    How many interleague games do you think there are? The Cubs only play 8 games in AL parks, 3 of them to start the year when we're pretty certain Hendricks won't be starting. The idea behind having Schwarber catch is to get his bat and someone else's in the lineup. Every game he DHs is one less game he'd have to catch to achieve that goal. So I subtracted those games as DH from the approximate number of games that Hendricks would conceivably start which should mean that Schwarber will catch him around 20 times. http://i.giphy.com/AxoVt9Kro1VBe.gif

    I know, like, 4 people who have a firm grasp of baseball stats. And I'm a baseball idiot, so *I* should be worse than most of them, yet somehow I end up the one on the analytic side. I used the defensive shift as an example on purpose; I've lost track of the number of times I heard some variation of people going "they can DO that?!?" when they see it happen.

    Your mileage may vary; to me, it seems like the average football fan can rattle of different plays and formations and the like before going on a rant about rings and being a general on the field and acting like a thug and all that nonsense. With baseball, it feels like a good chunk of fans will look at you baffled by something as basic as a defensive shift or OPS.

    Personally, I'd say I know a LOT more football fans who seem to understand a lot more basic intricacies of the game, even if they are complete meatballs, than baseball fans who kick and scream and dig their heels in over trying to understand even simple, basic sabermetrics.

    People often mistake a slower game with being smarter, for whatever reasons. Among the big 4 American sports, baseball easily has the least strategy and coaching involved.

    The Cardinal's playoffs/total fail this offseason, combined with most of their membership becoming laughably born-again SJWs in the wake of Ferguson (seriously, I've read [expletive] there that would make Melissa Harris-Perry blush), has made GRB one of my go-to sites when I need a laugh. anyone figure out wtf this meant?
