  1. Muscat had an article saying that his issues were actually related to allergies. Olt was quoted as saying that his vision was back to normal with his new (long-term) medication. It is Muscat so take that with a significant grain of salt.
  2. It's weird, but it's always a bit of a shock to me to see a player who I've always thought was white be black, based only on name. C.J. Edwards, Donald Veal, Chris Archer, etc. There's so few African American players out there that it's always a "Oh wow" moment when you finally see a picture of a player who you've only tracked the numbers of. Can't believe you guys didn't know that. Who gives a [expletive] what color his skin is or where he's from?
  3. There was an article a few weeks ago about WGN Radio opting out of the agreement and wanting to renegotiate with the Cubs. There was discussion about the losing decreasing the audience and impacting radio revenues. The Cubs are open to negotiate with another radio station. After 2014 the Cubs may be entirely off WGN altogether (radio and TV). Whatever works to increase revenue and payroll.
  4. I made the same mistake. "Please keep the games on WGN, I need to see the games in " (for free like I always have, I don't care about the competitive landscape)
  5. Well, a lot of it goes into revenue sharing but that's more or less right. The norm on TV deals is 34% goes to MLB, the team keeps the rest. In the Dodgers case, they're pocketing around 6 billion of their deal. 64% of $280M is still close to $180M. Assuming the same % for the Cubs deal nets and that them $32M which is 6 times less than the Dodgers take. Their TV deal is the reason the Dodgers have so much money to go after every FA. Sorry if this is/was obvious to everyone else already. I never ran the numbers before and this difference is staggering to me. Ricketts took over a steaming pile of crap on many levels.
  6. Well, a lot of it goes into revenue sharing but that's more or less right. I forgot about revenue sharing so you're probably right. Still, that is three times the amount of the Cubs/WGN current deal. I would assume that the Dodgers deal is near the top of the market. Does anyone have a picture of what the Yankees bring in with the YES network? I'm betting that the Cubs deal is near or on the bottom. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/dodgers-could-be-last-team-to-strike-gold-with-local-tv-deal/ If you scroll down, you'll see everyone's deals broken down in a chart. Thanks for that link. There is a pretty shocking disparity between the large and small market teams. The Dodgers are the highest at $340M with the Marlins at the bottom with $18M. The Cubs are right in the middle at $50M which seems wrong for a large market team with a large fan base around the country.

  8. The numbers quoted in that article can't be right. The Dodgers got $7B for 25 years from Time Warner Cable? $280M per year? That can't be right.
  9. I love the timing of the comment - "No idea why they're holding him on", and the incredulous, somewhat cocky laugh right before he gets picked off ending the game.
  10. That's just ridiculous. I think Ozzie would be a nice asset as a 3rd base coach. Please explain.
  11. I will amend my statement from a few days ago and say that if Ozzie Guillen is coaching with the Cubs in any capacity, I'm done. They guy is an attention seeking whore and whoever is coaching the team will spend as much time dealing with Ozzie, Oney, tweets and the media than he will teaching or coaching what actually matters.
  12. After reading the article that Muscat wrote about Olt, I'll go with him. For the pitcher, I'll go with Z.
  13. I've said it a dozen times on this site....Bruce Levine has no inside sources, he has no information. Maybe Renteria gets the job, maybe he doesn't. Either way, Levine is the worst.
  14. What's worse than Ozzie Guillen as manager? Guillen as manager and Harrelson as play-by-play announcer. :-&
  15. I have no idea why you're even slightly worried about this (nor where you got the impression that he could be). It's only slightly more likely than Jose Canseco getting an interview. There is an article on BN and Guillen was quoted by Mooney as openly campaigning for the role.
  16. (puts hand on bible) If Ozzie Guillen is even given an single interview, I am done as a Cub fan. I can take the losing (provided there is reason for hope). I can take the near constant crap from non-Cub fans (and Cub fans). What I refuse to deal with is even the notion that Ozzie [expletive] Guillen could be the next manager of the Chicago Cubs. If that happens, I'm out.
  17. Beaz Bryant Almora Soler
  18. Agreed. Good value as well.
  19. The quotes from Hal Steinbrenner sound a lot like they are getting impatient with Girardi, and have made their last "fair" offer.
  20. Has it been confirmed that both will start the year in Iowa?
  21. It depends on what the "hate" is about. If it's racism then bring it up immediately, don't hold it in reserve as a ready made excuse when you're fired. If it's hate because he sucks at his job, lets his players abuse the media, doesn't understand statistics, then never.
  22. Yeah, as much as I hate Dusty, I have little doubt he's telling the truth. It's not that I doubt him...I know that there's plenty of racist [expletive] out there...but the fact that he brings it up every time he gets fired is just bad timing. It just makes it look like whining/excuse making. ^this And it also has a feeling of "I was fired because I'm black" to it.
  23. Couldn't happen to a better guy. Racist prick.
  24. Couldn't happen to a better guy. Racist prick.
  25. Where did I imply that Soriano was a better sign than Cano would be? What I clearly said to anyone with half a brain is that the Cubs won't sign Cano because of the size of the contract he will demand. If they do get involved, it will be to inflate the price for whopever does sign him. If I'm wrong, I will happily eat my words.
