  1. Jesus Brouwer, you have to bury chances like that. That's what I'm talking about with him. Just terrible.
  2. We can't expect Huet to keep us in every game until the offense gets its act together. He's not good enough.
  3. I know what you're saying, but with a point per game, you can't really blame him. It's Sharp, Brouwer, Versteeg who aren't doing [expletive].
  4. Hawks are just a little off. I think Q needs to put Kane back with Toews and Hossa. Buffalo is a good team and they are playing like it.
  5. I still don't get why the fans of teams Campbell played for feel compelled to boo him. You want him back? Please?
  6. Good PP, too much pressure. Bound to happen.
  7. Wow, some rough shifts early on here. And now Sharp...wow, he didn't do much. Nice acting, Montador.
  8. Wasn't he very close to being traded last year too? I don't know if that was the case last year, as he was really the only big body option and they didn't have a cap issue then. But contrary to what some are saying, I thought Buff was great in the early going this year, maybe a dozen or more games, and then he disappeared more recently. Although I was at the Pitt game and he was all over the ice, so maybe it's a TV perception thing. I've wondered about the TV thing. But I pay close attention to the effort the guys give when they are forechecking and backchecking, and for the most part you can see that on the TV feed if you are looking for it. And his effort just isn't there waaaaaaaaayyy too often. He waves his stick at the d-man breaking out and then circles around and lumbers back to the defensive zone to take up his spot covering the point man. And then repeats that again and then goes for a change. By contrast, watch how Ben Eager flies around the ice. Sure, he's not nearly as talented and has a different role, but he's always busting it. And he creates chances with his effort.
  9. He was a problem. And then the team really kicked their play into high gear. How many times during a game these days is Huet really challenged and forced to make a great save? I can think of maybe once during the NYR game. They play fantastic defense. Even the wingers (save for Kane and Buff and probably Kopecky) backcheck really well. I'm not saying Huet doesn't deserve credit for getting his act together, but it's not like he's facing 40 or even 30 shots every game.
  10. Miller not starting tonight for Buffalo. Think Ruff doesn't want his star goalie to get shell-shocked? :D http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2009/12/blackhawks-avoid-nhls-top-goaltender-tonight.html Instead we get the craptastic Patrick Lalime.
  11. Because his velocity isn't what it once was. There were too many starts last in which he was strong at one point and then dropped off the next start. Harden definitely has something wrong either on his shoulder or elbow, he's become a two pitch pitcher and he's not affective if his fastball is hitting 89 because his changed up is at 85 so there isn't much drop off. Fair enough. But there isn't any diagnosis.
  12. So he thinks all he has to do is put in a few years, regardless of whether he shows any acuity for the job at all, and his name will do the rest? Eff that.
  13. Ben Sheets!!!!!!!!!! Oh please oh please oh please oh please!!! Sheets would definitely be a nice pick up, i'd rather have sheets than Harden. Both are injury prone and can go on the DL at any given moment but at least when healthy, sheets isn't a 5 inning pitcher. Exactly! Plus, Sheets has had the surgery. Harden has not had the surgery. Wait, so coming off surgery is better than not coming off surgery? If you assume Harden needs surgery. Why is that assumed?
  14. I am starting to see a pattern here. Mystery team.
  15. That's what we need, another sim game superstar.
  16. Another article I read today alluded to the fact that Buff worked really hard to keep himself in shape this offseason, which I can see being a struggle for him, because he really wants to play on the U.S. Olympic team. Just the same, if the first 20+ games of this season is his idea of max effort, it's time to get him out of town.
  17. Rosenbloom's thoughts on the state of things: http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/rosenblog/2009/12/hawks-breathtaking-and-breathtakingly-good.html Not to piss on the parade or anything, but part of the reason we were so shocked at Buff's speed on that rush last night is because he doesn't show it very often. He almost has a bit of that Derrek Lee " I don't really care about this job" look to him at times. The difference is that Buff also skates half-hearted like he doesn't care way too often. Now we know how fast he is, and I wonder why he's only like that on one shift per game, if that.
  18. It's a pretty stupid one. Does it always have be about race. Maybe it's just about Bradley being a petulant ass while in Chicago, just like he's been his entire career. This really just needs to be done with. Not because the team will be better or worse with or without him, but because he is too much of a mental midget to deal with the situation like an adult. It's only stupid if you don't know what is being said. I never said hating Milton Bradley makes you racist. I never said wanting him gone makes you racist. I never said anything of the sort. I've said repeatedly I think he's an ass. My point is that the mythological creature that is the Cubs fan who would abandon the team due to the presence of Milton Bradley is probably going to be a racist person. It's really not a controversial statement. It makes no accusation about anybody here because I'm fairly certain nobody here is going to abandon the Cubs (even if several people threaten to every season). I'm talking about somebody saying, "I love the Cubs. But Milton Bradley is still on the team so I'm done with the team." A) It's very unlikely to happen. B) That rare creature is probably motivated by racial tendencies. Yes, in that rarest and make-believe of circumstances, your position is not stupid. But even having the argument is.
  19. Sounds like it will be Pat The Bat aferall, and we'll either flip him to an AL team or use him as a really expensive Jake Fox and then sign some garbage like Byrd or Podsednik. ESPN's live chat was saying this speculation was bunk.
  20. For a few seconds that morning I realized I was being sort of mean, being happy the guy died. But he was old, and he had ruined the franchise that I and so many people grew to love in spite of his efforts to drive us away. And as you said, the chance was immediate. Just like we all knew it would be.
