I did notice that... I bet you the PP scoreboard was malfunctioning or something. They do that in the NBA when the shot clock is down. Yeah I didn't think about that. Could be. Will have to pay attention to if they do it when the Blues have a PP.

Jesus the defense fell asleep on that shift. Barring stuff like that, this team can't play with us.

Yeah everyone expected it, they just couldn't score the first 20 games or so. They beat Calgary last night -- they can play. But they need good bounces and real hard work because they aren't as talented as the top teams.

Oh yeah, Janssen will try to goad Eager into a fight. Eager tends to duck him, but Fraser will probably step in and get an ass whipping for his effort. No reason for the Hawks to fight though. It can only fire up the Blues at this point. The disparity in talent between these teams is obvious.

Campbell! Like it. Pepper Conklin every chance you get. And as an aside, did you notice the Honda saying "1:30 left on the power play," then "1:00" and then ":30"??? I've never heard them do that before at any game.

Yeah the Blues are playing tougher than I thought they would, but they can't clear their zone.

Ugh, CSN blacked out tonight here so I have to watch on FSNMW. At least they have Panger now as a color guy to somewhat cover for Kelly's annoying style.

First game of the season against the Blues tonight. Blues got a rare home win against Calgary last night. Mason started in goal last night, so likely Conklin tonight. But many Blues fans are arguing Conklin has played better and should be the starter, so this probably isn't a good break for the Hawks. The Blues had success against the Hawks last year with a very hard 2-1-2 forecheck. I don't think it will be as successful tonight because our d-men are better than they were last year. 4-2 Hawks, and not just because I want to win the bets I put down at the bar last night.

Not nearly as much as the explanation/excuse. Lovie sounds desperate, maybe his job is on the line. Either that or he's so secure about returning that he just doesn't care about trying anymore. How pissed off should we be, since it's obviously the latter?

Yeah because the refs kept TB from getting even a sniff of a real scoring chance last night. I would think TB would be able to attract some decent canucks to call their games and enjoy the nice weather. Guess not.

Weidemann yelled his goal call and then took it back. Great win. Good job Niemi. Keeps elbowing in for more playing time. Can't argue.

PENALTY SHOT for Brouwer! Denied. I don't think the shootouts have done anything to diminish the excitement of penalty shots. Glad we didn't need that one.

Anybody have any thoughts on Torbush and Long. I'm ashamed to say I don't know much about either. I don't either, but I am very happy to see Gill bringing in experienced guys. I agree that it's a letdown after we thought we had a shot at Harbaugh. But I've had a lot of people (mostly Mizzou fans around here) saying all along that they really hoped we didn't hire Gill because it would be very good for KU football. So let's give him a chance. We get the weaker South draw next season but a tougher non-con that usual. Pick better be ready to roll. I know Opurum will be.

There's only one way to really find out, and unless Huet tanks at some point this season it's not going to happen. But in this role, yeah, he's outstanding. But he's benefitting from the same great defense Huet is getting. Tonight he's only seen 14 shots through two periods. And I'm only on the radio so I can't tell, but I haven't heard that he's made more than one really great save.
