  1. ruben quevedo? That's who I was thinking of. baseball-reference has him listed as 6foot1, 190lbs. mmmmkay
  2. Jeff Blauser Ruben Quevedo
  3. From the BA chat: Mike (Chicago): any other cubs that were close to making the list? Jim Shonerd: Junior Lake got some support. He has good actions and a strong arm at shortstop along with bat speed and raw power at the plate, but there were questions about how much he'll be able to hit at upper levels. He doesn't control the strike zone at this point and swings and misses too much. Dan (Chicago): Obviously it's tough to make any top 20 as a reliever but did you hear anything about Aaron Kurcz? Is he still showing the plus stuff he displayed last year at Boise? Jim Shonerd: Kurcz worked as a starter until June, going 2-2, 3.72 before moving back to the bullpen. He was able to touch 93 mph early in outings but wasn't able to hold that velocity. His changeup looked alright but his curveball did not impress.
  4. Flores: .690OPS .310OBP 27BB 68K 9HR 516AB 20 years old in A+ Lake: .680OPS .300OBP 13BB 60K 6HR 242AB 21 years old in AA Look like the same guy to me just one year apart, stats are eerily similar.
  5. The "Five Years Ago" list is interesting and shows the difficulty in projecting prospects. Elbert at #3, Veal ahead of Cueto and Rasmus, Homer Bailey ahead of Braun, Dewitt ahead of Cueto, Garcia and Jurrjens.....
  6. I also gave Quade (and Z) an F. What surprises me more than a Zambrano A is that Coleman got anything above a D from anyone. The guy was brutal. At least Russell was better out of the pen and, in fact, effective when used correctly. Coleman did nothing.
  7. A: Castro, Smardz, Marshall, Garza, Ramirez B: Wood, Cashner, Pena, Russell, Johnson C: Wells, Mateo, LaHair, Carpenter, LeMahieu, Barney, Campana, Soto, Fuku D: Marmol, Byrd, Dempster, Lopez, Soriano, DeWitt F: Hill, Grabow, Coleman, Ortiz, Quade, Z
  8. At the time I did the survey, 34 (4%) thought Coleman deserved a B and 18 (2%) thought Hill deserved an A. Fellow Cub fans, I am disappoint.
  9. No surprises. Didn't Schlitter retire earlier in the season? Berg was brutal, glad to see him gone. Z is as good as gone. Hopefully this clears room for Fielder and Wilson.
  10. Thought we should dig this out now that the regular season is done. I nailed the NLCentral and NLEast but was way off on everything else. I actually picked the Twins and A's -- further proof that I'm a moron.
  11. Just looked up CJ stats....break the bank for the guy 33 starts, 23 quality starts 2.97 era 1.18 whip 72bb 206k in 221 ip plus he's a lefty and 30 years old He's in for a BIG payday this offseason and I sincerely hope the Cubs go after him aggressively.
  12. Doesn't seem wise? Because he's pretty good at a decent price? Those are the exact reasons why I would trade him - he has pretty good value and the return would be significant. If not I keep him. I honestly feel like this team is more than one or two pitchers away from being respectable.
  13. I'd love to get Nolasco, CJ Wilson and perhaps Edwin Jackson as well. I would love to see it but I'm not sure that we should count on Cashner for next season. Shoulder injuries are tough. I would shop Dempster as well. Garza CJ Wilson Dempster/Jackson Nolasco Cashner/Wells/other
  14. Disappointed that DeVoss is that low. I might be alone but Golden doesn't strike me as an impact player. He reminds me of Dopirak who raked at the lower levels and fizzled out.
  15. My feelings exactly. I think he will end up signing with the Cubs though.
  16. Why yes, I do say. It's the cost that makes me think they figured out what they need to charge to remain solvent and went from there. I suspect the Daily Herald is about to start laying off staff akin to what the Sun Times did a couple years ago. They took their sports money maker (Bruce Miles) and made people pay for his content in an attempt to keep themselves afloat and employed. Not a smart strategy but may be the best of their worst options.
  17. What bothers me is the amount they are charging. $20 per month is close to double the price for a 26 week subscription (which includes the delivery and printing costs). Providing the same content online should be cheaper to produce, not more expensive and charging people more for online content when they already receive the paper doesn't sounds equitable either. I'm sure they ran the numbers and came up with a price they feel is necessary given their financial position. I'm sure they know they will lose some traffic if not a LOT of traffic. The only way that is really justifiable is if the online-only content adds to what the paper offers. If that is the case, how do they decide which content to give to the subscribers and which to deliver online without the subscribers feeling short changed? The medium is really the issue. Newspaper readership has been falling for years and it feels like the DH is reacting late to the issue. As a result (perhaps a result of their financial situation) they have created a very expensive program that will likely fail. Bruce Miles is excellent. I hope he finds another employer.
  18. If the Cubs pick up the option and Ramirez declines and becomes a free agent, do the Cubs get a compensation pick in the 2012 draft?
  19. typo in title - mods can you fix?
  20. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-ramirez-declines-to-meet-with-ricketts-20110921,0,1977249.story If the Cubs pick up the $16M option and Ramirez declines, do they get a supplemental pick in the 2012 draft?
  21. Never heard of a rival not wanting to give up a milestone? It's not a big deal and I only point it out because I know there are Brewer fans reading this right now.
  22. They walked him twice today. I prefer to think the Brewers didn't want to see a Cubbie do something nice at home while they're on the field. It's not unheard of by any means.
