  1. Sabbathia is a Cy Young winner. And is only under contract for 3 more months. How long has it been since the Cubs won? Who cares if we lose Sabbathia if that brings them closer to a WS which it will. Yes, it will bring us closer to a World Series for one season, then hurt our chances over the next several years. I think we have a better chance of winning a World Series in the next 5 years if we don't "go for it" to that extreme. I think people aren't realizing how bad our pen could be without a good Marmol anyways. I agree. Marmol is cheap and provided he gets it back together, can be a dominant piece of our bullpen which is very uncertain for the future. Sabathia is likely a rental who improves our chances this year and this year only. Best case scenario, the draft picks help us out in 3-6 years. You guys are talking about a reliever. Yes, a potentially lights out, top shelf reliever at a low cost when the future around much of your bullpen is completely up in the air. That's the nature of bullpens. You don't hang up far more important parts of your team around it.

  3. I would in a heartbeat. Sabbathia is a Cy Young winner. Marmol is great, but not a Cy Young candidate. Are you crazy? What, you trade a very young and dominant relief pitcher just because he has a couple of bad weeks? For a guy as good as Sabathia, yes without thinking. No kidding. If a reliever can net you a critical position player or starting pitcher and your bullpen is still decent or better without him, you trade him.
  4. He was used every game the first couple months. Not surprising that he's fallen a bit. That's total B.S., but I guess facts really aren't welcome in this thread right now. Marmol was on pace for 100+ IP well into June, it's likely he was being overworked. Yeah, but if the workload he's had until now "broke" him, that's pretty pathetic. It's not like he even sniffed the danger zone some people were hemming and hawing over.
  5. I would in a heartbeat. Sabbathia is a Cy Young winner. Marmol is great, but not a Cy Young candidate. Yeah, I've brought up Marmol trades all season with my buddies. If anything, I'm pissed his recent miscues could lower his value somewhat, even though Hendry would never have the balls to trade him.
  6. Because they're usually wrong and he starts a ton of them?
  7. Absolutely brutal ownage and epic failing in this thread.
  8. That's not why he fell off.
  9. I agree. Cain was definitely on. Outside of the double steal in the first, I don't feel the Cubs played "badly" at all. They just got shut down by someone who has shown numerous times he can be an excellent pitcher while missing some critical starters.
  10. SHOOT ONE OF THOSE EFFERS DOWN THE LINE.
  11. Theriot, if you tie it up here, I'll never say anything bad about you again.
  12. I think this is Fontenot's 3rd 3-1 count...will he finally make it happen?
  13. UBER FAKE RALLY. Still, sexy triple, Lee.
  14. Are the collective stats of the Cubs' leadoff hitters not named Soriano as horrible as I think they are?
  15. It's actually nothing like that at all. If Bonds is playing and he gets caught, he should be punished. He got away with what he did, just like thousands of other players got away with breaking the rules over the years. Except for if no one signs him then he wouldn't get away with it. Why, does it somehow magically go back and erase the last few years he played and the money he made and the records he broke?

  17. Are there any realistic multi-team deals the Cubs could get in on to increase their chances? I don't know. It's not that the Brewers are better matched, they are just stacked in the minor leagues. The Cubs don't have a single prospect with the value of LaPorta and probably not one that comes close to Gamel either. If the Brewers decide to do whatever it takes, they will win this derby. Now, if the Brewers are hesitant to offer the top goods, the Cubs might outbid them. There might be other teams in this derby with more minor league resources than both Mil and the Cubs. That is true. I was just saying I didn't see the Cubs being able to outbid the Brewers. I'd think teams like the Rays, Rangers, and Braves could probably outbid the Cubs as well. A ton of teams can outbid the Cubs, but are they as desperate as us? That's pretty much my only source of hope. "Well, they're offering you a couple of A-players...so how about half a dozen B-players?"
  18. No one cared? 1,750,000 people showed up for the parade on LaSalle Street according to the Police Department making it the largest single gathering of people ever in the history of the city. That's just because it was cleverly announced as "A PARADE FOR CHICAGO'S BASEBALL TEAM!!!" and everyone simply assumed they meant the Cubs.
  19. He did it better (for one night) then A-Ram. Not since Santo has there been a 2 HR 6 RBI night by a Cubs 3rd basemen. Correct me if I am wrong. Aramis had a 2 HR 6 RBI game last year, a 2 HR 7 RBI game in 2006. HA that is what I get for listening to ESPN. They said no Cubs 3rd basemen had done it since Santo. Niceee....... They said in San Francisco.
