  1. Ron was getting furious as the Cubs were stranding more and more players...usually he just sounds miserable, but he was much more angry this time. I know he said something like "watching this team is like agony" at one point.
  2. waiting for proof He won a WS? So did Kenny Williams, technically. Would you gys all want him? If Walt was bringing the St. Louis coaching staff with him and Pujols, I'd like it. Since he wouldn't be, I can't take or leave him. He leans too much on scrapheap picking for my liking.
  3. Man, I saw up until the 7th inning when I had to go to work....talk about frustration. Lilly looks like total crap for the first 2 innings and then manages to lock it down for the next 5? What the hell, Ted? 10 strikeouts and only 1 walk is nice, but those 5 runs early sure don't help. That said, you can hardly slot this one all on him since the Cubs leave 13 freaking guys stranded on base. Frustration.
  4. What does him being on a horrible team have to do with whether or not he can still hit HR's? It doesn't effect whether he can or can't hit HR, it just means the HR's are meaningless in the scope of a team game. As a Cubs fan, you should know all about Sammy hitting 50 HR for hopelessly horrible teams Of course, but all the home run records are ultimately looked at as solo achievements, good team or not.
  5. Ward likes to walk. And not to take a cheap shot, but it looks like he put on some serious weight while on the DL.
  6. ? He has been having a rough time with 3B of late. Is this really accurate? I'm asking this to anyone...I've seen him bobble a couple of plays, but he's had at the very least twice as many stellar grabs and saves.
  7. Blech. Can we try and squeeze something out of Cedeno again?
  8. Come on, Ryan...drive it like you did last time. That's all you need to do.
  9. How come Soriano43985478043757893095347504375043985943078 isn't screaming about Pie's "honeymoon being over?" I'm shocked at his restraint.
  10. It appears that Scott beats up Willie and takes his dessert on a regular basis.
  11. WHERE WAS THIS IN THE FIRST THREE INNINGS, JERKS?!?
  12. Bowen! Ward is verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry slow.
  13. [hyperbole]The honeymoon is over for Patterson-clone Felix Pie.[/hyperbole]
  14. Why, so they can rebuild with all new crap? History seems to indicate that anyone new, on any level, accomplishes little with and for this team.
  15. Those lineups are basically the equivalent of mashing two turds against each other.
  16. We need a hitting ANYTHING. It doesn't matter where the hitting comes from, although it was much more rare and difficult to replace when it came from the catcher's position. A good hitter playing a defensive position doesn't make him less valuable, it makes him more valuable. I mean from the perspective that we need to replace Barrett with a catcher who can hit. Well, no, we only have to do that if we can't fix RF and SS, which are much easier to improve offensively.
  17. We don't need Soto or Whatsisface McPadre to be "saviors"...like it was just said, if they can be decent as catchers and not hit as bad as Blanco, they're doing their job. Barrett wasn't a "savior"...I wish this team would focus on fixing the gaping holes in SS and RF so we can stop pretending like a hitting catcher is something we desperately need.
  18. Yeah, I feel that these things can be kind of arbitrary. Is this really arbitrary? Only 5 players have hit 600 or more HR's. Only 5 players had hit more than 599 before last night. I get that we like to keep track of things by tens but it really had no signifigance to me. If he passes Mays at 660, I think that's signifigant. Gotcha. Baseball is full of "records" like this. Throughout the world we look at things by then tens as being more impressive. I still think it's pretty cool. Who knows, 660 could be in reach. Sammy hasn't been great this year, but he's a lot better than some of the scrubs you see other teams marching out there. He could probably play a couple more years, if he wants to. Very true. The DH is a godsend for him now. If he sticks to that, he has a really good shot at getting 660.
  19. What does him being on a horrible team have to do with whether or not he can still hit HR's?
