    Lilly picking up where he left off. Very good to see.

    I always call them the '86 Bears because of when the Super Bowl is played even though I know it's not technically correct. It's what I was doing as a kid and it just stuck ever since.

    Sandberg and Sweetness for me. One died young and the other is pretty annoying, childhood ruined for me. :cry: I loved the '86 Bears, but for some reason I was much more a fan of guys like The Fridge, Dent, Singletary and Dan Hampton over Payton. It's not like I disliked WP, but I guess to a 7-year-old he didn't seem as "large as life" as some of the other guys on that team. I definitely lost it, however, when he announced that he was sick. That one hurt.

    When I was a kid Sandberg was easily my favorite pro athlete besides Jordan. That said, it's become abundantly clear over the years that I was a fan of him as a player and that's it.

    The only thing I can assume you're talking about would be are the references to a poster who had an insane hate for Ryne Sandberg. Some of her choice lines are quoted when he's brought up. There's that and that most of us seem to think he would not be a very good manager.

    +1 Yeah, it's not like any of this has been said ad nauseum in a ton of other threads. It's more a response to the "OK, *I* know what the deal is, so here's THE thread to settle it all....even though I'm just repeating things that have been said again and again and again already."

    Ceda definitely had and has the potential, but he really seems to be struggling keeping the weight down and that's just going to get harder to do after each year.

    I wonder who the rumored trade target will be this offseason. I look forward to the inevitable 200+ page "Cubs interested in (superstar player)" thread. Out of random curiosity, is there anything you actually enjoy about the Cubs/baseball/being a Cubs fan? It seems like this is all agony for you no matter what happens.

    Yeah, that was pretty ridiculous. I'll happily welcome these Pirates since the Cubs play them, what, 8 more times this season?

    I don't think it would necessarily be too hard to trade Miles in the offseason given that he only has 1 year left. There was inexplicably interest in him from multiple teams before he was signed. He was also coming off of an ok year last year though wasn't he? He still has the ridiculous reputation of being somewhat versatile. I'm not saying the same demand would be there, but there would be interest to the point that I wouldn't be surprised if he could be dealt with the Cubs paying anything. The return would likely be negligible, but really, who cares?
