  1. I think so. He is usually posting things that got posted in other threads, they are just not timely because he hasn’t seen them being discussed elsewhere.
  2. You really need to go to other parts of the site. You make good posts, but they are already being talked about for multiple pages.
  3. Or maybe it is with the hope that it will help them extend Tucker if they bring in a friend.
  4. That would only make sense if each of the players were still great for a bunch of teams around the league. But they have sucked. Do you wish they had signed Baez, Bryant, Russell, Arrieta, and Rizzo to long term contracts? Baez and Bryant are two of the worst contracts in baseball. The only guy who has done much is Schwarber and he’s not that good either. I don’t like our ownership at all and get frustrated with the management team, but the only worthwhile thing the players from the 2016 team could say of interest is that, in hindsight, they all should have been traded by 2018.
  5. Could also be a trade for a third baseman. I don’t have anyone in mind, but I think Shaw gives them the flexibility to move Hoerner if it makes sense. That’s my main point.
  6. What if they use Hoerner in a package to get a good, cost controlled young starter, move Shaw to second, and then have a bunch of money to address third?
  7. I know Moncada provides more slug, and therefore a higher ops. While their career numbers are similar, I feel like the last few years the two of them are trending in different directions.
  8. I’m not. Could be wrong, of course. But I’d like someone who gets on base and hits for a decent average. I know that’s old school and I’m not generally that way, but I think this lineup could use it. Not really interested in a guy who hits .195 with a .240 obp who happens to hit a home run every few weeks. I really like the idea of Solano.
  9. Bruce Levine is on Cubs 360 saying the Cubs are working on a big deal now to bring in a starting pitcher. Then he just added as they were talking about trading minor leaguers that another one or two of their young players will be traded for a starter in the next day or so.
  10. Well now I feel disgraced and shall be discredited.
  11. Seems he should have the eyeballs and bell switched. This is saying eyes bell bombs in New York City. Therefore, he shall feel disgraced and be discredited.
  12. Bleacher Nation has a story about that today.
  13. Might also be that they don’t feel a need to respond to the Red Sox since they had already signed Fried.
  14. I wasn’t super stoked about Crochet. Maybe he’ll be great. Maybe he won’t. He’s been really good for half a season. That’s it. I was always leery of what they might have to give up for him. Much, much more interested in Tucker.
  15. Wolfe also said something along the lines that Jed isn’t wanting to trade Seiya but that it could be possible that a deal happens that is too attractive to pass up. He also said Jed does a great job of communicating. To me that sounds like a big deal could be possible and Jed just wanted to let Wolfe and Seiya know.
  16. I’d say other front offices would know if the Cubs are wanting to trade him.
  17. You really think they haven’t spoken at all about next season yet? You think every time someone starts discussing ideas for next season Jed says, “hey, shut it down! You know we don’t have those discussions until October!” If they have no idea about what they want to do next year until they have their off-season meetings, then things are worse than I thought.
  18. I understand that usually nothing of substance comes from these post season press conferences for a variety of good reasons. But I also feel like this regime—dating back to Theo’s start—has been pretty transparent and has signaled their general intentions for how they are going to approach an offseason. This felt like it was signaling a “stay the course” approach. That approach has led to an average team with no bad contracts (that Jed was sure to point out was a strength). That’s all I’m saying. Seemed like what we’ve been hearing for the past three years.
  19. So you feel his message was different this year than in the past? To me it was the same telegraphing that they have to be intelligent and get lucky like all the good teams are.
  20. I knew he wouldn’t—and couldn’t—be that specific, but it was more of the same intelligent spending crap repackaged in a different message. He doesn’t have to say they are going hard after the top free agents, but he could say they are in a good position as an organization, they have set themselves up nicely for the future, and now it is time to leverage those strengths to build a roster that can be among the best in baseball. But instead he talked about only three teams being projected to win 90 games, that playoff teams all had players perform better than expected, and that internal improvement will be key. Blah, blah, blah.
  21. Yeah I’m surprised anyone would think this is specific to the Cubs. This has been a huge story throughout baseball all spring.
  22. That Cease thing from Levine is all speculation. He suggested it on Cubs 360 this week. His proposal was Ben Brown, Ballesteros, and an “A ball pitcher.”
  23. As has already been noted by others, it was Dave Smith. They also signed Danny Jackson and George Bell that offseason. Bell should definitely count as a big free agent they landed.
  24. I don’t want them to not get him and miss out on others because they waited, but if they get him, who cares if they miss out on others this year? He IS the guy. There will always be guys like Glasnow and Hoskins available. There usually isn’t a guy like Otahni available. You can wait for a guy like him even if you miss out on a couple normal guys.
