Maybe. Maybe not. All we really know for sure at this point is he's coming to the USA. It's been rumored he'll make a decision soon, but no one knows. There is an article where someone writes he will decide by tuesday japan time. But none of us are trusting it since we've been told "by tuesday, within 48 hours, by tonite". So I think none of us are expecting it at any particular time, anymore.

Boy the thread has been on the same page for a couple of days. I'm just excited about Roberts as I am Fukudome. Not because Roberts will be a GREAT upgrade. Just that it's fun getting new players who are actually, you know. Good.

Hendry doesn't see Fukudome's OBP. All he sees is his left handedness. Untrue. He also sees that he has speed and is Japanese. He can also catch the ball. Let's just be glad he HAPPENS to have good OBP, and decent SLG, AVG, and HR.

I know you're speaking of SS. But I don't agree with you on CF and RF. RF for one, we have Murton. Who could have a decent year but he will not be Fukudome good. KFUKU has very good defense on top of better offense. CF you have Pie. And Pie is no guarantee to be anything. So if they do get Figgins I think it's a huge upgrade. 2B is the only one I can agree with you on. I was on Derosa's side ever since I heard of the trade. I'd like him to be our 2B. But if Roberts can put up Derosa #'s + 50 SB I'm still happy with that. So we'll have a somewhat black hole in SS (BTW, it's still much better than it has been in a few years). If we get FUKU, FIG, and ROB I think that's going to be a very good offense. Not only that, maybe we can finally get some stability in the line-up.

And you're counting on an injury free year? I agree with cubbiecolt. Now you'll be getting Roberts/Derosa at bats instead of Derosa/Fontenot/Floyd/Jones at bats. Tell me. Which one would you take?

RF - You have to remember this. Jones and Floyd had a majority of play time at RF. Jones was just horrible, and Floyd while having a couple decent streaks, was below average. The combined SLG for RF had to be just terrible last year. You guys are trying to compare these 2 players on your idea of what Murton would do. Murton isn't getting a fair shot in RF. Just get over it. You have to compare Fukudome to Jones + Floyd and I think the upgrade will be far more than Marginal. 2B - Just take Derosa and add 50 steals. Not a great upgrade. But you have to consider the upgrade of Derosa being the 2B, 3B, RF supersub. He'll be an upgrade over guys like Fontenot, Floyd, and Jones who got alot of at bats last year. It's incredible how last year people were ready to lynch Hendry for "overpaying" for a career year. Now they don't want to upgrade from Derosa. OBP - The added overall OBP I think will be really significant. Because now you've got possible .360 .380 OBP in RF that you can plug into the 2 spot in front of the big boys that already have a high OBP and drive in alot of runs. STABILITY - my #1 reason. Is that you finally have some outfield stability. I liked our IF last year. But I always said we need some stability in the OF. With Fukudome now you atleast have your set guys at LF and RF. Who knows if Pie plays in CF or not. But no more rotating RF and CF. I mean or CF moved to LF, Our RF played CF, Our RF didn't even really have one set guy who you could say "he's our RF'er". It's way more than marginal if you ask me.
