You'd like to see more runs with that many hits, by 5 runs per game should be plenty to win so long as the pitching doesn't [expletive] the bed. Yeah, a ton of guys were left on base but it's not like the offense was dormant. I'll happily take 5 runs a game.
agreed. i haven't seen a playoff berth for this team almost all season long. So you're saying you thought they wouldn't make the playoffs sometime in April or May? that is correct Stop lying.
Yeah, the Phillies are going to be tough no matter what but this upcoming series is definitely up for grabs given the Phillies' struggles lately and since it's at home.
Offensively, sure, just because you've got the Wrigley factor in play. I think the biggest hurdle against the Phillies is going to be the Cubs' pitching and not the offense.
ah yes the famous career OPS. When I evaluate a player, I use more than his age 23-25 OPS, sorry. i feel like weve been through this before The infinite loop cannot be broken.
We certainly need to stick with that 1-2. I'd like to think Lou was paying attention but he'll probably just focus on that they lost and think he needs to rearrange again.
And what are basing this on? Look around baseball and look at who the GM's are year after year. Hendry really isn't that bad so that a replacement would be likely to be significantly better than him or even better at all in the big picture.
I've expressly said that I don't want to keep Hendry only for that reason either. I just hope nobody is really thinking getting a Theo Epstein-type as GM is really all that likely. I would love it if that happened...sadly it seems like the thing that happens all too rarely across baseball.
It's usually a pretty good indicator of it though. Barring a ton of injuries. Here's the top 3 payrolls from last year and where they finished in their division. Yankees - 3rd place Tigers - LAST PLACE Mets - 2nd place And the Yankees and Tigers had a ton of injuries. And the Cubs haven't this year?
And again, the season is not play only or mostly against the thrifty teams in the NL Central or thrifty teams in general. Just beacause a team spends 110 million doesn't make them a lock to beat up on teams spending in, say, the 70-90 million range.
Are you confident that whoever is brought in to replace him will be better? (I'm not asking this with the idea that Hendry should be kept on just because his replacement is likely to be as bad or worse)
