  1. If I'm not mistaken, that would be 3 straight appearances by Turnbow. Maybe he was hoping the Cubs wouldn't score, and they'd get to build on the 2 run lead in the 9th, making it unnecessary to send him out there at all today. But yeah, there's no reason to save your best reliever for the less dangerous hitters.
  2. And you can't even think about trading any of the veteran relievers, they are saving us.
  3. What are the actions I'm supposed to hold him accountable for? Not being great? Being injured? Having setbacks after being overused at a very young age? Okay. Mark Prior, you dastardly fiend, how dare you get injured and have setbacks. Now get back in there and get better today, there is no room for gradual improvements. This is baseball, nobody ever takes time to improve, or get back to health, and nobody ever suffers setbacks.
  4. Just because you want it to be black and white doesn't mean it is black and white. The word ruin isn't necessarily the right word anyway. He ruined the early part of his career, that's for certain. But he didn't necessarily ruin him to the point where he's done. It's called a setback. Injuries are setbacks, they aren't always career enders. Misuse today could hurt you tomorrow, but it doesn't mean you will never regain the form.
  5. He should be blamed for getting injured? You don't make any sense. The theory is that Dusty's use hurt Prior. It may not have completely ruined him. And he might be able to come back from those problems and get better. Just because he has a chance to recover from the abuse related setbacks earlier in his career doesn't mean he should be criticized for not being great right now. Seriously, you don't make any sense whatsoever.
  6. Why either/or? It's not necessarily permanent ruination. Who knows, maybe he is done. I doubt it. What I don't doubt is that the way they used him early on played a significant role in his later problems.
  7. He already got his RBI for the day. And week
  8. Because it was a little looping one hopper to second base that could have been caught on the fly. Tough to tell if it would be caught or not(granted it ended up bouncing). Jones did the right thing. He's on second with no outs and the game is tied. There's one out (now two) with Blanco coming up. Now, but when the play happened there were no outs. Rrriiiiiiigght. Which is why they were trying to sacrifice him over to third.
  9. Just for the fun of it, the Cubs have a .296 team OBP today. But they'll blame it on the lack of clutch hits, because they are only hitting .250 with RISP.

  11. Somewhat are - Cedeno couldn't get a bunt down to move Jones to third. Except with Blanco next there was little chance of a sac fly anyway, so a sac bunt wouldn't have helped the team at all.
  12. The only reasoning I could come up with is that he thinks if he starts using him in non-save situations a lot again, he thinks everyone will start complaining about that again. Given that, he probably views the current situation as the lesser of two evils because at least if Dempster gets hurt, people won't put it all on Dusty for overworking another pitcher. In his defense, I can see why he would think irrationally. People have been complaining about his overuse of both the starters and relievers since he got here. No matter what he does, it's wrong, and that sucks for him. How does any of this make sense? And how can you even attempt to defend Baker with this logic? Baker does not adjust what he does because fans get pissed at him. And why would using Dempster occasionally in non-save situations have to equal using him a lot in non-save situations?
  13. Goony worships the ground I walk on, so I'm not surprised. :D The streets and beaches of San Diego? That's true, I do.
  14. It's out of his control man.
  15. That was constructive. Are you still drunk from last night? :D LOL! Sorry but to say Lee is below average is stupid. I don't care what stats he has to say that. You know we're talking about defense, right? Yes. I'm confused. I'm surprised that he's only considered a little below average. Do you think he's a gold glove candidate? Gold glove candidate? Of course I do. Do you know they are talking about Carlos Lee?
  16. Omg....Dusty it's your job to make sure he gets enough work. arrrrrrgggghhhh. If you want to know why Dusty doesn't put Dempster in more in non-save situations, it's probably because everybody complained about him using him in non-save situations too much last year. Dusty does everything to extremes, which means he could do one thing, get reemed for it, then do the opposite and people are still mad at him. That's how he looks at things. Just FYI. That insinuates that Dusty cares about other people's opinions and that he'll adjust accordingly. If this was remotely true then no Cubs hitter would ever swing, every starter would be pulled at 95 pitches, there would be no sac bunts, young kids would play all the time, etc.
  17. This is what people have to remember when they say, "it doesn't matter if Dusty is fired now or after the season", or, "it doesn't matter if Dusty is fired if Hendry is still here." It does matter. Not only is he a bad manager for today, he is the worst possible manager to have in a season when you are out of it and have to find out things about kids who may or may not be able to fill roles next year. 2006 is done. They have to see what they have for 2007. Saying these guys had their chance and wasted it is the most ignorant thing you can say about young ballplayers.
  18. A typo would be Carlas, Chris is a completely different word. The Cubs provide a lot of stuff to rip.
  19. Dusty would have kept Monroe out there, and made excuses for him, because he's been in the league for 6 years, which is all that matters to Dusty, and he's approaching 30. If it was a younger player Dusty would have talked about how many young mistakes they make.
