  1. Isn't a loss a result? Seems like splitting hairs. Siding with NG is never a good plan, really... It's always a good idea. Look, it's splitting hairs, but there's an obvious difference. If one were talking about the typical outcome it would be saying something like "another typical Cubs game." By saying "typical Cubs loss" it's clearly implying that the way they loss is typical. Again, just nitpicking, but if the former was what was meant then it was a poor choice of words.
  2. Quiet, you.
  3. "Typical?" Most of the losses this season have been the result of the offense not being able to muster anything, not the pitching imploding (and especially not the starting pitching).
  4. Jeff Stevens was seducing Andy's girlfriend in the bleachers with his eyes. Andy's grudge will never die.
  5. ...which is because of the offense or the defense or the bullpen or the starting pitching.
  6. It's baseball. These things just happen when you have a team that has been struggling to play consistently good baseball. Like I said, when the Cubs have lost to bad teams this year it's typically been due to the inconsistent offense. Tonight happened to be because of the pitching. It happens. There is no mysterious metaphysical reason.
  7. Come on. They didn't lose tonight because of ridiculous intangibles; they lost because of poor pitching. Most of the other games lost to bad teams has been due to a lack of offense.
  8. Ugh, this is [expletive] infuriating. I'm doing something else.
  9. I refuse to believe anyone here bringing that up was actually serious. He's way too expensive and his track record is way too horrible regardless of what he had done in the first half.
  10. There's nothing to explain, Len; Silva is just a shitty pitcher.
  11. Wow, he has absolutely nothing tonight. Faaaaaaaantastic.
  12. All the discussion I had heard up until recently seemed to have revolved around the idea of Castro moving to 2B. I don't know if that's changed.
  13. Baker's starting at 2nd, not Theriot. THANK ALL THE LORDS.
  14. Yeah, Edmond's dives were mostly the result of him having to save his own ass way too often in the OF. Fun to watch and impressive in their own way, sure, but ultimately there were guys who had, as you said, better range and better arms and were just smarter CFers.
  15. Well, for one, Colvin sucks, and if he's starting full time in either of the corner OF spots or at (BARF) 1B next season, then the Cubs are in serious, serious trouble, and as bad as they've been this year they're still nowhere near the point where such a desperation move would be necessary or advisable.
  16. His OBP isn't really high, but it's solid at .350 and his IsoD is .056, pretty good for a 20-year-old. A .767 OPS in his first 240 PAs at 20 years old is so much better than I could have ever expected from him. Yeah, I thought at this point he'd be struggling just to be near .700.
  17. Belgians did 9/11.
