 3 HRs in 5 innings isn't good, even if he struck out 15 batters. That's always been the problem with KW You should care how he looks, given it was his first game back, results were not the end all. But he walked nobody had a WHIP of just 1.00 and struck out 6 in 5 IP, while averaging just 14.2 pitches per inning. Those results are all very positive.
  6. If somebody has the opinion that Wood is a near lock (I would be shocked if....) to leave this game with discomfort, than other people have every right to reply. Some people are optimists some are pessimists calling them bitter is not going to change that. That is the point I was making. Optimists or pessimist it does not matter, the point was made that expectations were unrealistic given the type of complaints. He made a good point, although the bitter comments might have been unnecessary.
  7. Wood has settled down nicely. Only problem is that Woody ALWAYS has the tough inning or two when he gets lit up and looks solid the rest of the game Except for the fact that that's not true, you're dead on.
  8. If it wasn't for all that top notch PR telling us about Pierre's work ethic and for his quotes where he just admits he sucks, Pierre would be getting shredded right now. He's provided the blueprint for every crappy player that doesn't want to be criticized too much.
  9. Anybody who goes crazy when Wood nibbles should take note of this outing. 5 IP, 71 pitches, 14.2 per inning, 6 k, 0 BB, 5 H. He got beat on 3 HR, which guys give up when they are always in the zone but aren't perfect every time.

  11. Some drunk chick is pitching for the Nationals now.
  12. 61 through 4, not bad on the efficiency meter. Would bring him through 7 with 106. Hopefully he can get through 6 with 90 or less.
  13. Keeps Wood arm from getting too cold. You know me, always thinking of the positives.
  14. What did you expect a no-hitter? It's his first game back. Relax. Well, if he was ready to come back I would expect a little more than that, but I was just talking in generalities of how bad this team is. As usual the Messiah has a high pitchcount early in the game and is getting battered around this is Kerry's MO. He will probably settle down but he always seems to have one or two bad innings early in games. Career ERA of 3.67, ERA+ of 116. Obviously he doesn't always have one or two bad innings a game. It's his first game back. Everybody warned that he would not be perfect, he's shown signs of dominance, but can't be expected to be 100% right now. If he shows no signs of improvement in the coming games then you can start complaining, but this isn't that big of a deal.
  15. Even Santo is getting annoyed at Pat's ridiculous decision to talk about the Sandy Martinez article in the middle of this inning. Talk about the freaking game already!
  16. Hairston >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Womack Nah, Hairston needs to go. I'll take Womack on the bench if we can get something for Hairston. I've seen enough stupid baseball to last a lifetime... Hairston is better than Womack, as bad as Hairston is.
