Using your best pitcher to try assure you get more than a game 163 or WC play in game is "galaxy brain?" Yes. Especially vs Derek Holland and because the other team needed to win to tie you. Hey it looks like a bad decision worked out but it doesn’t make it less dumb. It also saved your best pitcher for a true elimination game if needed (163 or WC). Sorry man, your line of thought is dumb as horsefeathers.

If they didn't think he'd provide continuing value they wouldn't have offered him a job and wouldn't have committed to creating the role in the first place. The Cubs clearly wanted this guy and lost out on him to a division rival that also stole the one good pitching mind they had in the organization. It's a loss. Why do you think Boddy went to the Reds over the Cubs? More power.

Why? If they win this one they go directly to the DS and Flaherty can still pitch twice in that series if it goes 5. He’s on normal rest also. Facing Holland, Brewers still need to win, just throw someone else out there and save Flaherty for a 163 or WC game potentially. But likely get to use him game 1 of the DS. Also if he went game 2 and 5 he’d be on short rest for game 5. You do everything you can to avoid a game 163 or WC game.

You do realize our #4 prospect according to you, Montero, just put up a .552 OPS and K'd in 29.8% of his PA over a full season of AA ball, right? The farm lacks high end upside outside of maybe 3 players. You realize he was injured all year, right? I live a half hour from Springfield and catch a pretty good amount of games. He was playing poorly before the injury ( a .681 OPS in Springfield is not good) and even worse after.

That's one of those 'everyone has been talking about this potential upset so long that I'm almost certain it won't come close to happening' games, like when everyone's trendy March Madness upset pick goes down in flames. I don't think there will be an upset, but Army is good at grinding out long drives, so the game could very well be closer than 22 points That’s what I was getting at.
