C'mon. I wasn't making anything close to that point. OK, then lets at least acknowledge that smart phones aren't going anywhere. People being distracted at sporting events isn't getting less common, it's getting more common. People can shout at the sky all they want about horrible technology is, but it's here for good. Which only increases the need for more netting and protection for people that are sitting close enough for bats to sail into the stands and hit them, or their kids. If the kid wasn't messing with a phone he likely would have been focused on eating something, or messing with his hat, of if they had free giveaway, or if someone had bought him from the shop, etc., etc.. I'm with you in that kids aren't going to be typically laser-focused on the game and it's silly to blame this on the phone like otherwise he was almost certainly going to be watching the game at that moment. Even though this was an entire bat, just how the bats most players prefer tend to break a LOT more now than they did in decade's past is probably the best argument for more protection being extended down the stands.
