    Get cracking doing what? Why not just let it play out? Let the contracts that are expiring expire (ideally after you've traded those players and convinced them to waive their NTC and pray to God that Aramis opts out), let Lou walk at the end of the season and let Hendry go with just a year left on his contract. Simply waiting things out could easily be the smartest thing Ricketts could do and definitely an indicator that he's "figured stuff out."

    But at least the best manager would have Lee and Ramirez, especially Ramirez working out their problems from somewhere in the 6-8 spots with some combination of Soto, Byrd, Soriano and Kosuke in the heart of the lineup. I understand letting your stars work out of a funk, but how long can you keep a guy who looks absolutley lost at the plate and another who doesnt look much better in the heart of your order? And that's how this hypothetical manager would maybe have the team at .500. Not really awe-inspiring. The vast majority of the "blame" falls on the team.

    It's not. Unless the Cardinals seriously stumble or this team as a drastic turnaround they're not going to be in contention to ever overtake them. And forget about the WC. Well, the NL is terrible. Who's the frontrunner for the wild card? The Mets? The Giants? Certainly not the Cubs. What have we seen that indicates they're not going to just stumbled half assed across the finish line lucky to be at .500?

    Anyone who regrets moving prospects of any level for Adrian Gonzalez should get a pipe to the dome.

    I agree. I'm terrified of the midseason move where Hendry trades several top prospects for a mediocre veteran reliever. Unless Aramis and Lee have pretty significant rebounds I don't think there's much worry to worry about in that regard. They're going to be nowhere near the WC or the Cardinals.

    Yeah, those guys are total flukes and couldn't possibly have success against any other team. Only the Cobs, amirite?

    Yeah, Lou isn't the reason this team stinks. He's certainly not helping and contributing to the suck, but even the best manager would probably only have this team at .500 right now with their two most important hitters in the toilet.

    [expletive], I'll happily take some kind of sucktacular Nady/Hoff 1B platoon monster if it means they'll unload the contents of a money bin on Adrian Gonzalez' doorstep.

    Hopefully we don't have to care what he does next year when the Cubs do the smart thing and don't re-sign him, and it would be the smart thing to do even if he wasn't in the lull that he's in.

    The way this inning played out was indeed sucktacular, but 3 hits in an inning are by no means a guarantee to score. True, but 3 hits THAT inning should have plated 1 run minimum and probably 2. Agreed. Just saying.
