    The upsetting part of this is that Marshall was basically handed the fifth starter slot and couldn't hold it down. "Decent" would have been good enough. Now Hendry had to go out and trade for Trachsel who is just about as bad as Marshall if not worse, and who won't even make the postseason roster. I was really pulling for Marshall during last offseason and most of this season but his struggles really screwed this team.

    Ya know, after posting the topic I thought the exact same thing. I don't want to take anything away from the accomplishment but both teams played poorly. Game 2 of the dh was as bad as I've seen the team play fundamentally in a while. Yesterday's game should have been 9-0 by the fifth but poor hitting/patience with runners on (again). But that being said, Cardinal fans are the most obnoxious in the NL and come a close third to Boston and NY. Any time the Cubs can put them away AND take the season series, I applaud. It should not be enough to take the series from the Cardinals though. Gotta put the Reds, Bucs and Fish away to make the playoffs. Can't count on the Brewers to lose, the Cubs have to go out and get it. They should expect every game to be tough. Two of three from the Bucs and Fish Four of six from the Reds Anything less (barring a clinch otherwise) is a failure.

    At times I feel like Cubs fans are too critical. Justifiably so. But the Cubs went into St Lou and took three of four. The cards are now 7 back with 12 to play so they're effectively out of the race. The Cubs did exactly what they needed to do and stuck a fork in their primary rivals' collective season. Nice job Cubbies, very well done. =D> Now go get the Reds and stake a claim in the 2007 playoff picture.

    If Thome played for the Red Sox or Yankees, he would be a first ballot HOF'er. As it is he played for Cleveland, Philly and the WSox. 500 HR's is nothing to sneeze at so I think he makes it. I think he has a couple good years left too. Nice job Thome. I just wish you didn't play for a jerk manager and horses arse owner.

    Occasionally I'll be able to pick up Brewer games while traveling through Wisconsin to see my parents. Uecker sounds like he's bored or doing a crossword puzzle or something. Partly because he's working along most of the time. Uecker: Aaaaand that's a ball low and away. <20 second pause> Uecker: Aaaaaand that'll load em. What happened in between there Bob, I missed at least one pitch and you never said who was at bat?

    I want to see what Soto can do in the major leagues. I'm not against extending Kendall as long as Blanco is DFA'd or traded. Soto should get a shot.

    Unlike the Cubs, the Cardinals have four guys come up each year and look like Hall of Famers. They signed Tony Womack the year after he stunk for us and he even looked like an all star. jeff weaver, bo hart, fernando tatis, etc. I know. Weaver friggin kills me. KILLS ME!!!!!!! How was he good with the Cards and absolutely terrible EVERYWHERE ELSE?????
