  1. I didn't phrase it quite that way this morning, but I did ask about it. Got a long, "blah, blah, blah" answer. The kid needs to pitch _ somewhere. What are we on, day 13 of his rest period? 11 games off? Gotta love the 7 man bullpen.
  2. That Nevin kid just needs a little more development and he'll break right out of this slump.
  3. I think people just like to point out some things that get overlooked in the "let's bash Matt Murton" fun.
  4. Was it a bad throw or bad catch? Koskie stole on him earlier, now Lee. Not a good game throwing out runners.
  5. I thought Pierre was 4-3! I though Jenkins 4-3 means Jenkins popped out to center.
  6. You bunch of failures.
  7. Why does he have to be criticized? He's a young guy who has been screwed over by management because of the unforgivable sin of struggling in his first extended stay in the majors. Maybe if the Cubs had the brains to play him full time last year he could have gotten beyond this point, or we could know more about him. But the guy came into this season with some nice numbers and a good approach. He was criticized by management when things were going well for not being aggressive enough, and now he's struggling mightily. Not to mention he's being asked to come off the bench.
  8. There's a lot of other guys who hit garbage like that who don't ride the bench.
  9. Bad results, but by all accounts, he seems to be coming along. You wouldn't expect him to be all that sharp, with the limited number of outings he's had this year. He obviously fooled a lot of guys, but he must have left too many hittable pitches over the plate, which happens when you're control isn't on. Looks like a nice outing to build on, even though the outing itself wasn't good.
  10. Yeah, and it's really going to my head. Just looking out for you. Not trying to rain on the Bruce Miles fan club  No problem, Derwood. Actually, I wasn't trying to be funny there. I was just trying to point out an essential truth about Chicago Cubs baseball. And nope, no anal pun intended there. I know you weren't, that was why I questioned it being quoted (by the original poster) in the first place. Keep fighting the good fight boy - you would have thought there is no sarcasm anywhere on this board anymore. Bruce - I know that you were not trying to be funny, but stating the fact. The reason why I thought it was funny is that it is so obvious to all of us that do "honor" the OBP as a real statistic while other people (who make out lineups) do not see the importance of having guys in the #2 spot with higher OBP. that is all - sorry if you did not find it a bit humerous. I did and I guess I have a funny sense of humor then... http://www.brendoman.com/images/slingblade.jpg Funny haha, or funny queer?
  11. some guy on Cincy
  12. Was it as lame as my favorite, Nirvana, Half the Man I Used to Be in any reference to John Wayne Bobbit? STP I'm an idiot. I googled the song and Nirvana came up and I just thought it must have been them.

  14. Gonzalez is only 31? I could have sworn he retired about 8 years ago.
  15. Yeah, and it's really going to my head. Before you know it he's going to be on Around the Horn. I'm not sure that comment constitutes "extreme worship," Goony. :hail: :hail: :hail: :hail:
  16. I think it's no more than covering their butts. I don't think either signing is out of spite, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of message in there. Bears players don't really have a leg to stand on if they say they don't take care of their own. Some "expert" accused the Bears of that and it just doesn't hold water. They extend guys all the time. They signed Jones as a free agent when he knew ATrain could steal some of his time, and now that Benson can do the same he can't really complain. If he didn't want the multi year deal, he shouldn't have taken it. And they tried to resign Briggs, but it doesn't make much sense to give him more than Urlacher. They are at risk of being very thin at LB, and locking up Hunter, for what I am going to assume is a reasonable amount of money, helps to deal with that issue.
  17. make me an offer
  18. Yeah, and it's really going to my head. Before you know it he's going to be on Around the Horn.
  19. No, Abreu is more productive. You don't know what production means? I'll give you a hint, I'm not talking about AVG/HR/RBI.
  20. I disagree. God would not have Neifi playing almost everyday and batting 2nd. But my point is that they would not be a good team if Neifi never started. They are just not very good. But they could be better.
  21. Didn't someone once post a link to a lineup simulator that estimated runs scored based on a given lineup? We might even be able to prove it. A statement like "because he's more productive," when stated by itself with nothing else is one of the most useless statements ever to attempt to prove a point. They mean absolutely nothing and frankly, are just stupid. I wasn't agreeing or disagreeing with you Geech, I just wanted to know where the statement came from and if you had anything to back it up. If you do, great post it and prove me wrong. I would like that and would change my view if this was true. I'm glad you find it stupid. It's just fact though. Not opinion. I didn't realize we had to go back and start over with the discussion of what exactly production is.
  22. It's not that I'm adamantly opposed to Carlos Lee. I just disagree strongly with people who insinaute he's a no brainer. My baseball related attention span has shrunk a lot this year, so I'm not sure what is available. But I wouldn't have a problem trading assets to fill a corner OF spot. While it's nice to only spend cash, and keep players, when signing a free agent, you have to look at the other costs. Are you trading for a guy with only a couple years left on a deal who won't kill you financially down the road? Are you trading for a guy from a team that would be willing to take back some garbage like Rusch or Neifi that is already killing you? There's a lot more to look at than just, he's the biggest name corner OF free agent, let's get him.
