  1. Trading Jones just to trade him makes zero sense. He did very well last year and he's looking real sharp this spring. I think he's gonna surprise a lot of people this year. If a GOOD trade comes along that improves the team, sure, jump on it, but the idea of trying to dump him seems incredibly stupid. I'm all for working with the idea that Pie will be up to play CF or RF come the dealine...by then I think the Cubs could something nice for Jacque given his salary and him hopefully doing well again a la last year along with hopefully improved defense.
  2. They said he was still "mostly hitting between 85-88." They didn't specify whether or not 88 was where he topped out.
  3. Meh. The trade was pretty much a wash. Aardsma is looking almost as bad this spring.
  4. "He's been spending a lot of time in Thailand" can't help but sound suspect, no matter who it is.
  5. Dempster's gonna have a great career as a commentator.
  6. I'm really encouraged by a lot of Jacque's at bats. He's definitely taking a lot more pitches than he's usually mocked for.
  7. UNBE-LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-VABLE!!!
  8. You really think so? Only Howry and Eyre are proven RPs. Dempster could return to form and I think that he will. But everyone else is mediocre, not to mention Cotts who is dreadful and Wood who is always hurt. Nope, the BP is a weak spot. Wuertz has been a really good reliever for a few years now. Ohman is also very good when used correctly against lefties. And Cherry could turn out to be a welcome addition.
  9. He's said in the past that if the Yankees came to him and flat out said "we want to trade you," he'd go along with it.
  10. Christ. So far, the two takes we have on Prior today are either Muskat or Al-freakin'-Yella? Yeeeeesh. Talk about pick your poison.
  11. we aren't going to get anything decent for miller and he's just in the way. if he(wade) isn't willing to move to the pen, then we get what we can and cut our, not too considerable, losses. He's not "in the way" if he's pitching well enough to start. I haven't seen much that shows that Guzman is like light years ahead of Miller and should definitely be starting over him. Miller can potentially net the Cubs a very nice return if he goes out there for a few weeks and shows that he can get some wins. No, I don't want him to be the option over Guzman or, hopefully, Prior by the time May rolls around, but I also don't see any overwhelming reasons that we HAVE to start Guzman over Miller in the #5 slot. It's not like Guzman is going anywhere and I don't think starting the year in the minors is going to be a bad thing. Show off Miller, get him moved and then Guzman can move up. What's the catastrophe in not having him there the first few weeks?
  12. Guzman did alright. His stuff looked decent. I'd still rather see Miller get the #5 nod just so we can get him traded for something decent.
  13. Hah! Even WGN wants to turn the sound down.
  14. Dude, it's not like spring training ends tomorrow.
  15. He will be 32 in July, and there are questions about him being able to play short anymore because he has bulked up a little bit (and of course hasn't played there in a while). If he can play short passably is a mystery that nobody really knows for sure right now. I've seen a couple Yankees forums where the few pro-ARod posters claim he's lost something like 15 pounds over the offseason, so hey, maybe it's all part of the master plan for him to get back to the infield spot where he belongs. I think ARod's "it's up to the NY fans" are just creating a safety net for himself. The majority of Yankee fans hate him and likely wouldn't accept him as "true Yankee" short of him not having a single defensive error and winning the World Series with a grand slam. They jump all over him for the littlest thing up there...he'd have the careeriest of career years for them to finally shut up.
  16. I don't agree with that at all. The gambling rules have existed for the better part of a century. The steroids are an ongoing process that have only come up relatively recently in the game's history. You go back to when the gambling ban was created, gambling had been part of the game for years, a la steroids. The gambling ban set the correct precedent we should be hoping leads to better rulings over the steroids issue...letting steroids negate older rules seems bass-ackwards to me.
  17. So only young artists have good concerts? yes. Lets see, I've seen... Paul Simon Art Garfunkel (strangely, never together) Joni Mitchell Bob Dylan (a zillion times) The Dead Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise Willie Nelson Robert Plant & Jimmy Page All of whom were "old" when I saw them, and all of whom put on great concerts. So I'll have to disagree. How old are you?
  18. He better be willing to take a big discount because otherwise the Cubs aren't going to be able to afford him. Why not?
  19. This is backward thinking. If its close it should go to Guzman. Miller should only get the nod if he is clearly better. I fear this is going to be another case of the Cubs stunting the progression of a young player for the opportunity to give a mediocre veteran with no upside a chance to improve. The upside is it ideally shows him off and gets the Cubs maximum return ASAP in a trade. I don't think anyone here wants Miller as a long term starter over Angel.
  20. Good cause and a good guy...way to go, Demp!
  21. Guzman isn't going anywhere. If he's leaps and bounds better than Miller at this point, sure, give him the nod...but if it's close, let Miller hopefully show off what he's got and improve the return for the Cubs when they trade him.
  22. DLee tweaked his groin a little And now, a dramatic recreation of that terrible moment, starring George C. Scott: http://youtube.com/watch?v=xxEX5YVtrkQ Sorry, I've got the off day cabin fever.
