  1. Fortunately this seems to be a different age when it comes to forgetting about these things like Kobe and Roethlisberger benefited from. I would hope we've improved as a society. Then again (and yes, different cases that have gone in different ways)....when's the last time people have brought up Castro's sexual assault issue? Not enough, but that also died pretty fast. That said, a lot has changed even in just 4 years.

  3. It's been brought up before how historically, it's incredibly tough to reach a guilty verdict. There's a Blackhawks blog writer (also a lawyer) on Twitter at @regressedpdo that says it a lot better than I can, but there's a decent chance that the prosecution is encouraging a settlement to avoid the possibility that she has to go through a long, very difficult trial, and be left with nothing at the end of it. Oh yeah, I definitely understand that; too many tend to point as settlement as "proof" the accuser was just out to get money, but, like you said, it's typically their lawyers pushing them to settle because the odds of actually getting a conviction are so slim with something like this.
  4. Castro also somehow doesn't suck anymore. There is sorcery afoot.
  5. Presumably the Kane camp started ramping up the offers to absurd levels out of panic. I get the temptation of a ton of money and, especially, the reluctance of the victims in cases like this to go through the drawn out process of a very public trial, but damn, I am sick of these types of [expletive] getting away with it.
  6. Sure, but I'll bet that vast majority of SF fans who were happy to see him go were just because he didn't seal the deal with a WS win while having maybe the greatest hitter in baseball history. It's easy to forget how long it took a ton of Cubs fans to finally turn on him.
  7. Sure, but she and probably almost any Giants fan that said something similar at the time likely felt that way for meatball reasons as opposed to recognizing how much he sucked with pitchers and young players.
  8. I swear that thing was just a trap to trick people into a conversation when they come up to try and read your hideous, nonsensical t-shirt.
  9. could have been the executor of his estate I wonder who he bequeathed his extensive collection of St. Ides to.
  10. He vanished shortly before the losing streak and has not been seen since. It's assumed he was eaten by coyotes.
  11. Wait, how different do you think baseball stats are now vs. 11 years ago? The smarter baseball fans are in tune with sabermetrics at places like Northside Baseball. Nomar was a pretty bad player in 2004 before he got traded to Chicago (-0.1 WAR lol), I guarantee you the reaction would be completely different had it happened now compared to 11 years ago. BP and BR were already around and well established at that point; it's not like it wasn't obvious he was coming back from an injury. He had also shown, just the year before, that when he wasn't injured he was one of the most valuable players in the game.
  12. Wait, how different do you think baseball stats are now vs. 11 years ago?

  14. it would be our version of what the red sox did to the yankees I'm pretty sure that if they actually overtook the Cardinals and then somehow managed to NOT win the WS I'd give up on baseball. They take the division and I am betting it ALL. Do you ever mean what you say? I HAVE SHATTERED THE SANCTITY OF HYPERBOLE.

  16. Taking the division is going to shatter the Cardinals and TBFIB. It's going to be decadent.
  17. Edwards threw the 8th, 4 pitch walk, 5-4-3 GIDP, 4-3 GO Nice.
  18. Hey, the first playoff game at home is going to be insanely stressful until they actually win another one of the damn things. At least with the one-game playoff it's over quick if they lose as opposed to slow, statistically (almost) inevitable death if they lose the first game at home in a 5 game series. Win it and not only have they finally won a playoff again again, but one that moves them along. It exorcises a [expletive] ton of demons and starts the stampede.

  20. This is a perfect day for a strike thrower to eat some innings. With Hendricks tomorrow there's a chance we'll have to cash those in soon. That's on the Cubs for throwing Hendricks on one day rest. Hahahahahahahahaaahahaha!
