  1. I thought it was mostly for the C-3P0-stype killjoy posts like the one above.
  2. I'll bet he has a gigantic taint that puts his forehead to shame.
  3. THE WRONG COMEBACK KID GOT TRADED. *Sobs*
  4. Deadspin commenter wisdom:
  5. Soler's lucky he's so pretty.
  6. Mirotic has been very good as a 4. He's been very underwhelming in regards to what people expected him to be, and, quite frankly, what they needed him to be. He hasn't really regressed, but he hasn't improved at all on what he showed last year. Last year was supposed to be a stepping off point to what he could be, not what he actually is.
  7. Besides Rose being a mess, the biggest knock against the team has to be McDermott and Mirotic both not progressing at all.
  8. What a dumb name. Probably deserved it.
  9. "...from Chimpan-A to Chimpan-Zee..." that's the obvious one and it's good, but i was thinking this one Huh. That was unexpected. "Ever hear of Planet of the Apes?" "Uh, the movie or the planet?"
  10. You lucked out; tons of Cubs fans stupidly griped about him even when he was at his best. The hop, the camera love, the nonsense about how "he only hit home runs when it didn't matter/nobody on base/etc.," that he didn't care about winning and only about his own numbers. It was weird how many fans just out and out hated him pretty much the whole time he was with the team.
  11. The Sosa hop is better than a bat flip. the sosa hop was actually something that i only noticed after he was gone from the cubs/baseball. it just seemed so natural i never noticed it. but it kind of feels surreal going back and watching it now and picking up on it. plus, he hit so many damn dongs that i'm sure it was just seemed second nature to see it. i will forever love that man People like my grandafther couldn't stop complaining about the hop all the damn time. And it just made me love it even more.
  12. [expletive] St. Louis.
  13. huh. i actually haven't seen it since maybe high school, but my main impression of it, other than the twist, is that it was "cheesy". i guess i'll have to give it another gander someday soylent green is PEOPLE seriously though, how does the game not get any love on this front I mean, it's cheesy in that the effects look plenty dated, plus all the sequels and spinoffs are SUPER cheesy (though I find the scope and ambition of the sequels impressive, relatively speaking. For something that's looked at largely as camp or cheese, they sure don't pull any punches) but the first one, IMO, is pretty damn solid. Well directed and pretty good classic sci-fi mixed with 60's-style subversion.
  14. [expletive], I think Planet of the Apes is a genuinely good movie.
  15. Hey, those dudes look like they're in pretty good shape.

  17. There's just no fooling this guy.
  18. Probably not, but, holy horsefeathers, his high school baseball team is in some serious trouble: http://deadspin.com/report-high-school-baseball-coaches-racially-abused-pl-1756133416
  19. Well, maybe, because the Cowboys exist. Nobody else is likely touching them, and especially not Manziel. What would even be the point? He's been garbage in the pros and has been nothing but a headache. And Rice is never coming back.
  20. Disagree 100 percent. A hitter who slashes 280/350/450 absolutely has more business hitter at the top of the order than one who hits 280/300/500. The top of the order hitters are table setters, and so you want those players to get on base at a high rate for your middle of the order hitters to drive in. The idea that it doesn't matter whether a highly disciplined hitter hits second or sixth is ridiculous. So hit that guy 9th instead. Outside of the very first AB of the game, the idea of the top of the order kind of goes out the window, especially with Maddon.
  21. https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=888&dat=19770810&id=VwMMAAAAIBAJ&sjid=IFoDAAAAIBAJ&pg=1864,579730&hl=en https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1891&dat=19770810&id=zt4pAAAAIBAJ&sjid=KtYEAAAAIBAJ&pg=1347,1446303&hl=en Long story short: kid is dying of bone cancer, but his parents have decided to not tell him that he is dying. Bobby Murcer is the sick kid's favorite player and he hits 2 HR's after talking to the kid on the phone earlier and saying he'd try to hit a HR for him. When Murcer hits the first one, someone working for the Cubs passes a note to Jackson in the booth about the story, but neglects to specify that the kid doesn't know that he's dying. Jackson mentions it, and specifically mentions that Murcer hit his home runs for "Scott Crull, a boy dying of cancer." I had never heard this before. Holy horsefeathers. Sadly, the kid did pass away a couple of weeks later: https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1454&dat=19770823&id=FRtOAAAAIBAJ&sjid=MhMEAAAAIBAJ&pg=5959,3911544&hl=en
  22. And then there's that StylesClash dude, but he's a Cardinals fan, so whatever.
  23. There was one dude saying he thought it would be a good idea before pretty much everyone else said they were against it, or didn't want to do it if it meant Soler was gone.
