  1. I miss home runs. This makes me sad.
  2. I don't think it's a matter of overlooking...he's slumping on a terrible team riddled with players inexplicably "peaking and valleying" since April. Given his offensive history, I think it's a safe bet he'll bounce back, and probably already is. I look at Walker this way...he's nowhere near being a problem, he swings a heck of bat (especially when used in the top two spots in the order), his D is serviceable and he's incredibly cheap. Unless he can be traded for a decent prospect or two or be part of a package for an impact player, moving him is very unecessary. The Cubs really need to focus on the starting pitching and the outfield to kick this team back towards even being mediocre, and unless Todd can be used in a big way in those areas, I think he should definitely be here next year batting #1 or #2.
  3. Bilk- 1. To defraud, cheat, or swindle 2. To thwart or frustrate 3. To elude $32.5 million for 12 wins in 3 years. Let me know when he wants to give any of the cash back for doing nothing. This post is a moron.
  4. Bilk- 1. To defraud, cheat, or swindle 2. To thwart or frustrate 3. To elude $32.5 million for 12 wins in 3 years. Let me know when he wants to give any of the cash back for doing nothing. He tore his labrum and now rotator cuff to swindle the Cubs? and he would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for those meddling kids... and that dog. "Who's up for a Neifi-Snack?!?"
  5. He's a MLB manager and the team he's currently managing just went and won the WS for the first time in almost under a century under his watch. Sounds pretty "successful" to me.
  6. Yeah, but that's hindsight. Sure, compared to what we have now, Clement would be a godsend. But when you sit down and look over his numbers, dropping him because of how much money he wanted is along the lines of wanting Wood and Maddux gone to save the money they'd command vs. their production. We shouldn't have to settle for picking one crappy situation over the other...I want Hendry and co. to make something close to the right decision for once! And re-signing Clement would not have been the right choice. The right choice would have been using the money saved smartly...of course, that didn't happen, either.
  7. BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! Awesome!
  8. The Daily is pumping for a LA team to Z! Yellow journalism at its finest. Of course if the Dodgers or Angels want to give the Cubs their top 5 prospects Hendry ought to think about it. If those 5 are overall top 50 guys that is. Agreed. The LA Times is trying to start a rumor, that isn't even out there. They think that because the Cubs are nearing the Pirates/Royals levels that the Cubs would be look to "dump" salary. If it was KC/Pitt that Z was on...he would be the hottest name available for trade, and I could see why the LA Times would jones for the guy. But since Z is on the Cubs, I can't see how they think the Cubs are going to trade him? Yeah! Whenever we stumble upon the the game's best players, we keep them mired in mediocrity, dammit! We're no quitters!
  9. I think Hendry said he was "evaluating" Dusty in one of his alcohol-induced hazes and has completely forgot about it at this point.
  10. Dude, if it's not going down in Madison, it's not going down, ya dig?
  11. Totally meaningless gossip from CubsReporter.com: Probably nothing ("Talking to a guy..."), but hey, it's a slow Sunday night. So, yes, I know this will no doubt amount to nothing, but I like the hypothetical question it raises...how many of you would want Piniella running the team if it meant we could see A-Rod playing for the Cubs? I really don't want to see Sweet Lou in charge, but...
  12. Is that really a "Murderer's Row?" Two moves like that would be big steps in the right direction, but hardly all that would need to be done to make this team serious contenders.
  13. That doesn't call for a reduced payroll, though. That calls for a new management team that will make the right decisions with the current payroll level. Tell that to the Royals, Pirates and Orioles.
  14. That's like expecting everyone to ignore the elephant in the corner of the room. Dusty was brought here to make this team win, and he came within 5 outs of the WS. The next season, his team imploded in the final stretch and missed the playoffs altogether. Since then, the team under his watch has gone from bad to staggeringly awful. The issue of Dusty's future with this team cannot be ignored at this point by anyone. Sorry, Scott, but them's the breaks.
  15. It's not a matter of giving up on him...the only suggestion to deal him off the team in this thread that people mulled over was somehow packaging him for freakin' Tejada! Giving up on him would be settling for someone like Neifi Perez instead.
  16. I agreed. Cedeno looks lost, and overmatched, not to mention he has lost some confidence. Swinging at a ball over your head in a bases loaded situation, and then swinging at a 45 ft curveball in the 9th. He needs help in the worst way. I know I am going to get booed, but right now, Cedeno needs to go to AAA, Nefti needs to temp start (provided he gives up the switch-hitting, and concentrate on batting RH ONLY), and Theriot to be called up. Cedeno has been looking very Corey-esque as of late, especially today, and that's worrisome. On the upside, at least Pierre and Jones are staying hot. I know it's likely Hendry will just hold onto them, but part of me thinks maybe he'll do the smart thing and trade while their value is high.
  17. Novoa is alright, but nothing special. I think, or more accurately, I HOPE he's up instead of Wuertz because the Cubs intend to use Novoa as part of a trade by the time next season rolls around and are trying to show him off a little bit and they're planning on holding onto Wuertz.
  18. Agreed. Every thread CBB seems to go into he manages to get an anti-Sox comment in there. Ditto. He seems to be more concerned with bashing the Sox or even the Cardinals than discussing the Cubs. It got real old, real fast.
  19. Like a few are mentioning, I think the slim bright side here is it's sounding like Wood realizes that his future might be in the bullpen, and if the Cubs can sign him for VERY cheap over the next 2 years, I think they should. I still love the idea of Kerry Wood: Super Closer.
  20. Maybe. I'm not saying this is the same injury from 1, 2 or 3 years ago, but I do think everything is related. It starts with being overused in 2003, then having to compensate for the achilles on top of that, then the freak injuries and having to adjust for those and now the sickness-filled off-season. It seems like he needs the time to get things back into place and heal fully. This would be the perfect season to do such a thing with a pitcher that is still very young, has massive potential and talent, and could anchor your team's starting staff for the better part of a decade at least if handled right at this point.
  21. C-Lee flies out to RF! DAS COOBS WIN!!!
  22. Dempster gets Weeks swinging on 3 straight pitches!
  23. Sweet, Dempster's in to finish it off. 1-2-3, Demp!
