  1. It's apparently very difficult to hit Rich Hill's pitches.
  2. Way to take pitches, *itches. The * stands for "d."
  3. NO YOU DON'T REMEMBER RIGHT HIS CAREER IS OVER OK, so we'll pretend that these problems are just going to get better as he gets older, as opposed to reality, where they've just gotten worse year after year. He walks more guys every season, his back problems are tied into his weight, which is going to be harder to keep down as he gets older, and as opposed to getting more mature with each season, he seems to be regressing and melting down as soon as someone scores on him or someone on the Cubs makes an defensive error. Everything indicates he thinks he's this team's ace and he deserves that kind of money. Sorry, but aces are better than that. I'd much rather capitalize on the positive aspects of his reputation and his youth now and net a juicy return once he pulls out of his funk. His emotional midgetry and inevitable physical problems are not something I want to see the Cubs saddled with if they have to give him ace years and cash.
  4. Yeah, that's not gonna happen. The Marlins wouldn't agree to that trade, Z is not worth that much when he'll be a FA at the end of this year. The Marlins would be idiots to give up Cabrera, who's under a cheap contract for at least a couple more years and brings in plenty of fans himself. Do they have him that long? I thought he was a FA after this season or the next.
  5. Why not! You might as well... Why not? Because they are likely to only have around 30-35 million to sign people next year. Z and Barrett have to be the two highest priorities, along with figuring out what to do about SS. Also, Floyd and Ward will need to be replaced (not big costs, but still). That extra 3 million that the team is paying Prior could make a difference in that. I'm not saying that they necessarily have to not sign Prior-but they simply can't pencil him in on the salary books for another season either without considering if it's worth it, and depending on the surgery Prior might not be worth it at that point. Well let me tell you that Zambrano will not be a Cub next year. It doesn't like look they are going to get a deal done by season's end... Good. Unless the Cubs can not pay him ace money, I don't want him.
  6. Hooray for not capitalizing on widespread mediocrity!
  7. I'm already there. Though at least Aramis has been entertaining, too.
  8. I believe Cabrera wants to be a 3rd Baseman though and not an outfielder... Nuts. Maybe a gigantic pile of money could change his mind, a la Soriano.
  9. I think the difference between this year's team is that last year's team really was bad enough to lose 96 games. They deserved to lose 96 games. That team, on paper, was horrid. This team really is not that bad on paper, and their luck evens out or even stops being absurdly bad, they'll be better than the 2006 Cubs. That's barely an accomplishment.
  10. Our ace is a basket case who still can't meltdown even when he's leading by 3 or more runs. That's not even close to being very good. I know everyone loves heaping on the bullpen right now, but it's not like it's a disaster. The main weakness is our sleepy offense. Some guys are eventually going to break out because of their history (Soriano in a big way, Jacque in a less big way), but Lee's lack of power is worrisome given his injury last year. I know he's got a bunch of double so far, but he hasn't had anything slapped down by the wind moreso than a guy like DeRosa. Maybe this is just the current variation of his old slow starts...I hope so. Even if it is, Zambrano needs to be traded to pump up the offense ASAP before he flakes out even more. Our offense has been just fine though lately-here are the scores from the last 8 games: 12, 3, 6, 3, 1, 6, 9, 4-avg-5.5 runs per game. The offense has been fine-not great, but just fine. The problem is that when the offense is good, the pitching fails-and when the pitching is good, the offense is terrible. It's just a matter of putting it together in the same games. A team that is 0-10 when the lead is 2 or 1 runs does not have an offense that's doing fine. That's pathetic.
  11. Trade him and let it be someone else's problem.
  12. Zambrano won't bring one can't miss prospect, let alone two I think he could. He's young enough as had enough impressive success that enough teams are going to look at him and think, "well, he projects to having these slow starts...I can fix anything else and focus on the talent!"
  13. I am so high on the trade Zambrano bandWGN it's not even funny. Damn that ARod for being this awesome! I think the big alternative in a "trade for impact now" is Cabrera. Spin Z off for a couple can't-miss prospects, package them with whoever is needed (Murton incuded and almost assured) in the Cubs' farm system (minus Pie) and go for Baby Pujols. I know we still have a crowded outfield, but at that point just trade Jones and package him with a reliever or two to get a hopefully decent prospect or two. Plug Cabrera in LF as the #3 hitter, Pie in CF, Soriano in RF.

  15. Thank God Hill and Lilly are the next pitchers and the bullpen won't have to be used as much. Thanks a lot, "Ace."
  16. Steve Stone is clearly an idiot.
  17. I think it has more to do with the Cubs' offense randomly and repeatedly deciding to forget to show up.
  18. Trade Miller. Trade Zambrano. Trade Eyre.
  19. This is so frustrating. First I wanted Miller to do decent just so the Cubs would get a great return on him in a trade. Then with Prior in limbo, I wanted him to do well so it would be easier to survive trading Zambrano for the kick in the pants this offense needs. Now he just sucks. Like this season has so far. Nuts.
  20. Even if he had hit 3 or 4 at this point, I'd still think that trading Z for a bat a la Arod or Cabrera for #3 is best and Lee being the permanent #2 hitter is best. Lee is just so damn good at getting on base, and any power he would have there would just be delicious cake.
