    Here are their options: 1) MLB team claims him on waivers - Either the Marlins let them have him, work out a trade with that team for him, or pull him back and he can't be waived again. In reverse order of the standings starting with the team's own league (NL in this case) and then the other league, right? And multiple teams can put in a claim but the highest priority either gets a deal done or nothing happens. Correct. So it goes Rockies, Cubs, irrelevant. Given that, I don't see him making it past the Rockies.

    Agreed. Also, weren't the Reds sellers as of earlier today? I know Phillips has been hurt but it seems odd that they would be selling off their parts while picking up a super-utility guy.

    If it isn't ugly already..... Court appears to be the only avenue for resolution, despite Selig urging them to the contrary. Short Summary -- O's are still pissed that they are sharing a market with the Nationals. They are on the same network which is majority owned by the O's. O's were due to start sharing a greater percentage of the TV revenue in 2012 and have yet to pay. Selig provided some degree of "arbitration" which the Nat's won and the O's are ignoring.     Love the deal as is, but I'm curious who the PTBNL becomes. To me, the "or cash" part implies that we shouldn't expect it to be an impact guy and I think Law has basically said as much. Either way, love Russel and McKinney and I hope Bosio can work some of his magic on Straily.

    My best guess is that he will sign for the most money. Period. End of story. His comments about the team-friendly contracts and comments about wanting to go to FA are clear indications that he wants to maximize his deal. I'm not griping, he's perfectly entitled to that and if that comes around, I certainly hope he would consider the Cubs should the money be equal. I don't know of any explicit comments about not wanting to be a Cub due to losing record etc.

    This was my thought as well. You'd have to think that they knew his price back in ST and had to expect that it would only increase this year based on his performance. It does sound like they increased it, by how much we don't know. I think part of what they are battling was Shark's stance on the overly team friend contracts signed by several young players. If Samardzija were to sign a deal for anything under the perceived market value he would be seen as a hypocrite. He's as good as gone and I have a feeling that he will have some unkind words for the front office when he does leave. He, like Garza, will take the small pot-shots at the organization.
