  1. But like I said, he is seeing the names of the other cheaters being slowly released and probably saw the writing on the wall. There is no honor is admitting to something right before you're caught.
  2. I'm not sure we should be patting him on the back. He likely knows that he was doing roids at the time of testing and has seen other named be released. All he is doing is revealing his name before it gets leaked which he feels is probably inevitable at this point. Give him credit for being "honest" if you want, but the fact remains, he cheated the game I love - for money. "Good Job!"? I don't think so.
  3. BeerPrediction: RSox get Halladay, Cubs get Teahen
  4. +1 He has been exposed this year for certain.
  5. That missed attempt at the suicide squeeze was awful. Maybe Lou shouldn't have made the call in the first place, but I liked in in that situation and it caught everyone off guard. Fontenot HAS to make contact there, foul it off, something, you don't just leave the winning run walking into a tag. Terrible execution there by Fontenot.
  6. If I were a gambling man I would bet you are right. We will never know though.
  7. Per ESPN 1000-Bruce Levine Due to sleft shoulder soreness.
  8. 2006 and it's not even close. Yea, nothing will ever be as bad as 2006. Ever. that was bad but not frustrating. the cubs were horrible and nobody cared about them by mid to late may. now 2004, THAT was frustrating. April of 2006 was fine but after starting May 2-12, yeah, that season was a lost cause. It sucked, but wasn't frustrating. This year and 2004 have both been the most frustrating season since I've been a Cubs fan. Agreed
  9. I'm tempering my enthusiasm as it was a nice four game sweep, but it was against the Nats. To me this series highlighted the shortcomings of the Nationals (pitching and defense) more than it highlighted the strengths of the Cubs. I am pleasantly surprised at the bullpen though - other than the Heilman inning yesterday the pen pitched well and has really picked it up lately. There must be something that they love in Patton as it seems that they are trying very hard to keep him. It was nice to see Soriano pit the ball hard, maybe he is starting to come around. Likewise for Fontenot. Theriot continues to impress me as well - nothing too flashy but I love the OBP in the 2 hole.
  10. Must've been something about his personal demeanor. Don't know why they'd DFA a guy with those numbers so far this year... maybe it was a Luis Vizcaino type situation? Did I miss something? What was the "Luis Vizcaino Situation"?
  11. Yup - he should have been taking until he had at least one strike, maybe even two.
  12. Are you saying there's a hole in the basket? Well, it looked the ball *may* have fallen behind the basket. For all the times I've been in the bleechers, I've never sat right on along the wall, in the first row. I wonder if there is a little gap where the fence hooks to the bricks.
  13. Maybe not an ace, but still a very good pitcher. Who completely loses it as soon as he lets somebody on base. He really doesn't though. He'll get frustrated, but he doesn't unravel. Along with Careless' numbers, Z has allowed a .529 OPS with RISP and a .540 OPS with men on in his career. He also has allowed a career .445 OPS with the bases loaded. There was a sequence when he walked off the mound and behind for several seconds with his back turned to home working the ball. He looked pissed and I wonder if he and Hill are not on the same page.
  14. When you factor in the depth and angle of the basket as well as the height of that fly ball, I honestly think Fox's double was a homer. I have HD and the broadcast looked like it was gone.
  15. My family and I passed Dunston walking the streets of St. Louis after a game. One of the biggest [expletive] ever. He was my favorite player growing up until that day. Details? These stories always make me laugh and cry at the same time. Some of my childhood heroes were/are complete jerks as people. At the end of each little league season there would be a "banquet" which was basically dinner for families. There was always an athlete that would speak. Former Cubs catcher Barry Foote was one of the speakers. During the dinner (while he was eating) a friend of mine and I approached him for his autograph. I'll admit now that it was pretty rude on our part, but he cursed us out enough to make my friend cry. I was 8 and a catcher on our team, he was my hero before that encounter.
  16. There may be some here talking about the "lead off" position as it applies to batting first...however, there are many others who understand that the higher you are in the line-up, the more at-bats you get. A player who is in a dreadful slump, should get less at-bats in a game. Thank you. Agreed. Half way through the season and Soriano has been terrible. He needs to move down in the order and I think this was a good move by Lou.
  17. Why? When was the last time he put together back to back very good seasons? He's an inconsistent soon-to-be 33 year old pitcher who can get hit hard quite frequently. The only thing inconsistent I'm seeing from Vazquez is his ERA. He's had very good K:BB ratios, more than 200 Ks, low HR/9, and high K/9 over the past few seasons. And he's very hittable, plus he's 33 already. He's been a nice pitcher, but trading Fielder anywhere close to straight up for him would be a horrible idea. Which is why I'm 100% behind this trade idea.
  18. I'm wondering if his bat is worth putting up with poor defense at 2B.
  19. Agreed, and use Blanco for late inning defensive replacement at second. Fontenot has fallen apart at the plate and his error tonight made it seem like he is a walking ghost out there.
