  1. I did not think I would kinda wishing I could get out of going to Pittsburgh this weekend to see the Cubs for my birthday. What the horsefeathers.
  2. I stopped watching the Cubs games a while ago; now I will follow via Gameday while living vicariously through my amazing The Show '17 RttS prospect, Cobra Summersgill, who miraculously got drafted by the Cubs after I told the Marlins to go horsefeathers off.
  3. Most pro athletes probably don't vote at all.
  4. From all the air being released as the 2017 Cubs tear out the hearts of everyone in the stands.
  5. Jesus, he's like the anti-Rizzo; he's got a heaping helping of giantface.
  6. Cubs just still playing horsefeathers the closer, baby.
  7. Well, the starting rotation is a cobbled-together collection that tends to not go more than 5-6 innings. Gotta get that pen rest when you can, I guess.
  8. They wouldn't be the first very talented team that underachieved greatly would they? the cubs have a supremely talented roster. maybe they won't be "2016 good" but they will eventually run away with this division and then - like always - the playoffs are a crap shoot. that's the beauty of baseball is that things normalize after 162 games. Eh; 2015 Nationals say hi.
  9. Didn't they weirdly have that stick out last year (and not just in the "well, we get a ton of guys on base so we leave a ton of guys on base"-way), too? Or was that 2015? It was 2015(recall the hand wringing about high K guys against the power pitchers/Mets), and they were much better in 2016, the Verducci book talks about how they had an increased emphasis on 'B-hacking', a shorter swing with 2 strikes that cut out some K's and made them less prone to killed rallies. Hard to say if they lost that emphasis, it's statistical noise(even 60 games isn't a ton for this stuff to even out), or if pitchers have a new/better way of attacking some of those hitters. Yeah, that sounds familiar now. Thanks.

  11. Zobrist, if you don't score a run here then GOD IS DEAD.
  12. If Rizzo dongs here then the season is saved. If he doesn't, they are cursed to nothing but listening to Sublime and the Chili Pepps.
  13. Damn, based on Gameday, I guess Butler was basically daring that last guy to dong the horsefeathers out of him.
  14. It's a recipe for sustained success; get them behind immediately so a lineup filled with struggling players presses even more. Add the bonus of battling just to have league average-quality defense, and VOILA: a treading water .500 team out of one that should be dominating fools.
  15. EAT POOP, JOE. He went bonkers during game 6 of the WS and never looked back.
  16. LET'S TALKY-TALK AND MORE GAME THREAD STARTY-START. Put yer money where yer mouths are.
  17. Yeah, Duke's tired of jacking guys one by one and just going for the death blow now.
  18. Winning the terrible division wouldn't surprise me; the Cubs actually doing much in the postseason if they don't SIGNIFICANTLY improve from where they are right now would. Which, hey, very well could happen! But it just kinda sucks a third of the season is gone and that the defense, starting pitching AND offense are all where they are. It doesn't seem unreasonable at all for people to be pessimistic given the expectations going in to the season. Even anticipating some regressing, being this mediocre after 60 games is worrisome, and ideally being able to scrap to come out ahead in a division of turds isn't exactly comforting.
