  1. I figured it was '84, but I'm not sure why they picked that over '69. I guess Santo clicking his heels is supposed to represent that and they felt they had to squeeze in '84 somehow. Seems like the artist dropped the ball by not including a black cat somewhere.
  2. It could only be dominated by a crappy player. Unless you expected the votes to be more evenly split amongst all the crappy players.
  3. This thing raises more questions than it answers. Why the Padres effigy? Yeah, I know the historical reason, but why them over any number of other teams? Is it supposed to be someone in particular?
  4. Unless there's something that spells out this piece of insanity, my money is on a terrible "when pigs fly" visual pun, especially given how corny the rest is.
  5. Oh, come on. There were plenty of Murton fans here, but few who thought he was a "star." And the Hart comment is just ridiculous. Please show me anyone here who thought he'd be more than a serviceable reliever/spot starter/5th starter at best.
  6. The devil is frozen in that "puddle" = Hell freezing over. The leprechauns and the gold and the rainbow and whatnot are saying how much luck (or how improbable it would be, hence the goats flying (AKA when pigs fly), the unicorn and the CTA being flush with cash, etc.) it would take for the Cubs to win it all. Plus Steve Goodman in heaven.
  7. I still stand by that if they're at least 5 games out of it at the deadline that it should be the motivation to start selling. 5 games+ back in a division this bad while spending this much money on a team this relatively old would just be inexcusable. The window is all but closed. Break up the band and move on.
  8. Teams don't seem as willing as they once were to "mortgage the farm" for rental players like Lee. They don't have to to make convincing him to wave his NTC a plus for the Cubs.
  9. which is the entirety of his point. I guess. I mean, it's a matter of pick your poison given that it's the final roster spot. I don't see why it's so surprising given the options.
  10. I agree, unfortunately...but I can dream.
  11. Well, they're all pretty crappy players.
  12. I voted for him. He's probably the best option, but he sucks. That was my point. I'd rather have kept an actual SS on the roster in Blanco. I'd be fine with keeping a bat that has limited defensive ability, the problem is none of these guys have a bat. Yeah, but they don't have Blanco anymore. Given the craptacular options available in the poll I don't see why it's so questionable or surprising that almost everyone picked Tracy.
  13. So why don't you vote otherwise?
  14. I really hope the Cubs trade him. Having Hendry this year is arguably a good thing if they end up trying to move what they can by the deadline if they're out of it. Hendry's been pretty good with trades, and they deflect the fan wrath over moving guys like Lilly, Aramis and (hopefully) Lee when they then fire Hendry after the season's done.
  15. What's up with the "Burly" thing?
  16. Though anyone who legitimately did would be justified, and there'd be nothing whiny about it.
  17. He doesn't.
  18. Really? I remember an AB late last year when he swung at 3 straight pitches in the dirt 2 feet outside and casually walked back to the dugout. Like he didn't give a s@!t. Injuries, frustration, whatever. I was pretty damn pissed off at that. It will all be forgotten if he gets back to hitting. When it comes to athletes, I don't hold any grudges. That's a weird thing to remember sans grudge.
  19. And I don't remember the rooftops being significantly cheaper than the cheap seats in the park "back in the day." If you went to the roofs is for the novelty of watching from the rooftops. If you just wanted to watch the game cheap you just bought cheap tickets for the game.
  20. Yeah, it's mine. Feel free to do away with it.
  21. Thanks, Jersey. Is there anything BF doesn't have?
  22. Yeah, I just figured that out. I have no idea how it happened. I deleted a new cookie created for the site today and when I came back I was back in as N&G. Very weird.
  23. And somehow I'm logged in but it says I only half half a dozen posts. This is very odd.
  24. Out of curiosity, where can I look up the attendance numbers? I'm nerdy enough that I still have most of my ticket stubs, and I wonder what the attendance was on those days.
