    No way the Cubs go after Cano. I'd love to get the guy but they just got out from under Soriano's huge contract and I highly doubt they jump at the first chance to sign another one considering where they are with the rebuild.

    Agreed on all points BUT....they do (or did) interview Len Kasper every week and that alone was well worth listening to them in my opinion. Especially when you consider the alternatives if you don't have XM or Pandora in your car (like me). The afternoon guys on The Score have grown on me a little (HATE Boeres or however he spells it) but they are the best of the terrible alternatives. I really need a new car.

    So the firing wasn't about wins/losses. Sveum excelled at game planning, defensive alignment....he was dealt a bad hand...etc Does this boil down to poor bullpen management, the lack of development for Castro, Shark and Rizzo, and poor on base skills?

    I can't remember, do they have any restrictions for trading their bonus pool, other than the normal ones every team has? It doesn't appear so, although MLB has been known to either not mention rules or make them up as they go. Since we observed a trade of a minor league player for pool space, clearly that is ok. A trade of a major league player for pool space would seem unlikely, but I wonder if that is allowed. Does anyone know if they can trade pool space for actual cash? Please correct me here, but the plausible options seem like: 1. Eat the pool space, effectively doing nothing 2. Trade pool space for MiLB player(s) 3. Spread the pool over a large number of lower ceiling players 4. Some combination of the above

    Interesting that his K/9 has only slightly increased. SSS but clearly fewer walks and hits were the keys for him in the second half. BABIP has gone down but not too much to make me think it's too small of a sample. Very encouraging either way. I suppose it should be said that this should have been somewhat expected given his lack of IP in the last two years.

    This thread is why this board sucks. I come back for good discussion and information now and then but generally, I like the term "obtuse" that imb chose above. It's fits a lot of the posters here and is a good reason to go somewhere else.

    The trouble with allergies like that is they tend to get worse with repeated exposure. Today you might get a rash and hives from a beer. Left untreated, at some point down the road that same beer can lead to numbness, breathing trouble, confusion and eventually anaphylaxis which can kill you. I went through that with Advil (ibuprofen).

    Couldn't agree more. Barney is a waste of a roster spot and needs to be gone this offseason. They guy is an out machine. Why he continues to hit second in the order is beyond me.

    According to the Iowa Cubs website, Hendricks is due to make his first AAA start on Thursday against Fresno.
