That seems like a bit of an overreaction. I know nearly all of the innings came against the Reds and we really shouldn't be planning on Jorge de la Rosa shutting people down in the playoffs, but the Cubs bullpen hasn't even given up a run since Strop went down, in 8.2 IP. And I'm not sure if I'm ready to completely write Carl off just yet. He's had instances in the past of completely losing it and then reversing course and finding his groove again. And he has a 2.72 FIP and 2.39 ERA this year. Also, Justin Wilson has a 2.85 ERA this year. And Mike Montgomery will be added to the playoff bullpen, as well. It's not what we hoped to see, for sure. And our bullpen is definitely now one of our weaknesses. But it's not quite "Our starter has to pitch 8 innings" bad. I don't think anyone is completely writing off Carl; he's just unpredictable enough where he's a guy you have either think twice about using in a critical spot, or you have to have a really quick hook on him, and Joe doesn't seem to agree with either notions. I think pretty much everyone, however, would still agree he's a really valuable reliever.
