  1. Did Kyle PM anyone that asked? If not, I'm calling this BS.
  2. Seriously, people need to relax. It's a freaking mascot.
  3. <-- is indifferent
  4. Does that mean solid power, eye and average plus good defense?
  5. Torrez and Leal are in my 30. The other 2 aren't. I don't get the Ben Wells thing at all. And Skulina is the only one of those four in my top 30. Heh. Leal is intriguing to me. He more than held his own in AZ as an 18 year old and had a K/9 of 9.6 (9.0 in 2012). I have no idea what he throws but with those K numbers and what appears to be decent control (1.5BB/9) he is an under-the radar guy that is worth following. I get leaving him off though, given the depth of the system.

At 15 his father would be his legal guardian, but I question how legal it is to sign away someone else's future earnings.
  7. I heard that interview. It didn't go well. Coomer didn't seem "into it", lots of "Ummm" and "you know" and they made fun of him when the interview was over. They speculated that he was a little nervous and didn't know if it would cause issues doing an interview with a competitor station. I wasn't listening closely and it didn't sound that bad to me but Holmes, Spiegs and the producer weren't as kind. It wouldn't surprise me in any way if Coomer refused to do anything else with the score after hearing their discussion after he hung up. The only people more catty about their own kind than radio "personalities" are comedians and teenage girls. Agreed and as I'm thinking about it now it did have a feel of "We're the polished radio hosts - you're a dumb jock who's lucky in his friends" feel to it. Like I said though, I wasn't listening closely and it really didn't sound that bad to me. There are a few hosts (Holmes) on the Score who try to emulate Bernstein - which I find really annoying since Bernstein is a total dick to callers (meatballs and all). I do agree but there are a lot of meatball callers that deserve their treatment. I can tolerate Bernstein, he's at least intelligent, but Boers is horrible. So is Jerkovich on ESPN1000.

Of note though, Coomer did say that he has a radio show in Minneapolis and that his interview was a result of Pat actually requesting they interview his friend Coomer. They have apparently been friends for some time.
  10. Damn people. Lighten up. It's Friday for [expletive] sake.
  11. I don't think it's been expressed enough, but thank you for sharing your rumor-mill knowledge. It doesn't really matter to me connecting actual moves to rumors for some kind of accuracy count, it's a great read either way and puts a little shape around front office thinking. Seconded Where do you get your info Hoops?
  12. My personal feeling -- on a team as bad as the 2013 Cubs, very few should be untouchable. I would listen but it would take a lot to get Wood considering his cost, age and upside. Upside? We've seen it. So you're projecting the rest of his career to be much worse than his 2013? He made something 500-600K last year. He could get worse and still be worth the increase he will get as a first year arb player.
  13. It would have to be an overpay. Like a package similar to what is expected from Samardzija, maybe a little less. Agreed

  15. I can't imagine Wood is on the block. I believe this is the first year he is arb eligible.
  16. So does Brad Ziegler get to decide the max contract somebody suspended for PEDs gets to receive? Or do we need blood from the stone and ban guys for multiple seasons? I didn't say that and honestly I don't know what the answer is. Here is how it looks to me though, I could easily be wrong: Player A is going into the final year of his contract. He decides to take the chance at getting caught and juices up to boost his numbers in that final year. It works but he does get caught. He apologizes and sits for the required 50 games, comes back that season, gets to play in the playoffs and signs a large contract that offseason with another contender. To me, it doesn't seem like the punishment was adequate. Like I said, I could be wrong, but the timing and the results cannot be argued. 50 games is probably not enough but I don't know what is nor do I know if the team, the Tigers in this case, shouldn't be forced to feel some of that pain too.
  17. He did serve his 50 game suspension. He also signed a nice contract after that suspension. I'm playing devils-advocate here, but I think the real question is this - did taking banned substances contribute to the performance that got him that contract? If so, then I would say that the system/penalties aren't effective enough and likely won't stop the next guy, one year from free agency, from doing the same thing. Under the current system, did he pay his penalty? Yes he did. ed: spelling
  18. Agreed. I can handle another year or two of suckiness if it means some sustained success. The only way I bail is if Ozzie Guillen somehow becomes a part of this. Yes, I hate the guy that much. If that does happen, I'll see you whenever he's fired/gone/quits/is institutionalized.
  19. Agreed about Hollandsworth. Why does Masur mean that Sirott is not being considered?
