  1. OMG Castro is gonna be fired?  I get what you're saying.
  2. I never hated Hendry, I thought he was a good guy to be the face of the Cubs. I just didn't want him to be the guy building this team for the future. If I'm Hendry, I'm feeling flattered that I'm being replaced by one of the best guys in baseball. Makes me save face a little, atleast I'm not being replaced by some unknown.
  3. Madden, or Maddon, ^^I guess Joe Madden? I have no idea who he is, but from what I have read from posts here, he is still under contract but people seem to regard him very highly. He'd be like a dream catch. So since we seem to be getting all our prime targets, why not shoot for the moon?
  4. But for the first time, I actually feel incredibly confident that we will get Theo's prime target. It all started when Tom went after Theo and got him. The dominoes have been falling in place since then.
  5. Heard it on scr. Matta Batta Cola. Yeah I know it's wrong, but that's how I think of it when I hear it :)
  6. Sorry, have to disagree there. If you look at all of the perennial contenders out there: Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, they have equal parts internal and external. This might be a good philosophy for a small market team, but with a team like The Cubs, you have the money, so spend it. Spending money is never a bad idea to build a winning team, it all depend how you spend that money. I think the key word there is "build". Sure a big name big money guy is great to add as the final guy that gets you over the top. But right now we are in build mode. Meaning we intend to get better year by year, and in the next 3-4 years we could be perennial contenders. I'm just trying to read what he my be hinting at. I don't think he's saying let's never sign some big market guys. I think he's saying, we need more emphasis on building internally.
  7. on kap@ctl My God thank God this guy isn't our GM. If he was our GM he'd just cut Z and Sori and flush that $$ down the toilet. You know what, I'd rather them just play and give us whatever value they can rather than just bad mouth and dump them the way that moron does. WTF is wrong with him. Does he just not like black and brown people?
  8. So how do I catch this press conference I fuckin missed.
  9. I can't say that a player excersising an option where he is underpreforming his salary as loyalty. Loyalty is what Kerry Wood signed for last year. I like Dempster, he's a funny guy and I think a cool guy to have around the team. But this was just business.
  10. Maybe it's not clear. But it's as close to clear as you can get. Even the best players in the game have to adhere to the natural rule of age. And even though Pojuls will continue to be great, he is past his prime years.
  11. Maybe the article is wrong but the header says Pojuls buys Cpt. America on DVD. Good God man I hope it's wrong, the guy makes tens of millions of dollars a year, he sure as hell better have an 80 inch 25 thou 3D plasma and bluray player.
  12. It has a somber tone, feel. I listen to the flow of the music as much if not more than words. Unless you speak specifically some people around here seem to enjoy in just picking apart every little thing you say, like they get off on it. Not talking about you though.
  13. Just because a song is written about something you like doesn't make it good. Song is written in a depressing tone and isn't about bringing it home, its about SOMEDAY winning it all. Someday being who knows how long. "Someday we'll go all the way" is the same thing as saying "Wait til next year" If you're a pessimist that's how you interpret it. There are an infinite # of ways to enjoy, and interpret music. Something you absolutely hate, is loved by others. Just because you hate something doesn't make it bad. I hear a hopeful yet somber tone in that song. It becomes much more uplifting if you listen to it now, with the whole change in front office we have had.
  14. I hate to tell this guy, but even the "old school" guys like Jim Hendry were top 1%'ers. In every single industry in America, the top 1% are getting richer and the income disparity is widening. That's EVERYWHERE. Including baseball. I wouldn't have such vitriol for people who are smart and have money. My anger lies in the people who steal, and cheat, and buy polititians so they can cheat their taxes. This guy gives true liberals, or progressives, a bad name. He seems to be saying just because law students run baseball that we should just hate it now.
  15. Yeah good point.
  16. I want the Cubs to be good next year. And I think they can be without going after Pojuls or Fielder. I think Theo is smart enough and good enough to find us a few under appreciated gems to help patch this ballclub up a bit next year. I've said many times, I'd rather see them triple the amount spend on international signings over the next 5 years over signing either one of them. Because that makes us all the MORE stronger a few years down the road. As opposed to immensely better right now, and somewhat better later.
  17. The 2018 Cubs will have money to burn. Just because you assume they will, that's no reason to say "Let's go ahead and plan to have burnt money in 2018". I highly doubt Epstein thinks that way either. Pojuls is an incredible player, don't assume I'm thinking otherwise. But we've got to get off this addiction of signing the best free agents whenever they are available, no matter how much we have to give them, and into what age we have to sign them. No trade clause? sure! That was the Hendry way. I'm not against signing that elite guy when the time is right. But that is the old way. Personally? I'd much rather spend $30 million a year for the next 5 years on the international signings, than having Pojuls on the team as we built the Cubs Dynasty. That will make us all the more stronger LATER, than falling in love with the idea of another "fix it quick" free agent like we have done in the past.
  18. Any idea what time the conference might be? I'd like to set comcast sportsnet to record.
  19. He only puts down his phone to do one thing. be awesome?
  20. Because you know what our new front office would do. He's the real Epstein, duh. Go ahead, ask him about Pujols.
  21. Do you really view pujols or fielder as band aids? They should both be around long enough and great players for long enough to be part of our next core.. They will be part of the next core and incredibly good for the first 1 or 2 years when our next core becomes a really good core. Which might be about 3-4 years from now. Then the next 4 years you all will be clamoring for them to be traded, when they are making 25-30 million a year. I'm saying, let's not sign a contract for someone who is going to be either, a very old Pojuls, or a very run down Fielder, and people posting about how maybe we could get someone elses overpaid contract in return for our own injured or severely underproducing player.
  22. Seeing as how we have a brilliant new front office now (with more building to do). I wouldn't mind signing one of them. But let's not repeat the soriano mistake. OMG we have money let's win now. Let's think rationally, and see what we can do to feild an atleast competitive team while still building for the future. Could we do both? Sure. But I'd rather see them make moves that make is weaker over the next couple years, and even more strong over the years AFTER that. I'd much rather watch a few interesting young guys than another bandaid to keep us somewhat competitive.
  23. 1 million more than the yankees. Whatever the yankees payroll is each year, we'll up it by one million. Even if we have to hire a bad free agent to do so. ;)
  24. I really like Tim Wilken. I remember when we got him I was really excited. Up until then we had MacPhail picking them and so to go from MacPhail to a guy who had a really good track record I felt the Cubs were finally heading in the right direction. I really would like him to stay. But we are essentially getting 3 guys who in their own right could be very good GMs. Epstein, President of Baseball Ops, Hoyer GM, Mcleod assis GM are you freakin kidding me?
