I said all along they had to win a series to really capitalize on the momentum they've built. I still think that is the case. Everything from here on out is gravy. As long as they don't embarrass themselves this round, it's not going to hurt them to lose it. They were the 4th best team in the conference and made it to the final four of the conference. They played exciting hockey, won three home playoff games and generally fulfilled all the promise they had. Obviously winning this series and matching up with Detroit would be a tremendous boost, but they are still in line to improve going into next year and take the next step. Really, though, the Blackhawks were the 3rd best team in the conference, two poor performances against the Canucks notwithstanding. These are two pretty evenly-matched teams, with the Blackhawks having been the far better team in the first half of the season, and the Canucks having been the better team in the second half of the season. Yeah, the Hawks did finish with four more points than Vancouver.
