  1. Do you think he would be a good manager for the Cards? If so, why?
  2. It was Quade's poor handling of the pitching staff that really soured me on him. Agreed and this is the same reason that Riggins needs to go as well.
  3. For the record, I would love to see Ryno as a coach on the 2012 Cubs. 3B coach, fielding coordinator or maybe Castro's personal defensive coach. Put the guy in a position where he can have a positive impact while he gains some experience with the new organizational philosophy. If he buys in, then maybe he gets a shot when Francona retires after winning the 2013 series with the Cubs.
  4. I think you need to differentiate the player from the manager. He was/is one of my favorite players and part of me doesn't want to see him get the job because I think he will fail and I don't want to see him that way. He was a great player, from a different era when bunting worked and the daily double with Dernier helped the '84 team make the playoffs. This is a different age though and baseball has changed. I fear that he has not, have you see his tendencies as a minor league manager? He manages the game as if it was the 80's (giving away too many outs).
  5. For one, Ryno would be a terrible big league manager and I think they know it.
  6. I'd actually get a pretty good laugh out of it, moreso if Theo/Hoyer hires Martinez. Yeah. It would basically be the equivalent of Theo taking the #23 flag down from the flagpole, wiping his butt with it, and running it back up there. Thanks for playing Ryno, but instead of a lifetime of sac bunts, we're going to hire the guy who banged your wife, but isn't a high school manager. Peace. I thought it was Palmeiro that did Ryno's wife.
  7. Buh bye Quade, and take your ridiculous pet names with you. See ya!
  8. As would most reasonable people It was a much more difficult argument to make in 2000/2001. Looking back now I was a fool for taking Woody over Buehrle. No way in hell Buehrle signs with the Cubs. He's going to be a Cardinal.
  9. Anyone remember the arguments of "Wood vs Buehrle - who's better long-term?" back on the espn message boards? Kerry Wood will always be one of my all-time favorite Cubs, but I would take Buehrle over him any day of the week.
  10. Agreed. Hendry did a lot of that type of thing - while thinking that he was making inroads with his and other players. Many of whom were just happy to take the money.
  11. Well said Tim. I couldn't agree more.
  12. Did Grabow's deal expire after 2011? edit: yes, he's a FA
  13. Brett Jackson should be promoted and assume a starting OF spot assuming he does well in ST. I wonder if Dolis will be given a shot. Others?
  14. I read that Selig set an 11/1 deadline to settle the compensation issue with the RSox but i haven't heard anything else. Tuesday is the deadline and if I had to guess I'd be willing to be that it does go the commish to settle this issue. Has anyone heard anything?
  15. Byrd has one more year on his deal, right? If that is true the OF looks like Soriano LF, Byrd CF, Jackson RF or do Jackson and Byrd swap?
  16. If the Cubs pick up his option and Ramirez declines, is there any draft compensation if he sings with another club? I realize that this is different than offering arbitration, but I honestly don't know. I would think that Ramirez would be a type A, right? Even if Ramirez declines his option, the Cubs retain the right to offer him arbitration. That's where the draft pick compensation comes from, same as with any other departing FA. And weirdly enough, last I saw Ramirez was projected to be a Type B... which speaks again to the whole "lumping 2B, 3B, and SS together" thing as far as determining status. Jeff Keppinger is a Type A, for heaven's sake. It would seem to make sense that they will offer him arbitration then, right? If he declines they get an extra pick if he walks but they can still try to sign him.

  18. Darvish isn't a FA though. I think the situation is similar to DiceK with a posting fee (or whatever) is involved. Given his age and effectiveness I think he is going to be priced out of the Nats range. If he does post he almost has to go to a big market team based purely on the cost. Yanks or Angels is my best guess.
  19. I swear I read a blurb a few months back saying the Nationals had zero interest in Prince. It could have been bollocks, and things definitely could have changed, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was true. You're right, probably bollocks.
  20. If I can assume that neither Fielder nor Pujols are in the plans for the Cubs, I want Theo to at least make it look like we're in the running to drive the price up. I don't really see the Cardinals letting Pujols go and the more they spend on him, the less they have to spend everywhere else. Likewise for wherever Fielder ends up.
  21. Brewers get Rollins Reyes stays a Met Pujols stays a tard Sabathia stays a Yankee for more money Wilson is a Cub Fielder becomes an Angel
