  1. Don't see what, the rookie-hazing? I thought a ton of teams do it, the dressing like women specifically, too.
  2. As long as it's for only 1 year and for less than what Neifi made, definitely. It's a gamble, but there's at least some hope being shown, sample size that it is, that it could pay off. If he can be anywhere near the old Wade Miller if even only just for a season it helps in a number of valuable ways.
  3. I want the training staff gone, too. Let them go cripple some other team.
  4. There probably are any number of managers that would manage exactly the way Baker has. After all Baker played The Game and is a baseball lifer, that seems to be a prerequisit for the position. But truely, I don't think a manager matters that much, maybe a handfull of wins over the course of the season. If a team is close it matter much more. I think Girardi managed the Marlins out of the playoffs, for example. Baker is/was bad, but I don't think he could have got much more out that assembled team then he got. It was bad at the end of 05 and was worse at the start of Spring Training. From what I've ssen of Girardi, I don't want him managing the Cubs next year. Nevertheless, until the front office decides that their philosophy de jour is not the right one it could be a while until the Cubs are in contention. As always I hope for the best. Sometimes things just break right. What's your issue with Girardi? He's only been at it a year but there are strong signs he'll be a young pitcher-abuser extraordinaire a la Dusty in no time.
  5. It would have been horrible - but as I remember, Brant Brown was a BIG reason why we were in it that year. Didn't he have like several late inning HR's that year to win games? And he was young - what ever happened to him? It is like he was traded and then fell off the face of the earth. He was the Alex Gonzalez of his day.
  6. Ye Gads, I thought Piniella was already forgotten about! Say it ain't so!
  7. Seeing as this is baseball, the Cubs could easily get just as good a pick where they're at now as opposed to being in last place. I'd like to see him get smashed because I don't want to see Hendry sign him to a long-term deal in the offseason based on a couple of good starts at the end of the season. Nobody wants a long term deal for him at this point. My issues with Hendry aside, I'm hoping he's learned from his mistakes with Neifi, Rusch and Dempster and wouldn't sign him to more than a single year deal with incentives on the cheap. The pitching FA market is pretty slim this year and if Miller can get back to what he was or even just close to that he helps solve some problems as a go-to #4 or even #3. I understand the concern but at the same time I find it inane and incredibly shortsighted for people to root for the failure of someone who could potentially help this team out in a big way next year ideally for not a huge sum of money. We're not talking Neifi or Rusch flash in the pans here here...Miller has shown in the past he can be a legitmately good starter. Obviously, I don't want him coming back to be at the sacrifice of picking up another quality starter out the FA market, but I want him to succeed for this club for the right price.
  8. Seeing as this is baseball, the Cubs could easily get just as good a pick where they're at now as opposed to being in last place.
  9. I would like to see Miller to continue getting better and I would like him back for a cheapie single year deal with incentives.
  10. I've officially given up on Dempster. Unless he's pitching hurt, he's just proving last year and the beginning of this one were just an extended fluke. Yeah, I know the team is bad and his schedule has been all over the place, but he's looking beyond terrible at this point.
  11. ROAR LIKE ANIMAL!!! THE BEARS ARE MIGHTY!!! As a reward they get to devour Ryan Dempster whole as a human sacrifice to their awesomeness.
  12. You'd only bat him higher a slot or two for the dingers. We all know this. Nobody's expecting him to suddenly start clogging. Zambrano's got 2 dingers? At the very least. Why do you think everyone was staring so much when he dropped his pants to show how he wasn't hurt from snapping the bat?
  13. You'd only bat him higher a slot or two for the dingers. We all know this. Nobody's expecting him to suddenly start clogging.
  14. As much as I like the ol' red head, I'd hand him over in a flash for Manny, drama and all.
  15. I know it's total bull, but I brought up while watching the opener this year that the Cubs have beaten up on the Reds since 2003 when they open there and it's always just been a false hope for the upcoming season. I hate being right. The Cubs must lose opening day.
  16. Might need to have an alternate closer waiting in the wings, though. If his arm can't handle the pounding having 5 days of rest, how will it handle having to pitch, say, every day for 3 days and then another 2 after 1 day of rest in between? That's the life of a closer at times. Not that I don't want him. Just saying. howry can close. marmol needs to be switched to the pen in 2007 imo too so they might as well try him at closing in iowa. I'd rather see Mateo guided towards that role than Marmol.
  17. Zambrano and Hill and Aramis are the only things not crushing our souls.
  18. Z is a monster. His new dance around the mound will delight children throughout the ages.
  19. I think any realistic trade for A-Rod would have to include Aramis or Zambrano. No way around it.
  20. I blame myself. I knew finally getting to watch one of his games would ruin everything. I apologize to one and all for my mistake.
  21. I don't think anyone is counting on Wood as the only option as closer. Dempster, Howry, Eyre, Wuertz and even Mateo (down the line) could slide in there as needed.
  22. Sadly, this is the most likely course of action brought up so far in this thread.
  23. I have long been a fan of the idea of Kerry Wood: Super Closer, and will only refer to him as such until my dream comes to life.
  24. I have yet to actually been able to see any of Hill's great games over the last month or so...will I jinx it if I finally watch him tonight?
  25. Then they will need to replace both CF and RF. Doesn't matter, either way they needed to replace 2 guys out there, IMO. I always come back to my idea of platooning Murton with Jacque with the idea he'd hopefully be able to take over RF after a year or two. Get big bopper for LF a la Dunn, C-Lee, etc. and haul up Pie.
