  1. Walker watches a blistering 87 mph fastball go by for strike one, then hits a Pierre on 1-1 count.
  2. From the BBC site: "Thirteen of Italy's World Cup-winning squad play for the clubs involved, with five at Juventus, who also number Patrick Vieira, Lilian Thuram, David Trezeguet, Pavel Nedved and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in their ranks. Many of them are expected to seek transfers to other leading clubs in Italy or Europe to limit the damage to their careers. "
  3. 41,000? I know attendance is based on tix sold, but there aren't 41,000 there. I've seen a lot of empty seats since the beginning of the game.
  4. deep right center? Try again Mr. Announcer-man.
  5. Rain delay. The season on the other hand........
  6. Football equivalent of what Hendry is doing. GM wants to build his team based on team defense, and he really wants to focus on stopping the run. So, he goes out and gets the biggest fattest d tackles he can find, to plug up the holes. He notices that teams are just running outside and pasing deep, so he finds the biggest D ends and linebackers he can find, because if big fat tackles can stop the inside run, big fat backers and ends should stop the outside run. When teams keep running on them, he just keeps looking for bigger and fatter players. Offensively, he wants a QB that has won big before, so he signs all the Heisman winning/contending QB's who have played for winners. All of a suddent Eric Crouch, Jason White and Chris Weinke constitute your QB depth chart. The RB is a 33 year old former rushing champion who has had 4 knee surgeries and hasn't rushed for 1000 yards in 3 years. The receivers are all extremely tall, and very fast, but they can't catch the ball. To counteract what he thinks is the best defense possible, big fat lineman, he finds himself 5 of the biggest fattest O lineman out there. His RB keeps getting injured, and the lineman all need major knee surgeries since they can't support their own weight. And the team just keeps getting worse and worse. To combat this freefall he vows to find bigger, fatter lineman, a real champion QB in Vinny Testeverde, with Gino Torretta and Danny Wuerful to back him up. And he gets a RB who backed up the RB on last year's Super Bowl team.
  7. This should last about 5 minutes. http://www.weather.com/weather/map/60613?clip=686&region=null&collection=localwxforecast&presname=Chicago,%20IL%20Forecast&name=index_large_animated&day=1 http://image.weather.com/web/radar/us_ord_closeradar_plus_usen.jpg
  8. He's probably a better hitter than any of the guys who would have gone up there, Mabry or Perez. Plus, "I've got to save my bullpen man."
  9. Ronny with a quintessential swing at the pitcher's pitch. A breaking ball that dropped out of the zone and he flails at it. The inability to take bad pitches is killing this franchise.
  10. I wanted that to be true, and so I went back and looked at the reply several times-unfortunately, Nady made contact with the bag, as he was sliding by he reached out and barely touched the bag, you can see his hand reaching out and then changing angles slightly because it hit the bag-but just the very end of his fingers. Still, though, that was out there enough to definitely be questionable, but he did hit the bag. I don't know what you are talking about. The Mets guys even changed their story to "he hit the bag" to "he could have hit the bag". He did not touch the base.
  11. askthebooth@sny.tv Email Hernandez and heckle his lying butt.
  12. Hernandez is a dirt ball. He's claiming Nady was able to touch the bag but he was nowhere near it. Watching the replay he said, "we'll see if he can tough the bag", and prior to the guy actually getting to the bag he said "yep he got it" even though the picture clearly showed he didn't get the bag. Then later on another replay he said "close enough".
  13. From what I read you don't have to be. It's about supporting the community.
  14. FYI, the great 2nd half start by Maddux is coming to a screaching stop. LoDuca, Beltran, Wright hit singles. Floyd doubled. Nady is getting the IBB treatment. 3-2 Mets, bases juiced 1 out. Woodward & Bernstein coming to the plate.
  15. I think the ESPYs are on afterwords Oh, I thought it had something to do with the Gay Games or something. I know the closing ceremonies are supposed to be held at Wrigley. The what?! http://www.gaygameschicago.org/ceremonies/c-venue.php
  16. I'm not sure I'd trade Aramis for Abreu straight up, let alone throwing in Marshall, Jones, and cash. Abreu is 32, has seemingly lost his power stroke (8 homers this season), and has probably peaked. Aramis is 28 and probably has not yet peaked and plays a position that I think is more difficult to replace (I don't think Koskie is a good option there). I forgot that's another part I didn't like. That sounds like you are severely discounting Ramirez.
  17. slappy eased one over to short Walker popped to left Lee doubles to rc (Beltran cut it off but too late).
  18. I know the Beatles are officially better and will win in a landslide. But if I was getting in my car and you offered me the chance to listen to one or the other, I'd take the pumpkins.
  19. FYI, for those that didn't see, 1-2 double to left field. Pagan looked confused. It hit off the wall about 6-7 feet up, then rolled away from him. LoDuca moves him over to 3rd and I think the Cubs are high fiving him in the Mets dugout.
  20. That's just Maddux being Maddux. If Murton made that play he would be getting ripped for his defense.
  21. And at the end of 2006, Klinsmann will be just about done with his 6 month break. :D Credit must be given to Arena. He has had a fantastic career at every level of soccer in the US. That said, I welcome the change. Who or what funds US soccer? Do the MLS owners invest in it? Does a private benefactor provide the resources? Is revenue strictly based on earnings from tickets sold to games and bonues for qualifying for the WC? Are their just a bunch of dirty commies who want to ruin our country by infiltrating our sports world with this depressing sport? :P Ok, Senator Kemp. :P That speech of his on the Senate floor is hilarious to read after all this time. I think the USSF gets the majority of their operating monies from Nike, Adidas and Puma. The rest comes from other sponsorships, and then would come ticket and merchandise sales. I don't think MLS would pay into USSF. I'd bet if anything it was the other way around. And, of course, I'm assuming that you mean US Soccer the entity rather than USSoccer the poster. Unfortunatly, Nike, Adidas and Puma do not fund me. :D Why didn't I think about the Nike/Adidas/Puma sponsors?
  22. It would be blacked out in any area where Cubs or Mets broadcasts would be able to cover, even if your system doesn't have that channel. ESPNnews is on ESPN right now because the game is on SNY (the Mets new channel).
  23. The Mets channel's studio guys have "thrown it out to Wrigley field" about twenty times so far without actually showing anything related to the game. They were talking about the Yankees 2nd half about 10 minutes ago.
  24. Why in the "bleeeeeeeeeeeep" does this idiot insist on playing guys who don't have along term future with the Cubs. Play Murton already you moron. I think you got to give Pagan and Murton a shot. Both show promise. Pagan hasn't shown a thing. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs thought he had a long term future with the team. They like unproductive athletes.
