  1. Did I miss the Cubs' lineup being posted somewhere?
  2. Oh, also, this is great http://www.northsidebaseball.com/archive/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=29866&p=848659#p848659 I wonder what a guy like ZZ Thorn would think about the current state of the team. I feel like the Ricketts and this front office have given us everything we wanted for the Cubs. We've got a smart, analytical front office who tend to value the sorts of traits in players that we also value. They put together the best run in our lifetimes, and finally won the World Series. Does ZZ Thorn just accept these changes and enjoy them now that they've actually been made, or does he still favor the Dusty and Hendry approach? We've seen those types grouse and gripe a little louder from time to time if the team really struggles for a stretch, but I can't imagine that even the biggest pro-Dusty or Hendry weirdo isn't happy with the end results of the current regime. I mean, they're ultimately Cubs fans.
  3. I'm still totally on board the "Let the Surly Ol' Mule start Game 1" train, though I'm weirdly torn on whether I'd want Lester or Quintana starting tomorrow. Weren't both better on the road than at Wrigley this season? Probably just a lot of noise (especially in Quintana's case), but I thought someone pointed out here how Lester had some surprising home/road splits in 2017. I could, however, just be totally making this up. I was ready to agree with you on Lester because I remembered the two starts where he didn't make it out of the second (one of them he didn't make it out of the first) were at home, but even with those starts he still has slightly better numbers at home this year. 4.27 vs 4.41 ERA, FIP about the same. Cool; I figured it was probably me imagining things.
  4. It's pretty crazy how huge a difference be if Wilson hadn't inexplicably stopped being Wilson the second he joined the Cubs. I fully expect Carl to flip it back on any time now, as he seems wont to do when he gets like this, so just having Wilson being himself would all of a sudden make this a pretty decent bullpen between him, Strop, Carl, Montgomery and Davis. It's been a real kick to the nuts to not be able to rely on him at all.

  6. Yeah, I'd say in the dozen or so games I've been to at Nats Park I see significantly more kids there than I do at most of the Cubs games I've been to (which is not to say there's not often a lot of kids at Wrigley). Just going with my own small sample size, there seems to be more younger kids and grandparent-types at Nats games than when I've been to Wrigley or places like PNC or Camden or Miller Park; those latter places (especially Wrigley) seem MUCH heavier people who look to be in their 20's and 30's than the Nats games.

  8. Yeah, that's some hack hockey bull horsefeathers right there.
  9. Yeah, this idea that nobody can actually be a fan of the Nats if they're not a kid is pretty hilariously petty. It was an area without a baseball team for a while, but where people really wanted a baseball team, so they embraced it when they got one. I have no idea why this would seem odd to anyone.
  10. [tweet] [/tweet] Man, Bossk has fallen on tough times... http://0.media.dorkly.cvcdn.com/90/42/2985e03d7cac1b9e0d02e3640c9f2281.gif
  11. I was rarely more than indifferent to them. That's pretty much the case for all the non-Cardinals Central teams for me.
  12. You had a lot of Mid-Atlantic folks who halfheartedly rooted for NY or PA teams, or the Orioles, so there was a lot of excitement when DC got a team again. You've got a lot of local DC/VA/MD people that wanted a team and jumped on right away. I mean, they've been around 12 years now, so I'm not gonna begrudge people for being passionate about them like the team just appeared out of nowhere.
  13. Same here; seems like a totally different team.
  14. I want a Cubs/Yankees WS because that matchup is cool as hell on all levels, while everyone always kinda forgets the Astros exist.
  15. For even conceiving of such a thing...
  16. horsefeathers, I hate rewatching almost everything about Game 7 of the WS minus the final out; it almost all just takes me back to being crazy stressed out. All of the good stuff was THIS close to being cancelled out until then. Even taking the lead in extras, that horsefeathers got hairy again real fast...
  17. I was gonna be real annoyed if nobody picked up what I was laying down.
  18. There was an argument to be made not to even use Carl at all, but at least he had the quick hook. Yeah, that was the biggest miracle of them all; for once Joe didn't wait until it was 3-4 AB's too late to pull a struggling beloved reliever.
  19. Lackey-Quintana-Hendricks-Lester-Jake works out pretty perfectly rest-wise, especially if Q and Hendricks are needed for games six and seven.
  20. Yeah, I don't see the need to rush old man Lester back on short rest if Quintana is pitching one of the first two games. That seems more like a desperation move unnecessarily early in a series.
  21. Why do so many people thunk the Cubs will starr Lackey? Quintana threw what amounted to a bullpen session, he'll be fine for Saturday. If you're going to have to start Lackey in one of the first two, which they'll have to do unless they bring Lester or Arrieta back on short rest, might as well give Quintana the extra day off. Yeah, you have more breathing room with a seven game series, so if Quinatana is good to go for game one? Great! But if he needs, or they think he needs, an extra day and Lackey has to start game one? NBD, IMO.
  22. Why do so many people thunk the Cubs will starr Lackey? Quintana threw what amounted to a bullpen session, he'll be fine for Saturday. I just came to ask this. It's hilarious how many people say "the Cubs burned Quintana" when he only threw 12 pitches. He should be able to start either Saturday or Sunday. I don't think anyone is really thinking Quintana wouldn't pitch EITHER of those days; the Lackey theories seem based more around giving Lester, Jake and Hendricks more rest.
  23. Why do so many people thunk the Cubs will starr Lackey? Quintana threw what amounted to a bullpen session, he'll be fine for Saturday. I guess it depends on how much the Cubs want to rest their starters. I wouldn't be surprised if Lackey started either game one or game two. Then Hendricks-Lester-Jake can go on normal rest for games three-five.
