Keep thinking that. Like I brought up in another thread, the new owners are unlikely to fire the GM when there's likely next to no payroll flexibility in the offseason. Why hire someone new if they can't do anything about the mess they inherit? Well, it prevents the current GM for prolonging this mess. He's already tied up a ton of money for the next couple years. Keeping him around gives him the opportunity to mess up the years beyond that. I do agree though that Hendry will most likely be back. Why would Hendry have money to spend? He'd have his hands tied just as much by the all but frozen payroll the same as his replacement would.

He throws money around like it's candy and he almost always throws it at the wrong guys. That scenario is not a matter of him getting a pass: it's redundant to fire him, still have to pay him and hire and pay someone else when the replacement likely won't have the ability to make any significant changes for next season.

So that's seriously your reasoning for Dempster's success last year? He's definitely overpaid, but he didn't have the year he did last year because of run support and "starting nearly every game at home."

I guess Ill have to agree with you on that. Its one thing to fire a guy if its going to help the organization and you have something better lined up, but its not smart to fire him as a punishment when the backup might not be any better and not have any money to work with. I'd ultimately have no problem if Hendry was fired if the Cubs don't make the playoffs (though as I've said I'm not confident at all that his replacement would be any better) but for better or for worse I don't see it happening due to the mess of the sale. Part of me hopes that I'm wrong and that the money is there but if the payroll is effectively frozen or with minimal increase for the time being it would be pretty redundant to bring in someone new since they'd have next to nothing to work with.

I don't think the new owners will fire Hendry, partly because it's a transition period and partly because there's a very good chance that the budget will be limited at least through next year and that any new GM would be severely limited by that and the current contracts. If that is indeed the case, why hire a new guy just to take the fall for someone else's mess that they can't do much of anything about? I wouldn't be surprised if Lou walks, but I'd very suprised if Hendry was fired.

Oh man, the life lectures from the guy who spazzes out and basically lives here are hysterical. IT'S FOOLPROOF." Yeah, we both spend too much time obsessing about a bad baseball team, at least Im willing to admit it and leave it at that. You do realize that not everyone who is a fan of this team doesn't act like everything is the end of the world or is actually "obsessed" with the team, right? It's this same type of thinking that leads you to brand anyone who doesn't act like the world is coming to an end and being a Cubs fan is such a horrible thing everytime they do poorly or something goes wrong as an "optimist."

I wish they could pull Lee, Theriot, Bradley and Soriano, but I guess they can really only pull Theriot and one of Bradley or Soriano.
