  1. I agree with you when you aren't using those other statistics, but the bottomline that I was tryin to make before I flipped out was that Dunn if put on a better team would be more of a difference maker. I don't consider him one when he is on a team that finished as poorly as the Reds did. Now if the Cubs got him then he probably could be a difference maker because he ads more pop to a team that has pitching unlike the Reds(Paul Wilson, Ramon Ortiz,etc......). So don't get me wrong Vance I just disagree with those statistics(Winshare,Vorp,etc....) and hope that you understand that im not against getting Dunn.
  2. Don't get me wrong I like Walker and would love him at 2. I started this message board because of the trade possiblity for Soriano or Vidro. All I'm saying (and I think most of you are misinterpreting) that Soriano at 5 and murton at 2 looks better than Walker at 2 and Jones at 5. I never was comparing Walker's obp to Soriano's. In fact Walker does have a better obp than Soriano. Although Soriano would not be batting 2 so his obp wouldn't matter so much at the 5 spot when he hit 30 dongs and around 100 RBI's for us. So don't get me wrong if we start the year with walker thats great, but all im saying is I would prefer murton batting 2 and Soriano batting 5 over Walker batting 2 and Jones batting 5.
  3. Im curious to see those rankings in the form of sacrifice:wins. One out man on third your chances of scoring one than hitting into a double play and then having two outs and then not scoring. Im sorry even though I think DLee and Rameriez are great hitters I'd take take my chances with the gaurenteed run then the chance that we might get more if we have two guys on.
  4. Not to be disrespectful, but how many championships have teams who follow Bill James' philosophy won (not including the Red Sox and their 150 million dollar payroll). My statement about sabermetrics not having a place in baseball was obviously hyperbolic. There is some room for these stats, but such complex formulas can be used by some to argue whatever point they try to make. James is obviously a smart man, but I feel he is given much more credit than he deserves. Also it's not because I dont understand these formulas, in fact its the exact opposite.
  5. I dont agree with that philosophy. The White Sox won last year and im pretty sure they were at the top in sacrifices. Sacrificing has been in the league for a hundred years. Time shows it's an effective strategy.
  6. Ok, sorry I somewhat misinterpreted what you guys said. All im saying is I don't think win shares are a valid statistic. I thought that this sabermetric excuse for a stat was used to show Dunn's superiority over D Lee. I misread the point of your post even though I still think stats like Winshare, Vorp, and all the rest of Billy Beane's caculator crap should be left out of baseball. In my personal opinion I dont think that Dunn is a difference maker at least for the Reds. Now if you put him on a team like the cubs that has a pitching staff he could make a difference with the extra pop he has. I apologize about my "run-on setences and gramatical errors" I dont take the time to worry about them on messge boards.
  7. im not comparing the obp of them i know walker can get on base but i think murton or cedeno would be better at doing the litte things like bunting the runner over. I remember that walker is not to great of a bunter. Id like Soriano at 5 not for his obp
  8. i will sorry just disagreeing with his opinion i shouldnt have use those words though
  9. vvmattvv did thats all im sayin just sayin power does not equal difference maker, both teams didnt make the playoffs so really id just base it on there numbers and Lee was better
  10. i think vvmattvv is nuts with is difference maker opinion thats all
  11. your nuts! if because of some weirdo statistic called win shares you are baseing that dunn is more important to his team this Lee then you are [expletive]. Lee was much more important to us then Dunn was for the Reds. Hence we had more wins then them.
  12. I think soriano at 5 and murton at 2 looks better than walker at 2 and jones at 5 i know soriano is bad in the feild, but walker isnt exactly a gold glove second baseman. Plus you also have to realize that soriano can get to alot of balls that walker cant. He also will hit a little worse avg wise, but will hit 20 more dongs which is more important than a 2 hitter that hits .300 but isnt good at advancing the runner. I think that people are paying to much attnetion to the avg of Walker and not him fitting in as a good 2 hitter. Either way Walker isnt bad, but i ust think id rather have a good 5 hitter and a decent two hitter that can move pierre over.
  13. yeah im up for whateva i just was wondering what you guys thought
  14. If BIG MAC gets in even though we know about the roids then he does. I hate to say it, but its true.
  15. i agree with both, but if we dont have to give much to get soriano i dont care about the salary cause we have the money to pay for him

  17. Now I dont have a link to this, but my dad told me over the weekend that he read in the Trib that theres a possiblity if Sosa is healthy and signs with the NATS that we would either get Soriano or Vidro. Now obviously we wouldnt know until after spring training so im not sure if this is true or not. Someone let me know what they heard. I say that Soriano a nice 5 hitter and is about the same in the field as Walker. Vidro a good 2 hitter and better than walker at the 2 spot. I dont know what he is like in the field. On the other hand Sosa is thinking about retirement so if anyone has a link or has heard about this let me know
  18. i hope walker is starting batting 2 and cedeno is starting and batting like 7th or 8th that would be nice.
  19. As far as I see walker should be in our starting lineup batting two as long as theres not deal to aquire a two hitter. Hes much better hitter than both Nefi or Hariston and I'd hate to see us not use his bat in the line up. My friend was telling me in the trib they were saying he is number 3 on the depth chart at 2nd. Please unless we make a deal with him included and get a better two hitter leave him where he belongs.
  20. your like my friend who thinks that every sporting event is rigged
  21. good but i do agree wit you about his numbers he did well
  22. they are all younger and id rather have any of those guys no offense, but he did fill in well last year when we needed him
  23. you definitly like nefi a little bit to much
  24. West Virginia is good at both sports bball and football and so thats why id like it it would look better for the conference
